When I was pregnant with Kaitlyn I made a list of things we’d need to get. It was a short list since we had so much already, but one thing kept bouncing on and off the list- a double stroller. I just couldn’t make up my mind. Would we use it enough to justify the cost? How long would I be able to use it for? I borrowed my friend’s BOB to give it a try, but still, back and forth I went, over and over.
So imagine my absolute elation when Bumbleride offered to send me an Indie Twin to review. Really, imagine it. I’m not afraid to admit there was squealing and jumping up and down.
I’ve had it for a month or so now because I really wanted to have a chance to use it in several settings before I told you guys what I think. So here are my thoughts…
The Indie Twin is incredibly well built. Every part of it is luxurious. The fabric, the fact that there is very little plastic, it’s sturdiness. It is built for all terrain and it shows. Still, it’s only 34 pounds, which makes in manageable to fold up and take with you.
A few of my favorite features are…
The adjustable handle bars. Great for adjusting based on who is pushing. And it comes with a cup holder! It’s the little things.
The seats. I mean, I want to crawl in there! They are comfortable with breakaway harness. The sunshades pull down incredible low which is helpful for when the sun is low (it still protects). The seats lay down all the way (unlike the BOB), so a child could lay flat for a nap. AND the footrests are individually adjustable.
Kaitlyn is buckled in, so it’s not like she will fall out, but pulling the footrest up helps keep blankets and chew toys in the seat with her.
I really like the magnetic (versus velcro) peek-a-boo window because it makes no noise to open and close (in case baby is sleeping) and it lays nice and flat when closed. I also love the mesh window versus the plastic. I’ve experienced both and I think the mesh is easier to see through and cleaner.
The basket is oversized and easily accessible which may not mean much to someone just interested in running, but for a long walk or a trip to the mall or zoo, that basket is incredibly helpful for storing all the things (and you need lots of things) for your two little passengers.
Since I mentioned running, let’s chat about that. I’ve been fortunate to try both the BOB and the Indie Twin. If you are looking for a straight up double jogging stroller for serious runs, I don’t think you can beat the BOB. It’s ability to be maneuvered and shock absorption is one of a kind. However, if you want a double stroller for short jogs, long walks on any terrain, outings with the kids, I’d go with the Indie Twin. It’s built more for comfort, plus it’s a full inch narrower than the BOB, which makes a difference when steering through stores.
The Indie Twin is incredibly easy to steer, even while holding a cup of coffee in the other hand. David and I both agree it’s easy to control than our single City Mini stroller.
To use it for running, it’s simple to lock the front wheels, though it makes it more difficult to steer.
Overall, if I could go back and decide whether I’d get a double stroller not with a new baby and a two year old, the answer is yes. We’ve used it more than I imagined. I’ve take it on runs, packed it in the car for the mall and gone on several walks.
David laughs at me because I treat that stroller like a luxury car, making sure to wipe it down and park it safely, but I really love it so much.
If you are considering a double stroller and have any specific questions, please comment! I’m happy to answer them.
If you have two children, do you own a double stroller?
Have you found it worth it?
I was sent a Bumbleride Indie Twin to review honestly and no compensation was provided. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve also gone back and forth on a double stroller but at $700 there is no way the Bumbleride would make the short list! Although it does look like a nice stroller. I’ve seen lightly used double Bobs in my area for less than half that price and I even balked at that since I already have a single.
I’m sure there will be times when I’ll want a double but they’re so cumbersome to manuever in public and honestly I’m not sure it would even fit in my small SUV. I’d rather add a new baby carrier to my collection 🙂
John J. Stathas says
Looks like you’ll be doing more running with this “double wide”!
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
My son will be 3-and-a-half by the time our second child arrives at the end of the year. My husband and I have discussed a double stroller and we’ve pretty much decided it’s not necessary… Our son is pretty independent and I know that I would never go for a run with two kids (I stopped running with one child when he was about two… too heavy for this 98 lb mama to push combined weight of stroller + child after that age).
Regardless, it’s nice to read stroller reviews…I’m sure there’s a mama or two out there who will make an educated decision based on your input here!

