I’ve heard about this phenomenon, but it’s hitting me like a ton of bricks lately. I feel like my head is in a dense fog and it’s taking me so much more time than usual to complete simple tasks. Sure my belly is pulling and a bit achy, my legs get a little tired and I’m sleepy quite often, but it’s my brain that is slowing me down! I feel like I have a major case of ADD and it’s driving me crazy…
unless people want to talk about the baby. Then I can mentally keep up. Luckily mom and dad were in town this past weekend and didn’t mind all my baby blabber!
Next time I see them, I’ll be introducing them to their first grandchild… unreal!!
We also helped throw an engagement fiesta this weekend for some good friends that are getting married in October! On the way to the party, Baby D stayed curled up on my right side. Isn’t it funny looking?!
The fiesta was a blast! I let Hubbs take over appetizer duty (does that tell you how out of it I’ve been or what?!), but luckily his cheese and sausage platter was a hit.
I promise not to be all baby talk from here on out, but I just had to be honest with you about what a struggle it’s becoming to stay focused. I’m fighting through it though, and am even excited that today begins our new monthly budget! It took me an embarrassingly long time to make our grocery list yesterday.
First I took inventory of what we had in the freezer, pantry and in my CSA…
pretty well stocked up on bulk grains!
…but my beans are dwindling a bit.
Then I planned out our dinners for the week, with lunch and breakfast options, too. And used that info to scribble down what I needed to pick up at the store.
Am I the only one who abbreviates cheese to ‘chz’ on a regular basis?
It’s definitely shorter than my usual list and I’m excited to see how the new budget works out in lowering our monthly expenses. Like I’ve said before, I’m a huge nerd and get really motivated when I get to start a new month with a freshly outlined budget. I’ll keep you posted on the actual amount of grocery money spent during the month.
I’ll slow my ramblings now, but first I must send a special birthday shout out to my Grandma Betty! 91 years old and still as beautiful and spunky as ever.
Love you Grandma Betty!
And as a final note, I want to ask your help.
I’d really love to hear some blog topics that interest you guys. I’m compiling a list of topics I’ve been excited to write about and recipes I’ve been dying to try, so that I’ll have a couple blogs saved up for when Baby D arrives. I’d really love to hear your feedback on topics that interest you, so let me know!
Recipes? How-to Guides? Metabolism?
Leave a comment and let me know so I don’t continue to ramble like I did today! 🙂
Lisa @ I'm an Okie says
Your grandmother looks FANTASTIC for 91!
Bethany @ One Girl's Taste On Life says
I’m pregnant too, so all your baby ramblings are a-ok with me! I know what you mean about others not wanting to talk about baby stuff as much as you do, which is probably why I like reading blogs about them! I can get my baby fix without having to annoy my friends and family. lol
I have a baby AND food related blog topic for you: are you planning on making your own baby food? What websites/books/sources have you used to come up with ideas for the types of baby food you’re looking to try? Will you get a specialized machine (i.e. the Beaba or Bullet Baby) for making baby food or stick with your own appliances?
Brittany says
Aw, thanks for your comment! It’s nice to hear I’m not annoying everyone with baby ramblings 🙂 And great topic suggestions- I’ll definitely post in depth on these in the future because I have some great books and accessories that I plan on using to make homemade baby food!
Morgan @ Some Kind of Sunshine says
I like when people ramble because I find hearing about other people’s lives is fascinating. But, I would like to see more recipes, maybe more on metabolism (often a confusing topic).
Thanks for sharing so much about Baby D. I feel like we are all anticipating his/her arrival just like you are!

