Last week the girls were in a morning ballet camp. I’ll be honest, it was a last minute decision and I chose the camp because it was a half-priced deal and for ages 3-5 so they could do it together. #parentingwin The camp culminated with a mini recital, which was way cuter than I would have expected. I mean, yellow tutus. What’s not to love?
Apparently the girls had a great time because after telling me multiple times that we could skip dance this year, Hailey walked out of camp Friday saying she’d like to sign up for another princess dance camp immediately.
Sorry kid, mom missed the deadline.
We had the car packed and after dance, the four of us headed south for a weekend catching up with good friends. We stopped just inside the South Carolina line for lunch at a spot called The Pump House that overlooked the river in Rock Hill. We snagged a spot on the rooftop deck but somehow I forgot to snag a picture of the view? Oops. Here’s my Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich with Slaw as a consolation.
I’d say the service was fair, the food was good, and the atmosphere was great! The Bloody Mary left a little to be desired, but the fries were fantastic!
After lunch, we drove the remaining 2+ hours to arrive in Augusta, GA, home of the Masters Tournament and our dear friends, Joe and Jane Marie. David and Joe were both Sigma Chis at Georgia Tech and post graduation, we all lived on the same street in Charlotte. We were an inseparable foursome, until David’s work moved us a little further north and the Kinseys moved back to Augusta where they now lived with their two adorable little boys and Charlotte, their sweet Boykin.
Hailey, Kaitlyn, and Ridley immediately took off to climb trees while the adults chatted and Jane Marie pulled together a delicious Mexican feast.
Saturday morning started off with pancakes. Jane Marie solidified her coolest host status with the girls when she suggested they add blueberries and sprinkles to the pancakes.
Needless to say, it was a hit among the younger crowd.
From there we took off to a nearby park for some swinging, ball throwing, climbing…
and mosquito swatting. North Carolina skeeters have nothing on the Georgia ones. I must not be too sweet because they mostly leave me alone, but Hailey has no fewer than 30 bites lining her legs! It didn’t deter any of the fun and we spent much of the day playing outside.
I really should have cropped me out of that pic…
By the end of the day, the kids were as thick as thieves.
So much so that they didn’t even flinch when the babysitters showed up and us parents headed out for the night.
Don’t mind David’s awkward ballet arm. He was using the remote feature to take the picture.
We headed out to the Savannah River Brewing Company to sample their brews, eat BBQ from the food truck, and meet up with more friends. It was such a fun and lively atmosphere, which made the perfect pregame for the main event of the night, Corey Smith in concert.
I’ve been a fan of Corey Smith for a while, but seeing him in concert brought it to a new level. He’s as authentic as it gets and I dig his voice. He’s written every song on his 11 albums himself and is a great storyteller both on stage and through his music. The evening was even more enjoyable than I was expecting and if you like country music, I highly suggest going to check him out. Local friends, he is in Charlotte in October!
Oh, and if you went to The University of Georgia like I did, just try to tell me this song doesn’t make you feel nostalgic.
It was a late and wonderful night but true to form, the kids were up and at ’em bright and early, meaning we were too. We hung out through breakfast, then made the trek back to North Carolina to get things in order for the week. A little meal prep, a lot of laundry, and two exhausted kids.
We’ve had this fun weekend on our calendar for a while, so now that it’s over I can feel summer starting to taper off. I hit up the 5:00 Burn Bootcamp this morning and am feeling energized to tackle this week. I’m hoping to clean out closets, clean out the kitchen, and finalize our homeschool room so I can share it with you soon.
Share with me…
best concert you’ve ever been to?!
My top 3 are Michael Buble (incredible talent and humor), Kenny Chesney in Neyland Stadium (hard to beat that combo!), and maybe I’m still riding the high, but I’m throwing Corey in there too!

Neat weekend! Loved the pics and the link to “21” (reminds me of being 21 at Univ. of Wisconsin!) Best concerts, Elvis, Rolling Stones, and Zac Brown.
Brittany Dixon says
Elvis. That is so awesome. I don’t know if I’ve heard that story?!
Erica says
Fleetwood Mac! Time sure does fly! Great pics of your family. I can’t believe school is starting already! I notice it less cause my kids are younger, but I’m excited for cooler weather to roll in. A friend came to visit me last weekend and brought some decadent pumpkin muffins filled with cream cheese (I think they were from Whole Foods)…made it seem like fall π
Brittany Dixon says
I’m reallllllly trying not to to look ahead to pumpkin yet, but man, pumpkin and cream cheese is an incredible combo and now I’m wanting to swing by Whole Foods to check it out- YUM!!

This post had me in stitches. Love David’s ballet arm, the post trip slump and picnic pictures. What a fun weekend! I spent the weekend with friends on the lake, which was every bit as wonderful as you could think.
BeyoncΓ© – hands down!
Brittany Dixon says
I was just looking at your pictures from the weekend- WOW so beautiful!! What a fun time!
Katie D. says
Best concert ever was Garth Brooks! It was AWESOME!
Monica says
I always forget David is a Sigma Chi! My husband is one as well. π
Brittany Dixon says
Oh that’s fun!! Where did he go to school?
Monica says
Minnesota State University, Mankato. π I should probably remember where you went since you’ve mentioned it, but I’m terrible at remembering colleges!
Laura says
Your photo commentaries made me laugh! I am always yelling at my husband “just act natural!!” when he is holding the camera remote. He often will do a good job hiding it, but will have a look of intense focus π
Brittany Dixon says
When I saw the picture I cracked up and told him I’d hold the remote next time π
Jenny says
Literally zero comment on Charlottesville? Really?!
Brittany Dixon says
Jenny, what happened in Charlottesville is truly sickening. Domestic terrorism and racism disgusts me in a way I can not explain. However, I’m unable to just churn out all my thoughts in a logical manner immediately following such a terrible event and felt a sentence or two thrown in at the end about how sad it was would feel inauthentic at best and insulting at worse. I’m just a citizen of this country and a mom like so many others, trying to make sense of the nonsensical and trying to figure out how to navigate parenting and teaching my children better in this world.

What a fun weekend–perfect to start the summer wind down.
Zac Brown & Banks and Shane π

Thanks so much for the Corey Smith recommendation! I’ve been looking for new music to listen to at work and his Pandora doesn’t disappoint π
Best concert I’ve ever been to was Johnnyswim for sure! Just like Corey Smith they’re as down to earth as can be and write all their own music. I’ve loved their country/bluegrass music for a long time but seeing them live really took it to a new level!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh, thank you! I haven’t heard of Johnnyswim but will look him up for sure. Happy weekend!!
Jodie Flicek says
Coldplay blew any other concert out of the water for me. They were amazing!
Brittany Dixon says
I have a good friend that has traveled to several Coldplay concerts and says the same thing!
