This year on my birthday, I really wanted to focus on the present. No, not that present
…though I ended up being pretty darn excited about that, too. Instead I wanted to focus on being present in this life I am so grateful to live.
The day started out with the sweet surprise that David didn’t have to go right into work, so we grabbed breakfast out as a family.
I didn’t check my phone. Instead I enjoyed the warm sips of my frothy cappuccino and being with my little family.
When I got birthday phone calls from friends and family, I didn’t chat while trying to do laundry. Instead I sat on the back porch, feet kicked up and focused on the conversation. It was a nice change.
Hailey and I fit in a long walk. It was a gorgeous day I took note of the beautiful scenery we walked by, took deep breaths of fresh air and made a point to say ‘thank you’ for this moment.
Yes, I’m the goof you can actually see stop, close her eyes and smile. So what if I live my life like I’m in a cheesy romcom.
During Hailey’s yogurt snack, I again left my phone alone (excepppppppt when snapping the picture). I really noticed yesterday how the phone can distract me from life. I need to be more aware of that.
However, I don’t mind the phone distracting me from life during this.
I’m so close to being done with you, Mr. Pump.
In the evening, David, Hailey and I headed out for an early dinner- my choice! Indian food it was.
Bottle of pinot noir on the side.
We enjoyed dining outside in the beautiful weather. The two bees David had to smash with a menu didn’t enjoy it as much.
Back at home, we took a family wagon walk, put Hailey to bed, then… I got spoiled. Rotten. It was fantastic.
First, I was spoiled by such kind words from friends and family. I really love cards. They can be a pain to remember to get from the store and to mail around the right time, but to me they show that hey, I was thinking about you. Isn’t that all we really want? To be thought of?
Then, it was present time. When David pulled out that massive blue bag, I had no clue what was inside. All I knew was that he was giddy for me to open it. Scary. Well, I never would have guessed what was inside…
It’s a robotic vacuum!!! It’s called a Neato. Clever, huh? Haha. Think the Roomba on steroids. We’ve named him Mr. Belvedere and I plan on buying him a stick-on mustache. This fancy schmancy vacuum has sensors that map out a room and he can cover the whole floor without missing a spot. Best of all?
He freaking works!!
Even on pet hair.
We had the best time watching him vacuum the house. I’m terrible at keeping our floors clean with Koda’s hair and all, and with Hailey crawling around I always feel so guilty. It’s amazing that David thought of this himself and researched it thoroughly to find such an amazing gift!
…but that wasn’t all.
Have you guys seen these new Sony hybrid cameras?? All the quality of a DSLR, but the size (almost) of a point and shoot?!! They are amazing!!! I have so much to learn on it, but get ready for my pictures to be FREAKING incredible! On that note… I’m off to play with my new toy, and give my sweet husband an extra kiss!
Thank you all for your birthday wishes and have a fantastic weekend!
