I’ve shared with you about how I used to fear being an adult, right? I’d hear grown-ups discuss pot and pan preferences and cringe at the thought that my conversations would ever be so dull. I feared adult-style weekends, too. You know, the ones where you brag about how hard you worked in the yard and how nice your grass is going to be with the new seed?
Then the lame-o adults would discuss the new recipes they tried out. Seriously, cooking was the highlight of your weekend? LAME.
Then, of course, the grown-ups would have to brag about their kids, like how cute they were in the wagon or new milestones they reached. Gosh, were kids their entire life?
Well, now I’m here. I get it. Gosh I’m proud of what David has done to our yard! And have you made my sweet potato chili yet? Because it’s incredible. Oh, and did you hear that Hailey took her first steps this weekend?! Wobbly, yes, but steps.
My name is Brittany. And I’m a grown up.
And you know what? It’s not so bad. It’s kind of awesome, actually. I might not be able to dance on the bar until 3am (…not that I ever did that ), but I get to go places like Lazy 5 Ranch with my family and freak out with excitement that I pet a baby giraffe’s nose.
I get to watch Hailey soak in the world around her with wide eyes.
I get to act like a kid and convince people that it’s for Hailey’s sake and not because I still have the drive in me to be king of the castle!
I get to PLAY.
I get to watch the guy I used to order late night Papa Johns with become a dad. A great dad.
Heck, I even get to chat it up with other old fogies, like myself.
So, high school me, who feared the days I’d be a suburbanite- no worries. You have no idea how much you’re going to love this life. Heck, you’ll have no curfew!
…but you’ll still be in bed by 10 anyway
Happy fall, y’all!

Love, love, love this! Your boring adult weekend looks perfect 🙂 I used to also feel that way about old folks until I became one!

You are, and always will be, Daddy’s little girl, no matter how “grown up” you are!

I know, and I love it :)Love you, dad! <3

Love this post! It is one of my favorites! This sums up my life too…not a boring adult one by any stretch of the imagination!

He’s one sweet dad, isn’t he? 🙂
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes says
Very sweet dad! I don’t even think my dad knows what a blog is, much less that I have one…

Way to go Hailey!!
And this is such a sweet post, and absolutely right on. I realized I was becoming a “boring adult” when I wanted to shop for home decor instead of clothes and my favorite pastime became grocery shopping!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
aww…sounds like an awesome weekend! I definitely look forward to the day when David (my David) becomes a dad. It must be so fun to watch.

Sounds like the perfect weekend to me! I think I’ve always been an adult on the inside, so this kind of stuff is always welcome! I can’t wait until Vishnu and I can share the world wiht our little one (not happening for a while though)!
Brittney says
Ah, did you guys drive your car through at Lazy 5 Ranch? We did that a couple years ago and the animals TRASHED our car (a rental, luckily!). Those animals get crazy when they want their food!
Brittany says
We did, against my better judgement! We missed the last hayride of the day and David had never seen it, so we just went for it. We didn’t have feed, so it wasn’t too bad, but definitely got a few dings. DOH! Lesson learned 😉

Awww, I love this post! It’s so down to earth. 🙂
Oh, and I also love that last pic of you and Hailey. It’s priceless!
Amanda @ Sistas of Strength says
I love this so much! I always think about how I used to fear having nothing to do on a weekend. NOW…that is one of my favorite kinds. 😉
Sarah (The Social Eater) says
I’m right there with you! Although I think grocery shopping was my idea of fun, even as a teenager. <–old soul?:-)
Kristen @ Miami Housewife says
Agreed – being a grown-up isn’t half bad 🙂
Congrats to Hailey on her first steps!

Congrats to Hailey!!! And I agree with you…our weekend was about the same and it was perfect! Spending time with my little family will always trump what I used to love doing in my “younger days”.
Chantal says
Love this post. It’s so true.
Maria says
I’m pretty sure my young self would look at me now and consider me pretty lame, but then again, my entertainment in high school and college was pretty tame…
Even though we don’t have children yet, we spent the weekend at the pumpkin patch and Corn Maze. Just prepping ourselves I suppose 🙂
Danica @ It's Progression says
love this post 🙂

Congrats to Hailey! 🙂 I cannot wait to take my little man to see some giraffes. I’ll probably be more excited than he will be!
Ashley says
Perfect post! My husband and i are the first of our friends with kids (or even married!), so we had the same fears. We call our friends like “who wants to go to the pumpkin patch?” haha. I think they’re all itching for kiddos now, though, so it’s all good. 🙂
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
I love this post! I’m still a little scared of getting older, but I’m starting to get used to being an adult :). It’s not so bad!

Great post… Miami is really one of the best destinations in Florida… Miami city has a lot to offer when it comes to entertainment. Another thing to mention is the amazing nightlife the city has to offer. I would no doubt suggest Miami city to anyone that wants to enjoy in a very interesting city!
