Fun fact Friday? Friday randoms? Delayed Thursday thoughts? Call it whatever you like. I’m here to list off a bunch of life stuff that is completely unrelated to each other. Wahoo for the weekend!
1. A few people have asked for a Koda update and I’m happy to report that her treatments are going well! Her lymph nodes are shrinking and the doctor thinks that by next week she could be in complete remission. I’m cautiously optimistic that she will be, but again, what is most important to me is that right now she is feeling good. She is being spoiled and is a happy dog.
2. I am interviewing a woman today in hopes of getting a little help around here. I don’t really want to use the word nanny because I really am only looking for about 4-6 hours a week of helping hands, but I’m feeling stretched too thin lately. I have some guilt about this because my #1 priority is being with my girls, but I’m hoping that a couple hours of help will actually result in me being more present with them, mentally and emotionally. Hailey is at an age that can be demanding and Kaitlyn is just as sweet and busy as can be. Kaitlyn is usually up by 6:15, which means to get anything done, I’d need to get up consistently at 5:00 and still, that would only give me an hour a day since overlapping naps are becoming more rare. Over explanation? Yes, I thought so. It’s the guilt talking.
3. Have you seen these?
They are a hybrid between kale and Brussels sprouts sooooo yeah, pretty much the healthiest thing you could possibly eat, right? Also, they are delicious tossed in a little olive oil, sprinkled with kosher salt and garlic powder and roasted at 375 for about 10-15 minutes.
4. Did you know that next weekend is daylight savings? Does that seem incredibly soon to anyone else? Despite the fact I’m sure it will wreak havoc on Kaitlyn’s sleeping schedule, I’m really excited about the sign of spring. I know my northern friends are rolling their eyes hard at this, but this is why I live in the south. I can’t handle months and months of snow. A few fun days to check the box and I’m ready for sunshine.
Next Wednesday is supposed to be 71 and stormy. I’ll take it.
5. Completely random, but thoughts on pedestal tubs?
Love? Hate?
I like claw foot, but pedestal is growing on me.
And one more design question for those that are savvy like that…
showers… door-less? Or not?
That’s all I can muster for today. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I worked at a vet hospital in college and the Doc’s favorite phrase was ‘cautiously optimistic.’ Glad to hear that he’s doing well though!
I’m not ready for the time change. I’m an old curmudgeon and I like it being dark out early!
Taca @ A Side Of Dessert says
I’m excited for the time change. I feel like I get more done! Although, I think it could all be in my head 🙂 Enjoy your weekend!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
So happy to hear that Koda is doing well! And I honestly can’t believe Daylight Savings is already here. Someone at work mentioned it the other day and I had to look it up for myself because I didn’t believe her!
Kathryn F. says
I have a shower with a door and we hate it. It really collects mold and soap scum. I wish I had either a housekeeper (!!) or a curtain that I could cheaply replace everytime it got gross. I like tubs in general that are deep rather than wide. We have a great big jacuzzi tub and I rarely use it because I hate cleaning it! I’m noticing a theme in this comment….I will do a lot to avoid cleaning!

I am thinking of having my mom watch my daughter for 4 hours a week or so in order to get more work done, but I too feel the mom guilt. I mean, she’s going to be hanging with her grandma, but still, it’s time she could be with me! Ha, mom guilt never dies.
Hmm, the inn where i used to work long ago and far away had claw foot tubs. I’m really not a tub girl, I gotta tell ya. I get bored in the tub! I do love a nice tile and stone shower with two heads, though.
Great news about Koda!

I wish I lived near you! I’m in childcare and work 10/11-6– it’s be so fun to help out a few mornings!
Can you spend 2 day increments adjusting kaitlyns schedule by 15 minutes so she adjusts easier? That’s always hard (on parents)!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh man I wish you lived closer too! It’s been so hard to find someone, but I think we finally might have! And great tip about the 15 minute increments… now if only I can be that on top of it 😉
Liv @ Healthy Liv says
I haven’t seen kalettes! What an interesting idea. I have seen “grape apples” that are just grape-flavored apples. I don’t know if I could get behind that one though…
Nikki says
Hold up, what?! DST starts next week? SWEEEEETTTT!!! #HappyFriday
Heather says
I definitely have to look for those Kalettes at my Whole Foods today and hope they have them!
As for showers… doorless for me. I can’t stand shower doors (the extra glass to clean). My ideal shower would be a walk-in where I don’t need a door or curtain. :p
Kathy says
walk-in shower with NO door. The only way to go! 🙂
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
I was at Whole Foods yesterday picking up groceries and I saw the kalettes in the produce section. I *almost* bought them. Maybe another day!
I love pedestal tubs! No need to clean/dust underneath, like you have to with a clawfoot tub.
Happy Friday!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
I’m so glad to hear Koda is doing so well! And those Kalettes sound amazing! Also yes to that entire bathroom picture you posted. Absolutely gorgeous!
Samantha says
I starting hiring our babysitter to come in Tuesday’s for a few hours so that I can catch up on things around the house or get out of the house on my own. I used to judge the concept of a nanny as well, but I’ve learned that it takes a village to raise a child and part of that village may be a nanny! Especially if grandparents and other family live in another town or state. Our girls know that Lindsey comes on Tuesday and they get SO excited now before she shows up. She brings qualities to the table that I don’t have, so I know they’re better for it, and your girls will too!
Brittany Dixon says
It’s so nice to hear I’m not the only one who needs a couple hours every now and again. There are just some things you can’t bring kids too and I really need to get a dentist… 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Yay for Koda and omg Kalettes! I haven’t had them, but I’ve heard about the greatness!
