Happy Monday; I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was busy; a good blend of productive and relaxing. The productive part included dominating the organization challenge. It start Friday with the master closet.
I had gotten into a habit of just throwing clothes into cubbies. I knew where to find them, but the whole thing was unorganized and ugly. I also had maternity clothes mixed in with regular clothes and clothes hanging up that I knew Iβd never wear again. I tore into it.
I organized each cubby into a category and put the ones I use most often (maternity yoga pants) in the most accessible location. I also went through all my clothes and came up with a big βol bag to donate. Of course, there is still laundry to do, but isnβt there always?
Saturday was busy. I attended the NC Fitness expo, which was a lot of fun. I ran into some friends and tried some new products. My favorite was this Clear My Head purse-sized essential oil bottle that used scent to clear up a headache. It really smells like it works!
That evening David and I were invited to a health-focused dinner with some friends at Trump National. The food was phenomenal and I couldnβt get over the dessert. A vegan cashew coconut cheesecake with chocolate nut crust. It was amazing. Horrible picture, delicious dessert!
With Saturday being so full, I cheated and actually tackled both Saturday & Sundayβs organization task on Sunday- the fridge and freezer. I keep a pretty organized fridge I thought, so I was shocked at how many items needed to be tossed out and how desperately it needed a scrub.
David helped me remove all the shelves and drawers so I could scrub them down.
It was the same protocol for the overloaded freezer.
The pictures might not show a big difference, but the fridge and freezer feel so FRESH. I love having it cleaned and reorganized, and stocked for the week, of course.
Speaking of stocked, meals are planned for the week!
Greek Style Shrimp over Spaghetti Squash
Vegan Bean Burgers with Homemade Sweet Potato Fries
Chicken Tortilla Soup
Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Spicy Lentils with Sweet Potato and Kale
Homemade Pizza
And the listβ¦
We arenβt expecting any snow, but it is supposed to be cold tonight (like 7 degrees). Iβm wondering if that is the reason the store was almost completely wiped out of produce? Luckily I snagged most of what I needed.
It looks as though the organization bug continues to take over my life. Just look at my cart. I didnβt even notice how organized it was until it was pointed out on instagram! Haha.
Do you organize your grocery cart or just toss it all in?
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I cleaned and organized our refrigerator this weekend as well! It was kind of a pain to do but so glad I did. Kinda shocked with what I found as well. Ick!
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes says
You are so inspiring! I’ve been trying to reorganize slowly but surely before baby number 2 makes her appearance!

i LOVE cleaning out my fridge. it’s so much fun for some reason. i like having more space to put new, fresh foods in it. π your car omg…that’s hysterical. you would die if you saw the way i toss my food in like i’m playing basketball or something!
Brittany Dixon says
Sounds like Hailey’s style! She loves throwing into the cart willy-nilly and trying to dunk. It’s pretty awesome π
Marjorie says
I do not orgnize my grocery cart, but I DO organize it once it hits the checkout. I put all of the cold stuff together, all cans together, all toiletries together, etc. I like my stuff bagged so that it makes putting away easier once I get home. Several cashiers have commented on that too.
I also organize my shopping list in the order in which I walk the store. That way I am less likely to miss something on my list.
So I guess you would say it is selective OCD. Ha!

That cheesecake sounds delish!! I need to do a major organization takeover in my house too. Is it bad if I put it off until this semester of school is finished? So in true fashion, make it “spring cleaning.” haha
Looks like you did some awesome work there, and cannot wait until my fridge semi-resembles yours!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I’m so jealous of your closet space. I can’t wait to move so I can have a bigger one.
I don’t try to organize my cart but I put the food items in there by aisle so by default it’s pretty organized.
Kristen@Change of Pace says
I love reading about what you are organizing! I swear I organize my fridge all the time⦠It gets cluttered so easily!
jen says
closet organization is at the top of my house priority list right now. MUST get it done! i did my fridge and freezer a few weeks ago and it does feel so good to purge and have it all clean and fresh.
Ashley says
So impressed! I started out the organization plan strong – Christmas decor, purse/diaper bag, and under bathroom sinks (I switched order a touch) – but failed over the weekend in prep for market this week! Hope to catch up.
