I wouldn’t consider Friday’s pizza and couch night a date, though it certainly is something I look forward to more than most things in life. Like a giant exhale at the end of a busy week and grocery shopping. I’m totally digging Friday grocery shopping now by the way.
David was up and out to work early on Saturday, making it feel like any other day of the week, so we switched things up with a Target run before our afternoon egg hunt extravaganza!
Neither girl screamed in fear of the Easter Bunny, so I’m thinking we may have a shot with Santa in 2015!
The chilly day turned out really nice in the sunshine, so we spent most of the afternoon hanging out in the grass with some of our favorite friends.
On a whim, David and I ended up going out Saturday night to Smoke, a new restaurant in Birkdale.
It must be a new hot spot, because we had over an hour wait. Luckily they have some skilled bartenders and I thoroughly enjoyed my Bourbon Smash. Ok, Ok, my TWO Bourbon Smashes.
It’s not a typical order for me, but I really ended up loving the combination of Maker’s Mark, Grand Marnier, cherry syrup, fresh fruit and bitters.
Though my pictures were not, the food was on point. We split the combo plate with creamed spinach and doctored up mac ‘n cheese, but the real stars were the meats, as it should be at a smokehouse. The ribs fell right off the bone and were absolutely delicious!
Sunday I made a batch of Emily’s Sunbutter Bites.
I had to use one less date than called for, since Hailey has quick little hands. These are tasty and I love them, especially for Kaitlyn! I am always focused on getting healthy fats into her and she gobbled up the combination of sunbutter, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and coconut oil, among other things.
Sunday afternoon David hung out with Kaitlyn, while I took Hailey on a date to the movies. I love the movies, but David does not, so it’s great having a fellow movie lover to go with me now.
We saw Home. As for the movie itself, it’s no Frozen, but cute and entertaining enough I suppose for a three year old. Plus, look in the bottom right corner, the theater sells WINE now. WINE! So yes, I had a glass at 4pm on a Sunday.
Another fun weekend in the books; feeling grateful for the sunshine and my family as we head into this next week.
Movies- do you love going or prefer to wait for the DVD?
I love the movies- but we usually wait for DVD.
Restaurants- what is the max time you will wait for a table?
An hour is a stretch for me, but a good cocktail helps!

Sounds like a perfect weekend. We do frozen pizza, wine and couch every single Friday and I love it.

I can’t wait for movie dates with my son! Although I don’t foresee him being able to sit still for a looooong time. He is a little live wire.
I love good BBQ! Smoke looks a little more upscale, which is a nice twist on BBQ. We usually won’t wait for more than 30 minutes or so.
Looks like it was a fun weekend!

Looks like a great weekend with lots of sunshine and smiles. Fun to have one on one’s with each child.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend. Love the Easter bunny pictures and the picture of Hailey & Grace-such good friends!

30 minutes is probably my max wait time if I’m hungry! But if the restaurant’s at the mall and I can go shop around while I wait…that’s a game changer 🙂

My boyfriend and I usually wait to watch movies on DVD (unless it’s suppose to be a GREAT one) but I personally love going to the movies with girlfriends! It’s my excuse to buy some crappy candy and eat all the popcorn!
Brynn says
i love going to the movies! My husband likes to wait for the DVD, so I usually make it a girls night with a little cocktail, too!

Love the pic of H and her friend – so sweet!
And we hardly ever go to the theater now – it’s so expensive! Truth be told, I can’t even remember the last movie we saw in the theaters!

I loathe movie theaters! It has to be a movie I REALLY REALLY want to see for me to brave the crowded theaters and cramming my long legs into those chairs 🙂

Wine at the movies is probably the best news ever! I do enjoy going to the movies, but the oddball that I am hated going during the winter when we lived in Canada. Nothing appealing about getting all cozy in a movie theater to have to leave it and head home in the cold. But now that I live in Florida, I game for it whenever :). I was actually just thinking about the movies and wanting to take Nia again! (But saying that Home is no Frozen might be a tender subject for me seeing as Nia makes me watch Frozen clips every.single.day – I’m ready for a break! haha)
I have to be careful for Nia’s quick hands in the kitchen too. And I can’t even let her know when I have dates out. She eats them like it’s the last food on earth. I definitely need to check out those balls – they should awesome (although what I just said does not sound awesome or very classy lol).

