Well goodness y’all, I fell off the face of the earth last week. I got hit hard by the flu and it took me out. We’re talking 103-104 temps for 3+ days and I definitely waited too long to take some acetaminophen. I’m usually a believer in letting a fever do it’s thing, but after I hadn’t eaten or seen straight in three days I embraced the beauty of modern medicine and let the meds give me a break from my fever.
Silver linings though- the kids were fantastic while I isolated in my room. They took care of the dog, played well (or at least didn’t let me know if they didn’t), kept my water full, and fed themselves. Of course, David was all hands on deck when he was home, too, but having big kids is definitely a perk when you get knocked down with sickness.
Unfortunately we ended up passing some germs around, but thankfully we are finally on the healthy path forward. I saw during my googling that flu season is hitting fast and furious this year. According to my teacher, pharmacist, and doctor friends, it’s everywhere right now. Keep washing those hands!
Even though germs are NO fun, I did appreciate the forced slow down (once I stopped being a walking zombie). We had a very low key weekend watching football, baking, taking walks, and relaxing together.
I finally feel like cooking again, mostly soups, and have some Halloween fun planned for the kids on this rainy Halloween Monday. Yesterday we carved pumpkins, embraced the cloudy and cool weather, had a fire, and watched some Halloween movies. We all watched Charlie Brown’s The Great Pumpkin and found it bizarre. Storylines from 1966 were just kind of different! It felt cozy and nostalgic though, and we were entertained.
I have no idea how trick-or-treating will go tonight with the prediction of rain, but I’m hoping it all comes together enough that we can dress up, snap some photos, visit some neighbors, and have the rain hold off for at least some of it. Fingers crossed!
Oh! And if you don’t have a good forehead thermometer, I highly recommend ordering one. I have this one and I’m so glad because the only option they had at Walgreens was $50 and you don’t want to get caught having to buy that in a pinch.
And remember, if you want to stock up on bone broth, you can use my code AHS for 20% off your entire order. I’ve been flying through my stock this week.
How have you been the past week? Staying well? Are you seeing flu near you? Do you have Halloween plans? What are you dressing up as?

I was wondering if you were alright! I’m sorry to hear you got the flu but happy it’s over for you now! Hopefully you don’t catch anything else this sickie season.
My girls are dressing as Minnie Mouse and a fairy. Weather should be pretty good here so we lucked out. Rain definitely puts a wrench in to Trick or treating. Happy Halloween!

Hey! Glad you’re feeling better. What’s the bed you have for Finley?
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks so much! It’s a bed from Costco from a year ago in the picture, but her favorite bed is a cozy cave from Snoozer! https://snoozerpetproducts.com/dog-beds-car-seats/snoozer-cozy-cave/cozy-cave-snoozer/
She loves to snuggle under the built in blanket.

Glad you’re feeling better! This weather calls for soups and chili, my favorite! We are dressing up as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel (me). My first celebrity crush lol, I have to practice my kick for tonight!

Ahh what a fun costume; love that!! Have a great night 🙂

I had to do a double take with the picture of David and Hailey drilling the pumpkin–I thought it was you at first. (Hailey not David :))

Brittany Dixon says
Oh man; any idea why it’s so fast to be here this season? I’m hoping that means it’s lighter around the holidays! Any such luck?
Sarah says
Ugh!!! The flu is no joke. I had it a few years ago and was down. For. The. Count. I am very glad you’re feeling better. It can be so hard to be sick as a mom! I’m glad the girls took it easy on you!!
Brittany Dixon says
I definitely owe them some kind of day of fun; I truly just hoped they fed themselves (and didn’t care what it was) because I could not get out of bed!
