Really I should call all my Monday posts this since they tend to just be a ‘what we did this weekend’ breakdown. Sorry everyone. You’re welcome grandparents. (wink)
August has been our last month that truly feels like summer. The heat, of course, has been something fierce, but we also haven’t had many commitments on the agenda, which has made it feel like those classic summer days that seem to go on and on. This past weekend, however, seemed to mark the end of summer, as things start getting kicked back into gear this week. The girls aren’t back in school yet, like so many are, but our calendar is starting to fill up. No complaints from me though, as it should be a fun next few months!
Because of all of this, we took advantage of this past weekend to just enjoy. It started off Friday with an all day adventure to Discovery Place in Charlotte with our BFFs.
With extra hands and four excited girls, we ended up staying the entire day. Kaitlyn was a rockstar.
And I mean that quite literally.
The girls had a blast and I was quite thrilled that I only had to pick up a pizza on the way home because I was exhausted.
Make that double thrilled because our dishwasher broke (again) and a no dishes night was just what the doctor ordered.
Saturday was filled with playing at the park, followed by an afternoon birthday party at a local gym, where Hailey perfected her plank.
If you’ve ever been curious what I look like in bootcamp, well, there it is.
And if you’ve ever been curious what a toddler does when you cut her off at one cupcake, here you go.
That face! (Insert crying/laughing emoji)
Saturday night David I busted out some vino, lit up the grill and met our wonderful new neighbors.
Then we stayed up late drinking said wine and periscoping from David’s account where he has a whopping 1 follower (me). Probably a good thing, as we were well into our bottle of wine before hitting the broadcast button.
Sunday we kicked things up a notch to productive gear. A trip to Barnes and Noble, Whole Foods and Lowe’s set us up for a productive afternoon while giving Hailey plenty of time to master the art of drawing faces while we drove around.
Then David attacked our overgrown yard while I tornadoed (darn it autocorrect, tornadoed is a word!) through the house leaving not a single cabinet unorganized.
That statement is false. There are still plenty of unorganized cabinets, but I’m making serious progress. I’m on a mission to toss all the little odds and ends and junky toys and make our rooms and spaces more simple.
We still have too much STUFF, but I’m working on it. Watch out closets, you’re next.
Of course, as soon as I decided to get rid of STUFF, I also confirmed I needed some powder room decor. After cleaning and vacuuming out the car (which is the most satisfying task), I picked up this flower pot thing that I am still undecided on.
I think they are pretty and kind of like the height, but is it too big?
Do you hate that I bought fake flowers?
David say a real orchid will never survive in the powder room because there is no light. Not because of my black thumb.
We ended the night with a satisfying plop onto the couch as we devoured our Mediterranean salmon and kale.
Delicious. While can’t I figure out how to replicate this Whole Foods parchment pack?
And that does it for the weekend!
When does summer feel like it winds down to you?
Though the heat is still here, the kickoff to football just screams fall to me.
Bathroom flowers- input?
Karen says
I finally gave up fixing our dishwasher about 5 years ago. I actually went back to doing all dishes by hand and don’t miss it a bit.
Love the bathroom flowers by the way:)
Kate says
Looks like a fun weekend- especially for your girls!
I am right with you when it comes to having too much “stuff”. I am amazed at how us humans can collect so many things! I imagine having kids makes it even more severe.
Kate says
Isn’t it crazy how much stuff you can find in a single cabinet?
I’m currently decluttering as well and while I tackled my closet last week I was shocked how many clothes I had and how few I actually wear…
On a different note, that salmon looks really yummy!

I make the exact same face when someone tries to cut me off at one cupcake.

Fun weekend! Fake flower is a good dust collector!
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers says
Sometimes I think my Monday posts are mostly for the grandparents too. haha
We also went to DP this weekend, but hubby and I went as a date night for Science on the Rocks. It felt wrong being there without the toddler though!
As for the flowers, I like!
Heather says
I’m a fan of fake flowers when the quality is good. I actually have fake flowers in our guest bathroom because there are no windows as well, and my cat will eat anything alive so flowers/plants in general are a no go in our house because he will find them and destroy them.
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Decluttering is honestly one of my favorite things to do when the season change (or anytime really!).
And I love those flowers – the height works well I think.
Nadine says
The flowers are too pretty, but I think it’s too full. The height is good, but the volume is too much. Can you cut off one of the flower stems? Maybe use it elsewhere?
LOVE the cupcake face!
Brittany Dixon says
Yes, too full! That’s what I was wondering. I might keep it a few more days and see what I think. I like it, just not sure if something else might work better.

That is the cutest cupcake face ever!! This Nana really enjoyed the entire post. Powder room looks fabulous. I like the flower there. Play area looks great but I want to see a another picture this afternoon at 5:30 🙂

The flowers look great! I thought they were real. I think they’re perfect.
I love decluttering – it’s so freeing. I still need to declutter our guest bedroom (to make room for baby #2) and the kitchen. Why is the kitchen the most daunting? Is it worth keeping uni-taskers?? Such decisions.
I was going to ask if you perfected the Mediterranean pouch! I guess not? Have you asked them how they make it? They may share their secret with you!
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve tried THREE different attempts haha and it just hasn’t come out as flavorful. Next time I grocery shop alone, I’m going to beg for the whole recipe 🙂

Keep. The. Flowers.
Oh, and those BBFs- keep them too.
And keep drinking wine with hubs.
Keep organizing.
Keep. The. Flowers. (Oh wait, I said that!) . – I love the height and fullness especially because you don’t have anything on the walls on that side. If you wanted to hang something on the wall, then downsize the flowers. Homegoods?
Love K’s little dress. Wink wink.

Love the big flowers, why not! My orchid is fake because I have a black thumb and have finally accepted that I cannot grow anything.
Laura @ Semi-Vegetarian.com says
I think the flowers are okay since it’s a powder room and not a regular bathroom. I think if someone was going to be bending down to wash their face, brush teeth, etc. it could feel a little intrusive, but just washing hands— a-ok.
Only downside to fake flowers is they can get a bit dusty. My mother-in-law showed me a cool trick though… take the flowers to a different room and dust them by blowing a hairdryer on the lowest setting (heat and speed-wise). Works like a charm!
Brittany Dixon says
Great tip for the fake flowers! Thanks 🙂
michelle says
where did you get that notebook with the empty heads? haha. my toddler would like something like that to draw on!
Brittany Dixon says
Isn’t it cool?! I wish I knew where to find another one, but it actually was given to me at a conference. If I find another one like it, I’ll share!

I like the flowers, too! And I like your Mon. posts. 🙂 I remember the days when our kitchen/dining area also included my daughter’s kitchen playset. She’s almost 16 now… 😛

I am not a fan of fake flowers.
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
What! I love the fake flowers, and I don’t think they’re too big at all. I’m the queen of fake flowers for a room statement. My house is too dark to keep plants alive long, and I need *something* that looks like it’s happy and living.
Send H to me. I’ll work on that plank. 😉
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says
We never used our dishwasher when we lived in our apartment to save some $, which I guess was good practice since we don’t have one in our house now! Also, can we PLEASE talk about how big Kaitlyn looks in that sad picture?! Ps, definitely also the face of a 24 year old when you cut her off at one cupcake, too.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
I think those flowers look beautiful! What a fun weekend!
Elizabeth Evans says
I can’t believe you only gave her one cupcake ; ) I don’t know if anyone else is having this issue, but I stopped receiving emails that you updated the blog : ( I checked my spam folder but it’s not in there. Any idea on how to fix this? I love reading your blog!

Hell hath no fury like a toddler cut off from anything!!!