I LOVE going to the movies, but now we typically wait to rent… unless it’s something we have to see on the big screen (like all of the superhero movies). I’m really getting exited about taking our son to his first movie in the theater, though. He’s going to be 3, so we think he’s finally ready for a special date with Mommy and Daddy while his little sister gets a babysitter.
As for food… I have a hard time waiting a really long time for a table. I might do an hour for the right restaurant, though as long as there’s a place at the bar, otherwise forget it – 30 minutes is my max. 😉
Elizabeth Evans says
Now that I have kids, I don’t mind waiting on a table at a restaurant because this means I get to have drinks at the bar! Most of the time, I prefer having drinks at the bar : )
Before I had kids waiting on a table at a restaurant was almost a deal breaker. I’ve become much more patient : )

Those bourbon smashes sound AWESOME. I love Grand Marnier. Of course, I’m sticking to sipping “splashes” of wine these days because I’m too afraid to drink too much with nursing and I’ve been off-and-on with the pump ever since we discovered Baby O is no longer interested in drinking from a bottle. So it’s exclusive nursing for me.
I used to be up for waiting for restaurants but these days, 30 minutes is probably my max. I get too antsy. And movies? With two kids these days, it’s definitely wait for the DVD.

Oh my goodness, Hailey looks so grown up all of a sudden!!! So cute =)
I hate going to theaters to see movies, I feel like it’s SO expensive and I’d rather wait until I can watch it from the comfort of my own couch. But now that I’m living in Italy, I guess I don’t really have a choice but to wait until it comes out on DVD or iTunes (unless we want to hop a train to Rome, which seems like even more hassle than going to the theater).
sherri @ Adventuresofloveandmarriage says
We usually wait for DVD simply because Ryan is not at the age to sit through a movie yet and the cost of babysitters is a bit ridic, so we Netflix and make it a home movie date in sweatpants!
And, because of having a 15-mo toddler, our max time is 20-30 min. After that, it is a full on meltdown for Ryan and me passed out on the floor. Ha!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
As a pescetarian, I’m not usually super into barbecue restaurants… but I have to say that the mac & cheese looks killer!

I used to LOVE going to the movies before we had a baby! That was one of the main dates the husband and I used to go on. Someday we’ll go again, I suppose.
I am seeing Emily’s sun butter bites popping up everywhere, so I’m thisclose to actually getting my act together to make them.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
That drink sounds GREAT! And how cute are your girls with the Easter bunny!!

I used to despise whiskey until about a year ago and now I love it! Lately we’ve been making Root Beer Old Fashioned’s at home after having one at a funky restaurant and they are so good! I drank three of them last weekend and felt fine the next day 🙂 We took our son to see Home Sunday too! I’m not a huge movie fan but we have a new theater that also serves wine, beer, cocktails, food etc. right to your seat! It’s pretty awesome and I might have had a glass of prosecco. Or two 🙂
Laura @FitMamaLove says
I wait 20 min max unless it’s someplace crazy amazing that I want to try. Impressed you handled two drinks, mama! I love taking both kiddos to movies these days–it’s so fun now that they’re both old enough. We just watched Cinderella, but I definitely want to see Home too!

I’ve been reading for a while, and I have to ask… What does poor David do for a living that he’s always working so many nights and weekends? I hope he loves his career! It seems to work well for your family, but I can’t help but feel bad for him sometimes when I’m reading.
Brittany Dixon says
Hey Kirsten! David is in medical sales so his schedule is largely dictated by the scheduling of surgeries at several hospitals. It does work well for our family at the moment as I’ve become used to the schedule! Thus why weekend family time is so important to me 😉

Gotta love a movie theater that sells wine!!