I considered getting a double stroller, but our family didn’t have a need for one. My toddler (Amy) is usually happy to walk, push her toy buggy, or ride her bike instead. She’s 3 and our baby is 8 months old. For walks to the park or going for a run, Amy rides her bike, I push the baby in the BOB, and my husband runs with the dog. We went to the zoo recently and when the toddler got tired of walking, we switched the baby into our Ergo and the toddler got to be pushed for the last half hour. Do you get to keep the bumbleride?? That’s a nice perk of blogging 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
I do get to keep it and am so grateful! I love the switching the baby to the ergo. K is just starting to tolerate it (the ergo) so I hope that remains an option for us in the future. H likes pushing her stroller or lawn mower for leisurely walks too- aren’t they cute?? 🙂

We knew we’d be having two kids, so when our son was born we decided to get the City Jogger Select because we loved that it could be used for one or two kids. It sometimes feels like we’re driving one of those super long Target carts, but I do love that it’s thinner which has helped out a lot at different places. Plus I love how the seats can be positioned in different ways. The biggest con, however, is that it is not a jogging stroller and really isn’t good for long walks around the block. I love the look of the Bumbleride, though! I kind of wish we’d gotten a side by side instead since our kiddos love interacting in the car so much.
Lori says
I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 6 month old. I was on the fence when it came to getting a double stroller, as well. I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy a City Select. I’m so glad I did! I absolutely LOVE it! It fits almost anywhere and it maneuvers like a dream. I love all the different seat configurations and the fact you can use the infant carrier with it. It is anazing how easy it is to switch between the many different options it offers. It is such a versatile stroller, that is so easy to use, I really wish I would have purchased this one from the start of baby #1.
Brittany Dixon says
Sounds like you made a great decision! I really loved (still do) our city mini single, so I’m sure the double is quite nice. I agree, having a double is more handy than I would have thought!
Tiffany says
We have not purchased a double stroller though are considering it. For now, we’ve been using our previous stroller (UppaBaby Vista) with the piggyback platform which has been working pretty well. We can put our youngest in the seat and oldest on the platform. If she gets tired standing, we put the youngest in the Ergo carrier and she goes in the seat. I was excited to see your recommendation, but shocked when I saw the price of this stroller – $700! Holy moly!
Marjorie @APinchOfHealthy says
That looks super nice! I would have squealed too. 🙂
Jen says
Wow, yea that is a nice stroller, but at that price there is no way. I was hoping to find one around $200. Guess I will have to keep searching.
Brittany Dixon says
Try looking on craigslist! Though for a double jogger, the cheapest I’ve seen is a used BOB for $350. They are pricey for sure, but they hold value really well too, so maybe you could always sell it down the line for not much of a loss? Good luck!!
kimberly says
I have this exact stroller and it is worth every single cent of the $700 price tag – I love it and use it usually twice a day! A year later and it still pushes like it is brand new.
Brittany Dixon says
I’m so glad you love it! I seriously treat it like gold. I love it so much!
Melody says
I have it too!! Though in canada I paid almost $1000 with tax… Soooo I’m jealous of the $700 price tag. Regardless it’s worth every penny. I loove it and can’t wait to start jogging with it.
Laura @FitMamaLove says
That’s so awesome that they sent that to you! We have had our single Indie for 5 years and it’s been great. I love seeing all the new features that you have and now I want a new one for the upgrades! And the new colors. I LOVE the new colors! I run with mine, but never lock the wheels. I like it better the regular way.
Michelle G. says
Shoot! I was hoping there would be a giveaway at the end of this! That looks like a really nice stroller!
We also have a city mini (single) and have found that the front wheel has an annoying tendency to lock itself when going over bumps. It is so frustrating. I refuse to buy another stroller, though, because our 3 year-old’s current favorite stroller to ride in is a super cheap umbrella stroller from Target.
Curious as to which baby carriers you prefer and if you ever venture out with the single stroller plus baby carrier.
