Happy Friday! I’m thrilled the weekend is here and that my best friend and her fam are coming to visit! No real wild plans besides maybe getting a pumpkin, hanging out and watching a pretty big Clemson game. Hooray for fall! Let’s catch up with a little “currently” kind of post and please play along in the comments- it’s always so much fun for me to read!
// Current Celebration //
Today is my parents’ wedding anniversary! It sounds like their celebration, not mine, but watching them model such a loving, healthy marriage has arguably done more for me than most other things in my life. So congratulations mom and dad- love y’all so much!
// Current Confession //
Two night ago I slept terribly. I had nightmares that came from who-knows-where and woke up every hour. The girls seemed worn out too, so yesterday at 2 pm I put the girls in a bath, scrubbed them down, then we all put on pajamas. We then proceeded to light a fall candle and sit on the couch for the rest of the afternoon. We snuggled while we watched the newly released version of Beauty and the Beast (it’s so great!), then about 4 episodes of Sophia the First. I’m sure I melted their brains forever and ever, but it felt amazing.

Collagen. I’d say I’ve been taking it most everyday for a month or so now and dare I say I feel like I might be able to see some results? My nails are harder and my hair seems to be growing faster. And randomly, my elbow that sometimes hurts hasn’t bothered me as much. Whatever the reason, I’m convinced enough that I just ordered another container and made an appointment for a haircut.
// Current Plan //
For Friday? Nothing wild– a little grocery shopping then maybe, maybe building Hailey’s bunk beds (currently on super sale!) that arrived 2 weeks ago that we have yet to tell her about or put together. Reviews say it takes 3 hours and trying to find that chunk of time is proving more difficult than we thought.
I’m also planning October, which has a lot of fun things going on, including Maker’s Market, a really incredible Etsy-ish event I’m helping put together benefiting our local Girls on the Run chapter. Please check it out and local friends, I hope to see you there!
Current Book //
Hahahahahahaha. I picked up a Real Simple magazine on a whim the other day and thoroughly enjoyed flipping through it with a cup of hot tea. Other than that, I haven’t read a thing since the Collapse of Parenting.
// Current Accomplishment //
Meal planning. I’ve been more consistent in my planning and implementation over the last few weeks and no matter how often I do it, looking over my complete plan and list brings me immense satisfaction.
Last night I put in an online order for some of my basics using Walmart’s grocery pick up (<- referral link that gives us both $10 towards an order). I like to use it when I need to restock on pantry items like peanut butter, broth, la croix, etc. I’ll swing by this morning to pick that up before grabbing my other stuff elsewhere.
// Current Show //
Quantico. I don’t even know how I got into this 22 episode season. I’m not sure I even am that wild about the show in general (and it’s probably where my nightmares came from), but now that we are this far in, I have to find out who the terrorist is.
I’ve heard wonderful things about This Is Us though– anyone watching that?
// Current Wishlist//
Mostly just for slightly cooler temperatures. I’m not hoping for cold, but I’m over seeing temps in the low 80’s. Tomorrow will be October after all!
// baby Hailey!! Oh time… //
Also hoping Georgia looks a little (a lot) better this week versus Tennessee than we did last week against Ole Miss (that was painful).
Oh, one last thing- to step up my skincare! My hodgepodge of products don’t seem to be doing my skin any favors lately. I am gearing up for a total focus on my face (turning 33 apparently made my pores triple in size). Currently researching things and asking for input.
What’s currently going on in your life?
Do you have any skincare products/services/tips that have noticeably changed your skin?

Thank you for the Anniversary recognition–it has been a fabulous 38 years!
I’m using the collagen too, but can’t say that I have noticed a difference, but then again, I am not taking as much as they recommend–but I also ordered another container.
I’ve enjoyed the Skinceutical brand for my skin–but then again, my skin is a little more “experienced” than yours 🙂
In reference to your nightmares–are you taking any melatonin? When I tried it to help me sleep, I had terrible nightmares–decided I would rather not sleep than have the nightmares.
Loved sitting on porch this morning, wrapped in a blanket (finally!!), cup of coffee, and watching the world come alive–Life is Wonderful!
Brittany Dixon says
No Melatonin here, but maybe an extra glass of wine and watching a show on terrorists? That probably did it 😉 Love y’all so much!!

