This Friday feels like a huge milestone. It marks the beginning of a month with no plans!
//confetti falls from the air//
Don’t get me wrong, we’ve been to some incredibly fun events: Alexis’ bachelorette party, a girls day out at North Carolina wineries, Memorial Day weekend in South Carolina…
but we’re all ready to balance it all out with some down time. So bring on a weekend of some serious chill time (sunglasses emoji here).
ONE
I caught an early flight home from Ft Lauderdale which worked out perfectly because I had time to snag a nap before a night out in Davidson with David. We went to a Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinner at Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse.
Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is an International Association of Gastronomy, but in short, it was a really fancy five course dinner with wine pairings.
I had a blast, once I could stop myself from giggling at all the forks and the servers putting down our plates all at the same time. Super fancy, I am not. But good food and wine? Count me in!
TWO
Hailey had her dance recital this past Monday and though getting all our ducks in a row (dinner, costumes, flowers, etc) was a little hectic (plus I was still slightly sleep deprived), the whole performance was awesome!
Hailey didn’t seem to have an ounce of stage fright and even gave us a little wave on stage. She had both Mema and Nana there to watch her shine and I know it meant so much to her!
THREE
We got new carpet in the playroom this week, officially starting the transition from cluttered playroom (gosh this picture is embarrassing) to homeschool room!
I’m on the lookout for a big table and chairs (like a casual dining room table), some canvas prints, some cubbies, and BOOKS, among a few other items. The goal is to try and keep it as organized as possible, not necessarily pinterest-worthy.
FOUR
I miss recipe cooking. I have still been cooking, but more throw-some-things-together-and-call-it-dinner rather than following legit recipes to make a cohesive meal.
I am loving my CSA though, as it has kept us eating a ton of vegetables!
I’m looking forward to making a few recipes soon though, like garlic scape pesto (thanks for the rec instagram friends!), egg roll in a bowl (it’s just fun to say), and BBQ Chicken Tacos (among others I’ve saved to my pinterest dinner board).
FIVE
I can’t end this without giving a shout out to all the incredible dads I know; it is Father’s Day Weekend after all!
I can start with my dad, who showed me what it meant to be a loving and involved dad. He coached our teams, he asked about our days and listened to the answers at the dinner table, he always puts his family first, and he was always there (still is) to listen and offer advice when needed. He has always been my biggest supporter (and you too, mom!), and reads the blog daily. I’ve always felt he truly was invested in my world, and that means the world to me. I love you, dad!
And then there is David. Wow. I knew when I married him that I was one lucky lady, but even then I had no clue what an incredible dad he would turn out to be. Our girls could not have a more involved, playful, loving dad than David. He genuinely enjoys being with Hailey and Kaitlyn so much and I laugh at the videos he sends me while I’m away of him “bathing” them with water guns in the yard. I’m so incredibly grateful for what a wonderful dad he is and parenting partner, and I probably don’t say it enough.
And there deserves to be a special shout out to my father-in-law who helped raise two incredible men who are dedicated to their families and excellent fathers. You don’t just pick that up out of thin air; you are taught that.
And my brother, who is the best of the best as far as dads go to his two sweet girls, and the videos he sends me of teaching Kyla to swing a bat in the front yard just melt my heart.
Clearly I could go on and on (and I have!), but I think involved, loving fathers are so incredibly important and I focus so much here on mom life, that I want to give credit where credit is due, and good dads of the world, YOU ROCK.
Ok guys, I’m out for the weekend. R&R is the name of the game!
But first let’s catch up…
What has been going on in your life? Any trips? Fun outings? Great recipes?
Are you doing anything special to celebrate Father’s Day this weekend?

Thanks for the Father kudos. Having a daughter like you makes all the fathering over the years so worth while. It has been, and continues to be, very rewarding being a Father to you, and Kris. Fortunate I am! And, you are fortunate, and deserving, of David – a great Father. Enjoy your chill time!

I am excited to see this homeschool room come along! My tiny house is busting at the seems so I might have some minor jealousy of this large space for the kiddos 🙂

Home school room looks great! Will keep my eye out for any sellers that want to dispose of a casual dining room table 🙂
Those are some incredible dads that you mentioned! Wishing them all a very Happy Father’s Day!

I love a month with no plans… that will not be us, though, right now. Haha! We have swim lessons every Sunday afternoon now, and then there are 4th of July parades and carnivals to go to and I need nice weather so the kids and I can get outside this weekend… we’re crossing our fingers we can go on a nature walk!
The new carpet looks great in the Homeschool Room too!

IKEA is the best place for storage/cubbies!