Brittany Dixon says
I have the Bjorn, the Ergo and a solly wrap. Personally I prefer the Ergo because it’s the easiest (most supportive) to wear for long periods of time. However, Kaitlyn is just beginning to tolerate it, so I haven’t gotten much use out of it yet. She prefers to face out in the bjorn, but that’s not the best for their hips, so I try to limit its use.
I originally thought I’d use the carrier and the single stroller, but haven’t done much of that. I really use the stroller if I’m trying to get in some exercise (which is hard to do with a baby strapped on), so if we are just going for a leisurely walk, usually Hailey will walk or push a baby doll stroller herself 🙂
Tanya says
I keep going back and forth about double strollers…front and back or side by side?
Brittany Dixon says
I can’t speak for the front to back because I’ve never gotten to try one, but I will say Hailey loves riding next to Kaitlyn. She loves peeking over and saying hi to her. However, I imagine the front and back may be easier to wind through aisles. Probably depends on what you are going to use it for!
Eileen says
This stroller looks awesome. One concern is the width though. How wide would you say it is? Can it fit easily on a sidewalk or does it take up the whole thing? Im thinking a tandem stroller would be better for us, but it’s tough to find a jogging stroller thats tandem.
Brittany Dixon says
It’s 29 inches wide- an inch smaller than the BOB, but still wide. I take it on the sidewalk and it fits fine, but it does take up the whole sidewalk for sure. I don’t think I’ve seen a tandem jogger either. Maybe go to a store where you can try both of them out? Getting yours hands on it helps so much!
Bumbleride says
Great review Brittany! Thank you for sharing Bumbleride with your readers! We look forward to hearing about all your #bumblerideadeventures with Indie Twin. Have a great weekend!
Tiff says
Thanks so much for this! So there is life outside of BOB?!? This might be perfect for my family…. next year. Ha
Brittany Dixon says
Next year?? Do you have news to share?! 🙂
Anna v says
Hi! I was just wondering if it fits through doorways if you take it shopping?
Thanks!
Melody says
I have this stroller and the main reason I bought it was because it does fit through a standard doorway!! Though today I had to take the cup holder off to fit through a door but that was a first.
Brittany Dixon says
Hi Anna! I agree with Melody it’s awesome because I was able to fit it through most doorways! Super handy.
Colette says
We bit the bullet and bought a double too, the Out n About Nipper double, not sure if you have those in the US, but it’s awesome! I took it out for the first time yesterday with my 2.5 yr old and 1month old. It’s so easy to push, light as a feather, even more so than my single bugaboo with one child in it! Love it. And it’s the most vibrant purple color, fab. I’m hoping it encourages me to get out walking more, even during our long Irish winter.
On a side note, you look amazing Brittany, how do you manage to eat so healthily with a toddler and a baby?! I’m struggling to find time to eat at all, nevermind eat healthily.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh Colette (love your name BTW), thanks for the kind words! Healthy food is so important to me because I FEEL so much better when I eat well so I really do everything in my power to prioritize healthy eating and it does take some work. I swear by meal planning and Sunday food prep!
Emily says
are you going to buy one?!
Brittany Dixon says
I was able to keep the one I reviewed and feel incredibly grateful! I really love it.
Emily says
Hooray!! It looks amazing. We have a MacLaren double, and while it’s not suitable for jogging, I love how light and transportable it is!
Lauren Brennan says
I have the Baby Jogger City Select double stroller, and I love it!!! The biggest reason is because it is a tandem stroller instead of side-by-side, making it much easier to maneuver through doors and stores and such. I also love that you can do different configurations with the seats, and it’s pretty light for a double. So happy we went with this stroller, but if I was more of a runner, the Bumble Ride would be high on my list!
Lauren says
Wow, that looks like a fabulous stroller! I use my double every single day and believe they are worth every penny. I had three kids in three years (now 4, 2.5 and 15 months) and I just couldn’t survive without one. We have the Baby Jogger Summit XC double (I live in Australia but got mine shipped from the US) and we go for long walks with our dog daily. I think a double is a must if you’re an active family.