Cynthia says
That pedestal tub is beautiful!
ALi says
Ok- LOVE claw foot tubs so much that the advantage of not cleaning underneath by getting a pedestal would never win me over. ever.
I would love to not have a show door/glass to clean, but i have showered in hotels and friends’ homes with no enclosure has me freezing cold in my hot shower. If you did one wth a small opening and had shower heads all over and a heated tiles floor and heat lamps on the ceiling, maybe i could go for it….see the problem here….I LIKE TO BE WARM.
I think all moms have mom guilt. Whether you work full time, half time, or are the CHO (cheif household officer), asking for help means you can’t do it alone which is an admittance in itself (who can do it ALL ALONE? no one!) BUt, in the end, it doesn’t matter. You need to do what you need to do to be a good mom, wife, woman, friend, author, …..blah blah blah…..we all have our coping strategies.
Also you are at a difficult time with ages for your kids – they both need you. and often.
jen@jpabstfitness says
So ready for Spring! I am done with this negative temp crap.
Monica says
I’m happy Koda is doing better!
I’d say go for the pedestal… you have to clean under a claw-foot. One less thing to worry about!
Elizabeth Evans says
I hope the girls start having overlapping down time soon. My kids fell into a groove where they were both napping at the same time and it was life changing. Things have recently fallen out of that routine and I’m feeling it!
I hope you find something that works for you & the kids! It’s amazing how productive I am when I work 3 days/week.
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
SO happy to hear the happy news about Koda. We just got very upsetting news about our family dog on Wednesday night. 🙁 Stupid cancer!
I’ve never seen a pedestal tub. Not sure how I’m feeling about that one in the photo. I love claw foot tubs though, definitely a timeless look. I’m also a fan of shower doors. My parents don’t have a door on their walk in shower and I think it’s too open! haha. Also their pets walk into the shower all the time.
tiff @ love, sweat, & beers says
I am so ready for warmer weather, even if spring rains come with it. Good luck finding some help. I’m considering switching E from day care to a nanny, but that’d be like 30 hrs/week, a bit different from 4!
Rachel Starr says
I truly think I found my own personal paradise when I moved to Arizona. No more winters, oodles of sunshine, an awesome wine country and NO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS! Ha!
I can tell you that doorless/open showers are the worst! Our master bath shower is open and I hate it. You never get that hot steamy shower. And tubs, pedestal, claw foot or any other iteration is a waste of space. We also have a big soaker tub in our bath and all it does is collect dust :/
Joy V. says
We have a doorless shower in our master bathroom and it’s too cold for me – I have to go shower in the hall bathroom. 🙁
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Yay! So happy to hear Koda is doing better. Hoping it’ll only continue!
Those “kalettes”!!?? Totally need to get some of those. Kale + brussels sprouts all in one veggie sounds pretty darn amazing. Where’d you find ’em? Whole Foods?
Brittany Dixon says
Yes! Got that at Whole Foods. How do they sound amazing to you while pregnant though? 😉 You are super woman! Get those veggies girl!
Danica @ It's Progression says
I’ve been a nanny for years (babysitter since I was 11 before that – yep, 11, I’ve always been great with kids and very responsible!)…I work part-time now and while it isn’t many hours a week, I love what I do for many of the same reasons as my last job that was 20-30 hours a week. I obviously enjoying taking care of the kiddos and helping around the house, but I mostly love knowing that I’m making a difference in this family’s life – I bring some ease to the mother by taking good care of her kids and relieving her of some of the household duties she does otherwise, and I feel like each time I’m there I help her feel more organized and prepared to be present with her kids when she gets back home.
My point of this is just to say that there’s absolutely no reason to feel guilty about hiring some help – you’ll be able to be present with your kids more easily and that’s nothing but great!
Brittany Dixon says
What a beautiful perspective on the matter- thank you for sharing! Of course I feel like I can provide the best of everything for my girls, but you are so right, exposure to another caring adult can be so additive, as she will certainly bring some good stuff to the table that I can’t. Thank you Danica! You are going to be an awesome mom 🙂
Jaci says
Love the pedestal! And shower doors for sure. It’s cold without! And definitely 2 shower heads.
Jessica says
Bring on the daylight savings! I need all the sunshine and day light I can get! I would sooo love that pedestal tub. Our master tub is 29 years old and is disgusting. Every time I would fill it with water, black mold(?) would come floating out of the jets. So now it just stands empty collecting dust. 🙂
Lauren @ Oh Hey I Like That! says
Do not feel badly about getting some help! You’re a wonderful mama, and if you give yourself a little time to catch up on things, you’ll feel like an even better mama! So happy to hear that Koda is doing better!!!
Josephine says
I’ve just hired a babysitter two mornings a week. I don’t have relatives nearby so my daughter has become so dependant on me she still suffers seperation anxiety at 3 years old. Even though I expose her to playgroups and classes it’s different she needs to be looked after by someone else before the shock of going to nursery school 5 mornings a week in September this year. It has been really good for her and for me. Although I miss her those two mornings I got a lot done around the house! And she is learning she is ok when Mummy isn’t there and can have fun without me!
Julia @ LordStillLovesMe says
So so so glad to hear that Koda is doing well! She has been on my list of things to pray for and I am encouraged by these positive updates! Please do not feel any guilt over hiring some extra hands. You are only human, and we all need to ask for help on occasion. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, and I commend you for being open about it on your blog!
