Happy Friday and Happy October! I always agree with Anne this time of year: I’m so glad we live in a world where there are Octobers.
Kaitlyn set her alarm early on October 1 to drag out our Halloween bin and turn our house from full on fall to a spooky fall. I love her excitement over the seasons! Also, a friendly reminder that these are absolutely the best bang for your buck for Halloween decor.
Today we have a park playdate with friends, my mom comes to visit, the girls have soccer games, there is football to watch, and the weather looks like it will be beautiful- a lot to look forward to enjoying! But first, let’s dive into the Friday FIVE!
ONE: Your September Amazon Favs
I’m getting a good giggle looking over these because you might notice there are a couple items that aren’t my usual expertise. That is because David has started sharing reviews of products in his wheelhouse (yard, home improvement, energy monitoring) and they’ve proven to be helpful it seems! You can see them on my storefront.
- 4 Gallon Battery Powered Backpack Sprayer
- Emporia Home Energy Monitor and the Sense Energy Monitor
- Faux Fall Mums
- Artisan Sourdough (spiral edition)
- Stainless Steel 16 oz Lunch Thermos
TWO: Greenville Date Night- The Lazy Goat
David and I got to go out to dinner together this week and tried the newly reopened The Lazy Goat. The location and view are fantastic, right on the Reedy River and the Swamp Rabbit Trail so people watching is excellent. The inside ambiance is beautiful and the staff was top notch. The food looked really pretty, but the food I’d probably rate 7/10. The truffle fries were delightfully crispy but needed salt and a different dipping sauce. The lamb kabobs were well cooked and downright delicious. The other dishes were just ok, but I wouldn’t order them again. The malbec was great 🙂

THREE: Fall Garden
I feel a little lackadaisical about my fall garden. That’s a nicer way to say I’m half-assing it, right? I ripped out all exhausted summer plants, added a couple new bags of soil, tilled it up, and just this past weekend I planted some seeds directly. I planted carrots, broccoli, cabbage, kale, parsley, dill, sage, thyme, and oregano. Will any of it take? Only time will tell!
Do you plant anything for fall? I also want to plant garlic but need to find a place to do so. I’m also thinking of starting my indoor herb garden back soon!
.
FOUR: Pioneer Woman Pot Roast
I made this pot roast this week and it was such a winner! It’s not a typical weeknight meal go to, but this would make an epic Sunday night family feast. It’s fairly simple but needs four hours to cook low and slow in the oven (and will make your home smell incredible). I made Instant Pot mashed potatoes to go with it and David in particular raved about this meal. Meat and potatoes- what’s not to love?
.
A New Home for Duck & Nugget
A friend with chicken knowledge came over this week and confirmed what I knew was true (but was in denial over): Duck & Nugget are certainly roosters. She could see the spur beginning to grow, the tail feathers beginning to curve over, and oh yeah, they crow. Furthermore, Duck is starting to be a bit more protective of his flock (as he should be).
Another friend of mine reached out and told me she had found a great potential home for my roosters. I called up the gentleman and he truly is an answered prayer. He and his wife own 50 acres and take in goats, cows, chickens, etc. It’s all set that we will drop the roosters off to them this weekend. Tears welled up in my eyes during the conversation but I know it’s the best thing for all involved. Just confirmation that I’m too soft to be a real farm girl.

Thanks so much for swinging by the blog and chatting today. I hope your weekend is full of goodness! <3

Happy, happy Friday! I’m at work and half sick but so thankful to not have commitments Friday night and also my full 2 hours of planning time at school for the first time in a long while. The cold virus I had managed to run from for the past 2 weeks finally caught up with me yesterday. I put everything I had left into finishing an end of course reflection paper, took a large shot of nighttime Robitussin, crossed my fingers, and hit the bed at 8:30 pm. While I know there are likely better ways to treat a cold I actually felt a bit better this morning, and got in to work a bit later since I was skipping workout, and am now going to enjoy the next 2 hours doing some non-rushed cooking in my classroom. One of my students brought in a massive bag of zucchini left from her summer garden, and I’m going to pilot a zucchini waffle recipe (sweet, not savory) in hopes I can use it next week. My students will be finishing trays of potato skins today which I thought was a good football season food.
Love that Kaitlyn got up early for October 1st decorating! I hope to have time this weekend to get my outdoor stuff up. We’ve got our haunted hotel visit planned as well as some farms and pumpkin patches. I might need another shot of Robitussin tonight 🙂