{Erica}EverythingMomandBaby says
I do have a double stroller. I have 2! A Stroll Air and Bugaboo Donkey. However I want to go running and would like to a stroller designed for running so this sounds great.
I have a twins so I need a double when I go running.
Jess says
Great review! One question for you: Does your oldest, Hailey, ever resist the stroller? We are due with baby #2 in December, which will make the siblings 27 months apart. I keep going back and forth on a double stroller. I would really like to have one, BUT my oldest has protested the stroller since about 18 months. As in, HATES being in a stroller and will most often not get in one…
Brittany Dixon says
If your oldest absolutely hates it, then I don’t think a double would change that. However, Hailey hadn’t been in a stroller in months, but does like riding in this one next to her baby sister. I also will bring snacks or books sometimes if it’s a longer ride too. I’d suggest trying out a friend’s double (if you can) before buying one and seeing how your oldest takes to it. Good luck!
Jess says
Thanks, Brittany! I’m hoping that big sis will like sitting/riding next to baby sis in the stroller, but we shall have to wait and see. Great idea on borrowing one from a friend first!
Andrea says
Hello! I’m due with my second baby so my kiddos will be 18 months apart. I’m thinking a double stroller is a necessity. The bumbleride looks great. Do you know how it compares to the bob as far as accommodating tall kids?
Kacey says
Hi there! Thinking of getting this for my 2.5 year old and 5 month old. My 2.5 year old is about 38″ tall. Will it last a while height wise?
Brittany Dixon says
I just pulled out my tape measure to get a visual and 38″ is tall! I think your 2 1/2 year old would be fine in it now, but depends on how fast s/he grows. I’d highly recommend trying one out at a store (like Buy Buy Baby) first just because it’s such an investment. It’s an incredible stroller (we still are loving it!), but I would hate for you to invest in it and not be able to use it for a long enough time.
Susannah says
Loved reading your review! I am currently stuck trying to figure out which double to get! I waited until after baby #2 was born thinking we wouldn’t need one but now I know we do! I have eliminated the BOB since I really won’t be running with it and I’m down to the Indie and a baby jogger summit XC. Any experience with that one? I can’t decide which would be better. The indie is narrower which is great but the fold looks more complicated. Do you find it relatively easy to fold (for going to the zoo, mall, etc). Also seems like the Indie might have a better push. How does it feel when the weight distribution is so uneven ( 2 year old vs 1 month old)? Thanks so much for any input!
Brittany Dixon says
Hi Susannah,
I only have experience with the Indie, but I LOVE it. It fits through all doorways when I’m out which is really important. My girls (now 3.5 and 9 months) obviously weigh very different amounts and you can’t tell at all while pushing. It’s not the easiest thing to fold up and is rather bulky, but I think that just comes with the territory. It handles rough terrain well and is a smooth, comfy ride for all, plus a big basket underneath for storage. I don’t think it’s the easiest to run with, but if you aren’t using it for long runs then I highly recommend it!
Laura says
I have a 2 month old and a 21 month old. I’m so getting this. Def need a double with that close in age and I love to walk.
Shira says
I came across your blog today because I’m researching double strollers. I’ve narrowed it down to the Indie twin and the City Mini Double GT. My biggest concern with the Indie is the fold, which you didn’t address. Is it easy to fold? If I’m running errands with my kids, I might have to fold and unfold the stroller (and fit it in my car!) several times a day. What do you think?
Brittany Dixon says
Hi Shira! It is not the easiest stroller to fold. Actually, then mechanics of it are very simple- pull on two pulls while you fold it in half, but the implementation takes me a minute. I have not compared it to other doubles, so it may just be a double stroller thing? It is heavy to lift into the car while folded, but it has never stopped me from taking it anywhere because I just love everything else so much. Good luck in your decision!
Pierre says
We are expecting twins. We made our short list of requirements for a double stroller: side-by-side, as the kids get older, we feel that they will have more wiggle room with this type. Actual tires or really big wheels for go anywhere capability, especially in our canadian climate, where we get snow in the winter. Lastly, we wanted to be able to click the infant seats right into the stroller without having to install adapters each time the stroller is taken out of the car and unfolded. Seems this last requirement is much harder to find! The bugaboo donkey does it, but, hello!? That price, and it doesn’t fold very compactly either.
