This weekend was awesome. It started Friday when I finally gave into my desire to take Hailey to a movie. I love the movies and since Hailey was born I’ve dreamt of mommy daughter movie dates. We somehow roped in David, too, and the trip to see Frozen was a full family affair.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Hailey LOVED it. After every preview she’d look at me and say more rmomma! She’d dance along in her seat to each song of the movie, then clap her hands when the song ended. We got the biggest kick out of watching her and will hands down be one of my favorite memories forever.
Saturday morning I took off to Lake Oconee in Georgia.
These are my best friends, Kristin, Christen, Jenny & Alexis, and we now live in 4 different states so getting together is rare. However, so are 30th birthdays, so we made it happen.
We ate a lot of food and enjoyed some beverages. Wine for them, virgin Mary’s for me.
We fancied up for dinner at the Ritz on Lake Oconee where I split both a filet and scallops with Jenny. Then, they surprised us with two desserts for Christen’s 30th. You had to roll us all out of there.
We had such a fun time together, but back at home I was ready to get some healthy food back in my system. Between pregnancy nausea, the stomach bug, Christmas and a girls weekend, my eating has been all over the map. Right, Huddle House?
Time to reign it in.
David’s parents arrive today, so I tried to plan foods that would please everyone and be on the healthier side of things. Here’s what I came up with:
Sunday– Layered Fiesta Bowls
Monday– Sweet Potato Chili with sour cream, cilantro, avocado & tortilla chips
Tuesday– Homemade Vegetable Pizza and Salad
Wednesday– Collard Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Tomatoes & Meatloaf
Thursday– Greek Style Shrimp & Scallops over Spaghetti Squash
Friday– Leftovers
Saturday– Out
Breakfasts: Peanut Butter Toast with Honey & Chia seeds, Veggie Egg Scrambles, pears
Lunches: Hummus and Veggie Sandwiches, Leftovers, Salads
It looks like it might be a hectic week, so I also decided to map out my exercise to keep me accountable.
Monday– Physique 57 Online Prenatal Trial Class
Tuesday– Cardio (2-3 mile wog) + upper body
Wednesday– Cardio (2-3 mile wog)
Thursday– Jess’s Prenatal Strength Circuit + Stationary Bike (15 minutes)
Friday or Saturday– A walk or wog.Just wiggle somehow.
I like seeing it written out. With a new book I’m finishing up, The Power of Habit, I’m feeling all jazzed up about food, exercise and organizing my house. I can’t wait to share more about it with you!
Do you have any New Year food traditions?
I always make black eyed peas, collard greens and sliced tomatoes for New Year’s Day.
Luck, money and love in 2014 baby!

Random question… Did hailey get upset over the snow witch/scary scene in frozen? We almost took Avery on a couple occasions, but eventually didn’t bc we were warned by several about a scary scene. We just want to take her so bad, but she is pretty sensitive and I didn’t want to upset her…you have made me reconsider (for the hundredth time…;) we can’t wait to take her to the movies and this seemed perfect!!

There were a couple scenes that I glanced over to see how she was doing with them and she never seemed phased. Maybe she is too young to get scared? She hasn’t had any scared feeling since, so I’m guessing it didn’t bother her much. Can’t speak for everyone, of course, but it was all a positive experience for us!

I see that you’re doing Physique 57 – I have a few of their DVDs (not prenatal) that I like, but I’ve also come to really like Barre 3 online classes! I believe that they do a 15 day free trial and they have prenatal classes available!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh, I should check them out too, thanks! I did my first (prenatal) physique57 today and it was great! It’s very different from my usual workouts, so I really felt it, which I loved!

That first picture says it all!
And I can’t wait to hear more about this book. Setting some consistent habit is something I definitely want to work more on in 2014.

How fun you got to get together with your best friends! One of my besties lives in San Diego and the other in Seattle but we make an effort to get together at least once a year. So important to do so! We used to eat black eyed peas on New Years Day and Tamales on New Years Eve. This year we are hosting a NYE party and almost did tamale but with 20+ adults and 13 kids a taco bar sounded more reasonable.
Brittany Dixon says
Heck yeah, a taco bar sounds great! That’s quite a crowd 🙂 It’s hard be so far away from friends, but it makes the time together so much fun, like you never missed a day!

What a fun weekend! What movie did you guys see? I can’t wait to take Keely to the movies but not sure how she will do. I am turning 30 on Friday and grabbing dinner and drinks with a dear friend on Thursday before Bob and I head to the 50 shades of gray musical…yes, the hubs totally going with me…haha
Brittany Dixon says
Happy early birthday!! I’m dying laughing because I didn’t know there was a 50 shades musical. You have to share how it is- haha! Oh, we went to see Frozen 🙂

I don’t have any New Years food traditions, but I like yours!

I’m also making black eyed peas for dinner on the first of the year, but I’ve never made them before! I’m looking forward to it. 🙂

I took both of my little kids to see Frozen. They are 5 and 3. My husband also tagged along. All 4 of us LOVED it! Even my 3 year old little boy sat the entire time through it.
Reigning it in is not nearly as fun as letting it all go haha! I gained 10lbs during the month of December. That is ridiculous! I love making new year’s resolutions. Mine are all diet/fitness related like most people. I also have a few parenting ones thrown in there too!

How great that Hailey loved her first movie! My younger cousins love Frozen and belt out the songs like pros 😉
I always feel more than ready for some fresh, wholesome foods after a span of indulging too.
Have an awesome week!

I’ll admit to going to see Frozen with my mom and my brother. We absolutely loved it! Such a great film. Happy that you all had just as much fun!

So excited for your 2014!!! A baby is the best blessing!
Courtney @ Don't Blink. Just Run. says
Aww, I love the movie date. That’s so sweet!
We don’t have any traditions and rarely ever know what we’re gonna do until a day or two beforehand. I literally found out our friends are coming to stay at our house tonight, last night. Nothing like last minute, right?!? LOL
I hope you have a wonderful 2014!
