Long ago, before 2020 turned into what it has, 2020 was supposed to be our family’s year of exciting changes and steps forward in our long term family plans. In some ways, things look really different than we planned (let’s be honest, than any of us planned for this year), but in other ways we are still moving forward with taking the next steps towards a life we have been working towards for years. We’ve had to pivot and alter some steps in the process of course, but we’re moving forward.
In fact, we’re moving quite literally. We’ll be moving into a new home (same area) at the end of July!
As if the past few months haven’t been chaotic enough on their own, we also decided the right time to put our house on the market was at the beginning of a pandemic. I’m kidding of course, we had no idea at that point in time what was coming.
Let’s just say it’s been an experience of many ups and downs. We reconsidered our plans many times, debated pulling it off the market and staying put, but in the end, we are so thrilled that an incredible family is going to move in and love the house that has given us so many wonderful memories.
So while I’ve been experiencing personal tragedy on top of a global pandemic, we also were busy keeping the house sparkling for showings, and now packing up rooms and selling things online. We will be moving at the end of the month and I am really looking forward to settling into the new place and taking a big, deep breath.
I’m excited to share this next step with you, and while I’m no home decorator, I’m excited to set up shop in our new place and will certainly give you a peek into the new digs along the way.
To new adventures…!

Exciting!! I love moving (although have no plans to move). Can’t wait to see the new house. I hope it has a porch with a lake view <3
Brittany Dixon says
You’re welcome to come help me move since you love it 😉 I could use your home organizational skills!
No lake view from the new one, but gets us a step closer to our family goals!
Kath says
Haha I totally would help if I lived close by!!

We did the same thing! We lived 35 minutes (at best) from my job/our school for 7 years, and we knew it wasn’t sustainable long term. Selling and buying in a pandemic was interesting and stressful, but we are glad we did it. We’ve been in our new house for almost two weeks, and we know it will be a great move for our family, even more so when the world isn’t so upside down. Blessings on your move and in your new home!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my goodness yes, during a pandemic has been quite interesting. I’m so glad it worked out so well for you and your family! I’m glad you’re settled in now. I look forward to that feeling 🙂

Exciting News!! I know your family is looking forward to making your new house a home!!
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you, Lynn!

Wow! That’s so exciting. I’m excited to hear more about the move, the decorating and the goals leading you to make this decision. Congratulations!
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you! I look forward to being able to share more as it unfolds 🙂
As far as decorating, I’ve ordered a single shower curtain and that’s all- haha!

Congratulations! We put our house on the market March 1st so I know how hard it is during a pandemic to move. At least you’re moving close! That should help a little. Moving to a whole new state was rough but like you said we ultimately knew it was the best for our family. So excited for you!!
Brittany Dixon says
I have a friend who moved states (and bought a house site unseen!) so I can understand a bit what craziness it must have been for you. So glad it worked out well!
Joanna says
Congratulations on your new home and continued blessings to you and your family! I’m so glad you were able to sell it during this unsure time! I can totally relate to what you said –
“we are still moving forward with taking the next steps towards a life we have been working towards for years. We’ve had to pivot and alter some steps in the process of course, but we’re moving forward.” We are currently in the moving and opening a new business phase (in Charlotte!). It’s not our first move but if you have any tips on moving, selling things, two little ones in the mix, etc for a future blog post I’d be happy to read it!
Brittany Dixon says
Ahhh excited for you! What a time to open and/or expand a business 🙂
I’m not sure I have many good tips but always love sharing our experience!
Nina says
This is so exciting, congrats! I CANNOT wait to hear more details! Like what sparked this move, how does the new house bring you closer to your family goals, how is the new house different than this one (Bigger/smaller? Closer to town/farther?)
So thrilled for you guys and that you have something fun and exciting to look forward to given everything going on in the world and in your own personal lives <3
Brittany Dixon says
Multiple factors contributed to the decision, but we’ve always known this wouldn’t be our forever home. We’ll be just up the road a bit, so still in the same area. We are downsizing and excited to be getting another step closer towards our dreams 🙂
I’m looking forward to continuing sharing more as it unfolds. Thanks for sharing in our excitement!
Brittany says
Congratulations! We too had plans to list our house in March, like long term plans. And we missed our window by a week or two because of our renovations taking longer than we hoped. Then boom, covid! But we just moved a week ago and got through it all. It ended up working out in our favor despite all the challenges. I’m glad it did for you guys too!!!
Brittany Dixon says
I’m so glad to hear it worked out for you and you’re settled in now! Definitely crazy times to make big changes 🙂

That’s so exciting!! We are doing the same thing. We bought a new house during this pandemic and move in 3 weeks. Our new house has a pool for the kids and is walking distance to the kids’ school. Congrats again!!
Brittany Dixon says
A pool! Awesome! I’ll bet the kids are so excited. I hope it goes smoothly for y’all!
Kathy says
Wow! So excited for you! Like others I am anxious to read about and see your new home. Hope things go smoothly for you!!
Brittany Dixon says
I’m looking forward to sharing more, too! We have been able to clear so much out since we are downsizing and that feels freeing!
Torrie @ To Love and To Learn says
We’re moving at the end of the month too! It’s certainly made things…interesting…to say the least 🙂 I kind of wish our move was to the same area, but we’re actually moving three hours south because that’s where the company my husband works for is moving. It’s definitely keeping us busy, which is kind of a blessing during these times since it keeps my mind off everything else!
Good luck with everything!
Brittany Dixon says
I feel the blessing of being busy right now, too 💜 I hope your move goes smoothly; good luck!!
Leah Maggs says
Congrats! Look forward to hearing more about it. Good luck with the move!

Thank you! I look forward to sharing more 🙂

So excited for all of you and can’t wait to see the new house that will soon be a home.
Go live your dreams!

Can’t wait for you to come see our new set up! <3

So thrilled for you! You certainly have been through SO much this year. I hope this new and exciting time can fill your heart with joy and happiness. Especially once you are all settled in to your new home.
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you, Donna! We are looking forward to the new energy this move is bringing us for sure. Thank you for your kindness!
Chris@TTL says
For a moment I was thinking: “whoa, all I did was ask about their general living environment!”
Haha, congrats on the move. Looks like it’ll be nearby and probably pretty similar, so, hopefully, it won’t be too much of a “lift”!
Stay healthy with the added moving stress!
Lucy says
We are moving from the city to the surrounding mountain area in a big capital in Europe. Lockdown here was harsh and being in a condo, even if big, convinced us we needed to see more trees and less brick! Now we will have a terraced house and we are thrilled to have outdoors space. We are also slightly downsizing because we decided we don’t need a ton of space, and that we are more relaxed if we are not stretched financially. There is a community pool and tennis court, so we still enjoy amenities.
Brittany Dixon says
I’m so happy for you, Lucy! I hope your new home brings you a lot of fresh air and happy memories 🙂
Sarah says
Congratulations on the move and cheers to living below your means in order to reach your goals! Your personal finance posts are my favorite. Our family goals include FIRE. I would love to read more about your familt goals, real estate investments, down sizing, etc.
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks for the input! I always want to chat more about it so maybe I’ll find a way to work in it more in the coming months. Finance is something we (David and I) discuss a lot and love learning about as well!