The city select is a good one, but it is not side by side.
The bumbleride indie twin will have to be it. It seems to have an excellent construction and reputation. We will have to deal with the inconvenience of inserting and removing the adapters each time we unfold it from the car.
Any other ideas?
Sadie says
If I am going to use the bumbleride indie twin for light jogging, are there any downsides/cons?
I have a single BOB that I am about to sell so I can purchase the bumbleride indie twin. My Bob has been great for jogging, and I want to know what I might have to give up for the bumbleride?
Brittany Dixon says
I use it for mostly walking and light jogging, so if you do the same I think you’d be fine! I think it is harder to steer with the wheels locked than the BOB which may be frustrating if you’re running long distances.
Claire says
Hi Brittany!
We are thinking of buying the bumble ride for our newborn and 21 month old. We’ve never had air-filled tires before though, and I’m wondering how often you’ve had to inflate them and if you’ve had any flats or other issues?
Thanks!!
Claire
Brittany Dixon says
Hey Claire! Funny you ask because I just noticed the other day that they were a little flat and need to be pumped up. However, it’s the first time that I’ve needed to do so and I’ve had it almost 1 year. I hope that helps!
Claire says
Thanks–that helps! I’m so glad it’s not that frequent. We just ordered one and I can’t wait until it gets here! Thanks for getting back to me 🙂
jamie says
I have the indie twin and love it!! I have a newborn and a 4 year old. I use it for everything, even if the 4 year old doesn’t want to ride, I love being able to have that option for her, especially at DisneyLand, SeaWorld etc. I use it for jogging and walks to the park! This is the best double by far!
Julia Lynne says
Thanks for the review! Trying to decide between BOB and Indie Twin. I know you said Indie Twin is not ideal for intense runs. Do you use it for jogging often? I am looking for a double that is good for recreational jogging (usually not more than 4 miles), stores, zoo etc. Just don’t want to end up with a stroller that’s so hard to jog with that I end up not working out at all. Would this fit that you think?? Thank you!!!
Brittany Dixon says
For me, it never worked very well for long jogs. Love it (still) for errands, long walks, zoos, etc, but as for running, I would stick with the BOB. Maybe look for a friend with one you can test drive? That always really helped me!
Katrina says
I have been looking for a double stroller that is both easy to maneuver around stores as well as able to be taken on light jogs. I just can not seem to decide. The bob, city jogger and summit x3 seem great for just jogging but getting around stores seems challenging. I came across the bumblie ride indie twin and now I’m curious. All three of these strollers seem to be around the same price. The only problem I’m having with the indie is the fact that I will have to purchase a new car seat. Do you know of anywhere (web sites) that sell this stroller discounted, or the car seat that goes with it?
Megan says
Thank you so much for your review. It was literally EXACTLY what I was looking for with regards to the Indie Twin. My babies are 2 years and 5 months and I would LOVE a double I can run with! I have hesitated buying one up until now, as I have been baby wearing the little one – but we are definitely getting ready to make the leap!
Thanks for your review 😊
Brittany Dixon says
I’m so glad it was helpful!! 🙂
Margo says
What age were your girls when you stopped using this?
Brittany Dixon says
We used it fairly regularly until my oldest was about 5/6. We really loved it!
Dana says
Thanks so much for your great review! I tried the Bumbleride Indie Twin in a store today and really liked it. I’m not a runner but am debating between this stroller and the double Bob. Since you’ve tried both, which would you recommend? I’m just worried about the width of the Bob. I have a single Bob and like it but this one seems nicer. The sidewalks in my area are cracked and quite beaten up and they also don’t often slope down to the road. Is it as easy to pop up onto its back wheels as the Bob? I have a tall 2.5 year old and a 2 month old. The 2.5 year old loves being in a stroller. She liked this one when we tried it in store and right touched the empty seat and said, “Brother go here.” I live in Canada and both are close to $1000 so I want to be sure to pick the right one. Thank you!
