Post Baby Body: 1 Week Postpartum Progress

Yesterday we celebrated Hailey’s 1 week birthday!

It’s been an amazing week and she is doing wonderfully.  We had a follow up appointment at the lactation consultant and they confirmed that she’s a great eater.  They want babies to be back at birth weight by 10 days old.  Well our little peanut weighed 7 lbs 1 ounce at birth, left the hospital at 6 lb 11 ounces and is now up to 7 lbs 8.6 ounces! I knew those cute cheeks were filling out ;)

Hailey is a great baby so far. She is letting me sleep from 10:15pm-2:15am and again from 3:00am-7:15am. It’s much more sleep than I was ever expecting!  (She stayed in this position as I began unswaddling her- so stinkin’ cute!)

Ok, ok, enough bragging on baby- let’s get to the dirt.

Hailey’s 1 week birthday meant 1 week post partum for me, and I was interested in seeing what my body had done.  Here’s the info.

A couple days before I was induced I took my weight and measurements.  We all remember what I looked like:

And here’s what I look like 1 week post partum.

Although it was tempting, I didn’t allow myself to suck in ;)

First off, someone remind me to stand up straight- posture, Brittany, posture!

And secondly, here’s the numbers:

Before Delivery 1 Week Post Partum Difference
Right Arm 10.75” 10” -.75”
High Waist 33.5” 31.5” -2”
Around Belly 42.5” 36.5” -6”
Hips 41” 39.5” -1.5”
Right Thigh 23.5” 22.5” -1”
Right Calf 13.75” 13” -.75”
Weight 143.5 lbs 125.5 lbs -18 lbs

I’m really pleased with the progress! I haven’t done any exercise, as my body is still healing.  I’m walking around easily and am fine going up and down stairs, but no walks yet.

Plus, I’ve been eating well… like reallllly well, thanks to mom!

I debated how much to share of the numbers, but in the end I decided it’s my blog and I’ll blog what I want. ;)

You shared my journey as I got bigger, and I want to share with you still as I get back to my fighting weight. PLUS, let’s be honest, I’m hoping you can help hold me accountable.

From here on out I plan on doing monthly progress updates…

Are these something you are interested in reading?

or TMI?

Not TMI at all — I love the body after baby post — I’ll be doing them after I have my little one.

Happy 1 week birthday to Hailey!!

Isn’t it amazing the progress in just one week? Our bodies know what they are doing. And I really believe that getting started sooner rather than later with caring for our bodies makes a big difference in keeping the body going. I’m not saying right, right away…but I think starting up with exercise and watching food by 2 months pp makes a HUGE difference in momentum. At least from my experience and what I have heard from many others. I have no doubt you will have post baby body progress. :)

Brittany you look awesome 1 week postpartum! Its not too TMI at all and I would definitely be interested in reading progress updates and how you’re going about it. I know we’re all different but learning about one another’s experience in this is truly useful and I think us readers would learn a lot from your experience. I would really appreciate it as well since we’re TTC and I’d love to reference back to this when its my turn to get my post baby body back :)

Congrats again and you’re lil girl is absolutely perfect and so precious! :)

Not TMI at all! These posts are really interesting. I’m 14 weeks pregnant and just starting to show, so I’ve been visiting every “pregnant running” blog and comparing my bump to others. Very rarely does one see post-baby bodies, and you look amazing! It’s crazy to think you lost over 18 pounds in a week!

Your daughter is beautiful and looks so happy and healthy!

I appreciate your honesty in letting people know it takes time and effort to get your body back to normal. Great post, I think you should keep this up! It’s encouraging!

I love reading post baby blogs, and thanks for the honest numbers and pictures. I have had two babies (one is now 4 and one is 13 months), and both times I lost a lot the couple of weeks, but it was hard work after that! I recommend lots and lots of planks once your abs are ready. I’m glad I found your blog, the food looks so yummy!

I think it is great that you’re sharing this info with your readers- it’s real!
I think a lot of women worry about the post-baby time (getting their bodies back to ‘normal’) but it is a beautiful transition and isn’t nearly as bad as many think.
I stopped blogging post-baby for a few months due to some family health issues, but wish I had chronicled my post-baby bod. You’ll be so glad you did!