I, too, thank you for the anniversary good wishes. It has been a blast being married to the most wonderful person that I have ever met! And, to have you and Kris as a result of our union has been a blessing beyond my wildest dreams! May you continue to enjoy this wonderful family life that you and David have created.

Have to think you for the meal plan notebook idea! I love it so much and find myself fondly looking back through prior weeks with such a sense of accomplishment. Something so small but weirdly so satisfying. Glad to know I’m not alone in that.
Go tigers!

“This Is Us” has definitely pulled me in. It is heartwarming, with a little funny thrown in. Near the end of each show they reveal a pretty important detail and it makes you want to keep watching. I would recommend at least watching 1 episode and see what you think =) Currently I am enjoying meal planning, baking with pumpkin, and watching all my favorite fall shows.
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve heard so many amazing things that there is no doubt it’s on my must watch list. I’m excited to have something to hold me over until Nashville returns!

I have two new-to-me skincare products that I’ve been using lately and LOVE — the first is Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I put a few drops on my fingertips and rub it all over my face at night before bed, and the next morning my skin looks so refreshed! It’s a little pricey but the bottle lasts forever. The other product I’m currently obsessed with are Korean sheet masks. They are incredibly cheap (I buy them at a local Asian grocery store for $1 each) but you can also find them on Amazon. The brand is called “Dermal Korea Collagen Essence” and they come in a bunch of different varieties (if you buy on Amazon, I think you get a variety pack). They are amazing!!!!
And here’s the proof that these two products are actually making a difference in my skin – I have had several coworkers tell me how “refreshed” “well rested” and “glowing” I look – and I’m a 40 year old mom to a 4.5 year old and a 5 month old, so believe me when I tell you I feel neither refreshed nor well rested 🙂 But I love the compliments! 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Ohhh I’ve heard SO much about those sheet masks but never knew where to find them- amazon- duh, why didn’t I think of that? I definitely want to try them- thanks for all the recommendations!
Heather Shoberg says
Your parents look amazing! Just sayin. 😉 I’m loving fall weather and hope you get some soon too. There’s just something about sweater weather that I love… for about a month and then it can get warm again. Haha! I think I need to give that Collagen a try. I’m getting more creaky with joint pain and I’m way too young for that nonsense! 😉
Brittany Dixon says
I will pass the compliment along to them! 🙂 PS- I feel like every other day I say “I’m too young to feel ___” haha
Heather @Lunging Through Life says
I could use an actual skincare regimen. Could you share any you may receive? Have a wonderful weekend! I need to step up my meal planning. I can plan but then don’t follow through with the prep on the weekends ha!
Brittany Dixon says
If I find anything that works/that I love I will scream it from the rooftops 😉 Hope you have a great weekend too!
Elizabeth says
Hi! While I don’t have a great skin care regimen to share, I too am noticing skin changes as I turn one year older. I went to sephora yesterday & they helped me pick out some new makeup. I’m not into makeup but want to look good! I got Sephora Collection matte perfection powder foundation & am loving it. I’m also using my old favorite, expensive but worth it, NARS blush/bronzer duo in orgasm/laguna. Let me know if you find anything that works!!
Brittany Dixon says
New make-up is definitely on my NEED list. My make up bag is embarrassing right now- everything cracked and empty for the most part. Then I wonder why it doesn’t look good 😉
Jessica says
I’m 34 with a toddler and one on the way, and pregnancy has made my skin so dry and irritated! I’m also scheduling my second ever facial soon and hope to make them at least a quarterly thing from now on to really focus on preventing signs of aging and doing regular gentle peels. I try to avoid harsh chemicals, synthetic ingredients and fragrances, parabens, etc. so I subscribed to GoodBeing monthly box and love it so far! 5 all natural or organic products and I get to try some more expensive brands before buying. MyChelle is a great brand and a sample I’m loooooving is the Bio-Firmâ„¢ Hydrogel Concentrate. Would love to read an update on what other skin care products you find! I’m thinking of retinol which isn’t the most natural but from what I’ve heard, the most effective!
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve heard great things about retinol too but haven’t tried it because I’ve been pregnant/nursing for so long. I would LOVE to make facials a regular occurrence. I have a friend who does and her skin always looks amazing.
Angie says