Oh my goodness, your grandmother is beautiful, just like your growing belly.
Everything I see your pantry, my heart aches to do mine again. I need some of those nesting hormones, stat.
I love when you talk about calorie counting and metabolism in relation to your business. Its fascinates me!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Happy Birthday to your Grandma Betty!
I love the belly shot in the car — how funny to see it that way!
Recipes are always good, as are more organization posts!
Hannah says
91 years old?! Is that a typo??! Wow! What’s her secret?
Autumn @ Good Eats Girl says
Baby ramblings are okay in my world! 🙂 I love talking about kids! They are such fun!
Love the belly in the car…I remember when the girls would do that when I was pregnant! Too funny!
RhodeyGirl says
I love/hate the lumpy belly phenomenon. No one warns you of that, right? I had no idea until I experienced it myself. I took a VERY similar picture of my belly yesterday in the car. He loves the right side!
Brittany says
Most pregnant ladies I’ve talked to say their baby’s prefer the right side, too- so funny! I get a kick out of the lopsided belly. it’s so goofy looking 🙂
Roz says
Holy smokes, you’ve got some great genes in your family – your Grandma does NOT look 91. (not that know what 91 “looks like” but it’s not that! 🙂 ) I like your organization posts and recipes. Have a great week Brittany!!!
Jen says
That is too cool that baby curled up on one side of your belly!
I already have baby brain. It is definitely real and scary! And of course I love all of you’re pregnancy ramblings but I’m biased 🙂
You’re still looking great!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Girl, you can ramble any time you want.
And I’m interested in pretty much everything…even the baby stuff, which I can’t relate to exactly, but I enjoy hearing about. 🙂
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
Ha! I thought the brain fussiness would go away … I feel like it’s gotten worse but that may be me … the other day I tried putting cereal in the spice cabinet and couldn’t find my phone and looking for it for seriously 10 minutes and then realized I was talking on it to my mom!! I would love to hear about metabolism or maybe finding out foods that you think are good for you but aren’t … those always interest me. Good Luck!

I think I have seen pictures of your grandmother on the blog before.. she is so crazy young looking!!! She honestly could probably pass for 30 years less than what she is.
Brittany says
I’ll pass that along to her- it will make her day more than any present ever could 🙂

Brittney,
I’m 56 yrs. old and stumbled across your blog and just love your ramblings! I workout 5 X’s per week: cardio, lift weights (2 X’s), and yoga (2 X’s). I eat healthy most of the time (like 85 %). My grandmother lived to be 95 and she went to exercise class 2 X’s per week until 1 month before she died. I hope to surpass her! I’m very interested in the slowing down of my metabolism and hormones. I’ve recently purchased “The UltraMetabolism Cookbook” by Mark Hyman, M.D. and have been preparing several of his recipes (all very tasty). I’m hoping to vamp up this aging metabolism! Any tips and pointers would be welcome. Happy Birthday to your beautiful grandmother and congrats on the baby!
Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde says
How awesome is your grandma looking? And i love the matching striped tops in the first photos 🙂
I have to say i love your baby ramblings and your cookie posts are pretty awesome!
I want those jars with the little chalkboards on them, super cute 🙂
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
LOVE that you can totally see baby on one side. and i also love your jars 🙂
ashley@piesandpushups says
I would love to see more posts on Koda bug! 🙂 And I think some posts on metabolism would be really interesting too – maybe foods that help speed up your metabolism? Or myths/facts about keeping your metabolism up? I love the baby ramblings though! I think it is interesting to hear firsthand what you go through each day being pregnant.
Brittany says
If I could, I’d post all my posts about K-dizzle… even if she does make the loudest snoring noises ever as she lays here cuddled up against me <3 🙂
blackhuff says
Your shopping list look a lot like mine – cool 🙂
I still LOVE those cool labels you use on the jars. So cool.
Glad you enjoyed the fiesta.
The word “nana” you all use in America, is such a sweet word for grandmother. I wish our language also had such an awesome word for grandmothers.
Katie @ Legally Fit says
I love the photo of your lopsided belly! Mine looks like that sometimes too, though not as pronounced- give me a few weeks 😉 My baby brain is out of control. I actually love posts like this! Your grandmother is adorable and looks amazing!
Hmm, well I may be biased but I’m interested in baby posts. What are your thoughts on the controversial topics (circumcision, co-sleeping, vaccinations, etc)?
Chelsie says
Your grandma looks amazing!
I would love to hear more ways to boost metabolism and I can never get enough recipes!
Sarah says
I don’t care HOW much you talk about baby stuff- but you probably already knew that:-).
I really enjoy your grocery budget posts- I can always stand to pare things down around here, so they’re motivating and inspiring to read.
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
You seriously look incredible. I cannot believe that you’re almost ready to pop! It is so exciting! 🙂