Question(s) about your closet: Did y’all install the closet organizers yourself? If so, where are they from? And, is that really all of your clothes? I actually LOVED having a more minimal maternity wardrobe and have vowed to deep purge my regular clothes – but I am SO bad about keeping things “just in case”. I can donate everything else in my house but clothes and serving pieces are my weakness.
Brittany Dixon says
When we moved in we had a contractor build the shelving in for us. He did it on the side (he was also our painter) and it was well-priced. They are wood and we painted them ourselves.
And sadly, yes, that is ALL my clothes. Like, every season, haha. I am very open that I need serious help with shopping. I just hate keeping anything in there that I know I won’t ever wear. Someone take me shopping! (Well, not until after I’m back to my normal size ;))
Katrina says
Wow, I wish I had’ve been HALF as productive as you this weekend! π
I go through phases where I am super laid-back (read tunnel-visioned) and not concerned about organization, especially during exams and the holidays. Whenever it would HELP to be organized…
Otherwise, I’m super organized and will go out of my way to organize things (like my shopping cart!!) π
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Sounds like a productive weekend! I’m slowly but surely going through our closets and cupboards too, and it feels so good! Next up is cleaning out the fridge and freezer!
Brittany Kirkland says
I organize my cart! I also organize how everything goes on the check out counter. Drives my hubs bonkers. Friday we were grocery shopping and we were in a hurry so he didn’t worry about my OCD when he stacked the food up on the counter! I shot him that look and He backed off! lol!
Ali says
I pretty much just toss it all in the grocery cart, but I really should organize it because your cart looks much better. As much as I hate the grocery store, this might help my cause. I LOVE having a clean fridge and freezer and closet.
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Wow impressive job on the organizing!
Kari says
I’m loving this series. I’ve been following along and I already feel more organized. I really need to do better with food prep though. It would save me so much time during the week and save us from eating out because I ran out of time.
Brittany Dixon says
I love that you’ve been following along- yay!! And yes, meal planning is my life-saver. It’s rare I skip a week, but when I do, I feel so loss. I’ve become very dependent haha π
katie says
I live with my parents so I’m not following your organization exactly. But I did take the time to go through my tank top drawer and organize that. I got rid of some tanks that I rarely wear, and fold them all so I can grab the ones I need.
Danica @ It's Progression says
I don’t necessarily organize my grocery cart but I do always get produce first so that it fills up the majority of the cart. I organize my shopping list though according to categories – fruit and veggies, any dairy/meat/refrigerated things, frozen things, canned/jarred, and then other misc.
Sarah says
I just toss it all in…but I am really craving some cleaning and organization in my life right now! Of course, now I am sitting at the computer and just enjoying reading blogs. Ha!
Elle says
I seriously love your posts, I get a lot of my meal ideas from you!
Matt @ Runner Savvy says
Ugh I need to organize my kitchen and closet! That will be a task for this weekend π
Erin says
I wanted to say thank you for being so motivating. Your self improvement efforts help spur me on, too! I have to tackle the closet as well. Not easy with a toddler around!!! Bet your hubby feels very blessed to have such a hard working wife. π
Jill @ Fitness, Health and Happiness says
That is so weird. My local grocery store and Whole Foods were wiped out of produce too! I organize my grocery cart the way I want it bagged π
I organize to relax so I loved reading your post and looking at your pics π
Heidi @ Idlehide says
ok, I am officially jealous of your mad organizing and cleaning skills. Is there really anything better than a newly cleaned fridge? You are awesome! π
Courtney @ Don't Blink. Just Run. says
We tend to organize our grocery cart in “departments”. We keep all the refrigerated stuff together, frozen, produce, squishy (bread, eggs, etc) so we can put it on the belt that way and have it bagged that way. Then it’s super easy to put away when we get home. Wait, doesn’t everybody do that? π
Great job with the organizing so far!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
We just did a whole fridge clean out, too… washing down all the shelves and all. It feels so good to have that fresh start!
Lani says
This might be a silly question but what do you do to clean the fridge? Products used? Do you wash the shelving in the dink? My sink is small so it’s hard to do. Thank you!
Brittany Dixon says
Hi Lani- no silly questions! I washed all the racks and shelving in the sink. I’m fortunate to have a large sink, but it still made quite a mess! I’ll probably do it again in the summer when I can take them outside. I used dishwash soap, a sponge and water to give them a god scrub down. Nothing fancy, but it made a big difference! π