I love Mary Kay. Low pressure. A good rep should show you products on half of your face to see the difference. Everyone is different so good to look around for what works for your skin.
Brittany Dixon says
I actually have some Mary Kay eye shadow I think is great! I haven’t looked much at their other stuff though- thanks!
Lizzy says
I use dermalogica on my face, and I love it. Also, definitely watch “This is Us”! It looks like it is going to be so good. Kind of like a Parenthood replacement (if you happened to watch that.)
Brittany Dixon says
Can you believe I’ve never seen Parenthood? I’ve heard people rave about it! I need to get with it.
Tracy says
I’m on my third tub of collagen and definitely notice a change in my nails & hair. Soooo many new baby hairs along my hairline! Love it!
This is Us…. my new favorite show!! You must watch it. It’s much better than Quantico IMO!!!
Brittany Dixon says
I have zero doubt it’s better than Quantico (which I don’t even think is that good but now I’m too far in to get out ;)). BUt This is Us is definitely next on my radar!
Fiona MacDonald says
My favourite skin care line that I have used religiously for probably 10 years is Eminence. If you can find a spa nearby that sells it/uses it , try it. It’s all organic ( which I care less about -no shame) but it smells amazing and my skin looks great. I change my creams up every season since we have looong horrible winters so I used something heavier in winter and lighter with SPF in summer 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Scent is so important isn’t it?! I’ve never heard of it so I will definitely look it up. Thanks for the rec!
lisa says
I love my Clarisonic. I find it gives my face a nice glow and really cleans and massages out the lines in my face! Even if I just use it with Cetaphil or a basic cleanser it makes a nice difference in my skin. I use it twice a day and can’t go without it!
Ashlee says
My biggest skin tip comes from Dr Oz (so cliche)… ACE your FACE… get a serum with Vitamin A, C, E and put it on every day! That has made my skin so smooth and soft.
I started using that some collagen about 6 weeks ago too and my nails have never looked more amazing.. I can only imagine what it’s doing on the inside 🙂
Pam says
Hope the bunk bed assembly went well! How accurate was the timing prediction?!
I’m 39 weeks pregnant today so currently waiting for baby girl to make her arrival 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
39 weeks?! Ah, so exciting!! Good luck! 🙂
Therese says
Target had a BeautyCounter special collection a few weeks ago, but you can buy the products online, too. The charcoal mask is great… Clarifying without drying! I also use the cleansing balm twice a week in place of face soap, and nourishing eye cream and nourishing might cream daily. My skin he never ever been this soft. I’m obsessed!
Therese says
Err… “Night” cream, not “might” 😂
Sam says
This Is Us is amazing and definitely reminds me of Parenthood! You need to watch both! 🙂 Most episodes bring tears but it’s a good thing.
Shauna Saghbene says
Perfect timing! Brittany, you and i are almost exactly two years apart so i have been thinking a lot about updating my skin care routine too! Lots of good recommendations on here that I cant wait to try–currently i use BioOil on my face–I started using it during pregnancy to avoid stretch marks and I figured if its good for my stomach, it must help my face too–and coconut oil/vitamin E during the day, but I feel like I need to exfoliate or SOMETHING now that I’m 30somewhereinthemiddle…..
Brittany Dixon says
Oh I loved Bio Oil for my belly when pregnant! I never thought about it for the face. Thanks for the input!
Jennifer says
Yes Yes Yes to This Is US!! So good!!
If you have a friend that sells Rodan & Fields (who doesn’t haha), I really like their skin care lines and the fact that it’s very simple to use. No guessing! I use the Reverse line which has really helped with sun damage (thanks college years in the tanning bed! Ugh).
jeannine hopper says
Brittany! I never comment but I’m always reading. If you are still looking for new skincare you MUST try Rodan and Fields. I was a customer for 18 months and now I am a consultant. They have different regimens for different skin concerns (acne, wrinkles, sun spots, redness/irritation, etc) and most importantly they WORK. The products are developed by the same dermatologists responsible for ProActiv. They have a quick solution tool which can help recommend products that would be best for your skin concerns.

I love Arbonne for skincare! The products are non-toxic, vegan, and get results. There a few different lines depending on your needs! I’m not a consultant (yet 😊) but I could put you in touch with one!
Samantha says
What did you think of the parenting book you linked to? It looks interesting!
Brittany Dixon says
Personally I really liked it! In fact, my head almost fell off from nodding along in the beginning. It’s a bit of a good reality check in today’s society where no one wants to tell their child no and served as a good boost of confidence to me to be the parent, and raise them to be good people instead of just making sure they are happy all the time.
