Charleston

Even though it’s supposed to rain all weekend, my love for this town isn’t shaken. Knowing that the forecast calls for steady rain today and tomorrow, we decided to soak up as much of the city as possible yesterday.

We arrived around 1:30pm and went straight to lunch.

Charleston- 82 Queen inside

We went to 82 Queen in downtown Charleston. It was my first time there, and I loved that it had all the charm of Charleston. We decided to eat in the courtyard to take full advantage of the sunshine.

Charleston- outside

Biscuits, she crab soup and a bloody mary to start.

The biscuit and soup that I shared with mom were phenomenal. Bring a self-proclaimed bloody mary expert, it was just OK.

I ordered the crab cake, which was delicious and true to it’s 90% crab label, grilled chicken, fried green tomato and cheddar grits. I split with mom, who ordered the jambalaya.

The dry jambalaya was my favorite- perfect amount of spice!

From there we went exploring through the market.

And wondered the streets.

Through the old graveyards,

and down to the water.

It is so beautiful here.

We are actually staying at Isle of Palms, so we finally headed to our rental around 5:45, just in time to enjoy a short, cool walk on the beach.

We are up and moving this morning, hoping to make it to a ghost tour. I’m not sure how long Hailey will last, but luckily I’ll have many wonderful helping hands!

Charleston- girls trip

Cara (my sis in law with my new niece in her belly), me, my Aunt Lynn, my aunt Cynde, my cousin Mya (with a little one in her belly, too!), my momma and of course, sweet Hailey.

Have a wonderful weekend! And if you have any Charleston suggestions for rainy days, please feel free to share Smile

Charleston will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first place Vishnu and I visited together (just the two of us) after we started dating. :) Hope y’all have a blast!

If you don’t want to go into downtown one night (since it can flood pretty badly in the rain), you must try Coleman Public House in Mt. P! And order the Mac and Cheese – you will not regret it.

The aquarium is great with lots if kid friendly activities like the touch tank and feeding the sting rays! Soak up the fun and company – rainy or not, I am jealous!

Acme on IOP has a great breakfast as well as Charleston Cafe and Paige’s Okra Grille in Mt. P. Basil if you’re into Thai food – right off the IOP connector. Palmetto County Park has some great walking paths if it clears up. There’s always the Aquarium for rainy days. I second Coleman Public House! Enjoy Charleston!!

I live in Charleston and second all of Jess’ suggestions – especially breakfast/brunch at Acme.

Also, as Brittany said – Coleman Public House has something for everyone! Not a view or anything too special about the atmosphere but tons of beer on tap and amazing dishes.

I’d also recommend the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry (on Ann street downtown) in addition to the Aquarium.

Other foodie fave: Tattooed Moose – the duck club is out of this world!

Last idea:

The Alley – new AMAZING bowling alley – very kid-friendly on Columbus Street off of Upper King! They have great food (by Home Team) and also tons of fun games!

Sounds like a wonderful girls weekend! Those are really the best, aren’t they?

I’ve never been to Charleston, but its on my list for sure. Though when I win the HGTV dream home, I’ll be well-acquainted with it ;)

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG. I ALWAYS talk about the one time I was in Charleston, and how I still, to this day, credit 82 Queen as one of the best meals of my LIFE. We sat in the courtyard and ate those delicious herby biscuits, and it started to drizzle and had to go inside. I ate BBQ Shrimp ‘n Grits for the first time, and I swear, I haven’t been the same person since.

Poogan’s Porch is a great little restaurant as well as SNOB. There is also a great cooking store on Broad I think?

Oh, and the Vendue Inn is a great rooftop bar/restaurant with some great views! :)
