I’m home! And happy Monday to you all. We got home last night after a great weekend away. Not only did we get to hang out with family, but David and I also got to have a wild date night out in Atlanta knowing Hailey was in good hands.
Saturday night we drove into Atlanta and checked in at the swanky W hotel in Midtown.
Is it just me or does checking into a fancy hotel make you feel like a real grown up? Ok, maybe it’s just me, but I get excited. Especially with a view like this:
We threw down our stuff, changed and went to grab a drink from the bar.
Manhattan for him; vodka soda with lime for her.
Then we were off to Sweetwater Brewery for my 10 year high school reunion.
It’s surreal that 10 years have passed since I graduated from Sprayberry. It feels like it was yesterday, but when I look that all that has changed (marrying David, having Hailey, career changes, the state I call home) I feel like I’m in such a different place.
Still, I loved high school and giddy doesn’t even begin to describe my emotions heading to the reunion.
Sweetwater has a large room with a beautiful wooden bar that is surrounded by large windows where the reunion was held. The reunion included a bottomless glass of all the Sweetwater beers, delicious BBQ and whole lot of catching up fun.
Having a reunion in the facebook generation is a bit different because many times I had already had some idea of what a fellow classmate has been up to. I was worried I’d be creepy saying “oh yeah, I know you have a baby, too! How is (insert their name) doing??” But you know what? Everyone is on facebook and knows the same stuff, so instead I embraced it, let loose and had a phenomenal time.
We had a small turnout; maybe 80 classmates out of 400 graduates (I’m making up that number. I actually have no clue how many people were in our graduating class). Though I’m disappointed more people didn’t show up, I couldn’t imagined having a more fun time than I did with old friends and am so grateful to my friends that put in all the hard work planning it.
PS- I think I volunteered to plan the 20th, so all you jokers that skipped out better show up in 10 years!
After the reunion, we headed to Ormsby’s for an unofficial after party, then to the Ivy to chat on their patio until the place shut down and kicked us out.
After grabbing some food, David and I finally got to bed at 4:30am.
The next morning we headed back to Hailey’s big smile. Sure I ate a plateful of fries at 4:30am and was trying to function on 3 hours of sleep, but it was all well worth it. Every healthy lifestyle has to have a little bit of wiggle room and Saturday night, I wiggled.
That means today I’ll be busy restocking the fridge with kale, tackling an overflowing email box, hitting the gym and attempting to get through a mountain of laundry.
But first, coffee.
Did you/will you attend your 10 year high school reunion?
Why or why not?
Julia says
Woah, that looks like so much fun, especially your bikini pic…:-)
I am actually going to a reunion in October. Although only 4 years have passed since our graduation, I am so looking forward to seeing everybody again, especially the ones I haven’t been in touch with lately.
And it’s always a great excuse to go shopping before…hehe.

My 10 year is next year, but I won’t be going. It’s halfway across the country from where I live now, so the time and cost is a big deterrent, but high school wasn’t stellar for me and I’ve kept in touch with the few close friends I had then, so I don’t feel any need to go.
Glad you had so much fun at yours! It looked like a blast!
Katie @ Pop Culture Cuisine says
Looks like you had a blast…I had to skip out on mine, it was last summer and I was almost 37 weeks pregnant and not really in the mood to travel or “party it up” so to speak. I’m sad I missed it, but glad I can still connect with people via Facebook these days!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I don’t think I’ll be going to mine. I graduated in 2005 and there has always been facebook to keep in touch with everyone. I’ll probably going to my 20th when I’ve lost touch with more people.
It looks like yours was super fun though!

It looks like y’all had a blast! Mine is actually in October (yay class of 2002!) and I can’t wait!
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
Glad you had so much fun! Looks like a great time!

Aww fun! I missed my 10 year reunion because it was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Pretty dumb day to have it. It was in NJ, and I was with Jeff’s fam in SC. Oh well. Luckily my 3 BFFs went and filled me in on what I missed 😉
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
Nope, I didn’t go. I found out I was pregnant with CK 2 days before!
Ashley says
Great post! Love it! We sure did have a lot of fun catching up. 🙂 Back to life and reality. XOXO
Lauren B. says
Sadly, I didn’t go to mine, because I live on the other side of the country now and the timing wasn’t good for me to fly home. My 15th is next year (aaaah!) so maybe I can go then. Looks like fun!
Corrie @ Blurb Column says
I did not go to my 10 year for a couple of reasons:
1-I didn’t enjoy HS that much
2-The reunion was soo laid back, they went to a park and had subway sandwiches.
3-I had a family reunion in another state the same weekend, so I went to that instead.
My 20 is coming up in 2 years…I wonder if I will go?
Looks like a great night and what a beautiful hotel!

I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now and I thought it was cool that you went to UGA (where I go now), but this is just getting weird! I graduated from Sprayberry just last year!
Brittany says
Ahh! A fellow Yellow Jacket alum! Haha, that’s awesome. I haven’t been back by SHS in so long; I’ll bet it’s changed a lot. That’s so neat though, and I’m a bit jealous that you’re at UGA now. Enjoy!! And Go Dawgs 🙂
Kristen @ Miami Housewife says
I’m a class of ’02 grad as well and my 10 year reunion is happening this fall. I won’t be attending because I live out of state but I’d love to be a fly on the wall and check everyone else out!
Honestly, it’s hard to say whether or not I’d attend if I lived nearby; high school was fun but I’ve been terrible about keeping in touch with old friends so I feel like I’d have no one to go with – kind of like walking into the cafeteria on the first day of school and not knowing who to sit with 🙂
Lisa says
Looks like a very fun reunion:)
I definitely want to attend my high school reunion, I’m not too sure if my school does them though…I sure hope so! Although, my city is super duper small, so we all pretty much stay in touch anyway and we kind of know what each other are doing hah. It would still be fun I’m pretty sure!
Maria says
I cannot believe it’s been 10 years since high school and was floored when I got the email about our reunion. Unlike you though, I graduated with 112 students and remember pretty much everyone of them, though I stay in touch with maybe…one?
p.s. you are a champ for staying up that late! I don’t think I could make it!
Erika says
I went to both my 5 and 10 year reunions. My 15 year will be next year – how old am I?!?!
Our graduating class was 26 (that was big for our school) and I think only half of us showed up for the 10 year.
purely twins says
how fun! we did not get to attend our high school reunion as we were out of town. but sure would of been fun to catch up with old friends
Lee says
That’s such a fun place for a reunion.
I graduated in 1996. So while I did go to my 10th (which was fun) it was sort of right before facebook opened up to people who were not college students so we actually had no clue what everyone was up to. It was also at a bar.
dukebdc says
Looks like you had a great time! Like others, I have not attended any high school reunions. Mostly because many of my friends were a year ahead of me, and wouldn’t be at my class event. I only have a few people I stay in touch with, and Facebook allows me to keep up with classmates without spending money (and enduring the awkward small talk) to attend the reunion in person. I graduated with a class of 96, and am one of the few who left our hometown.
Mike @ Midwestern Bite says
I couldn’t make it to our 10 year (in 2008), but had a blast at our 5 year. Probably because I was instrumental in organizing perhaps the largest Flip Cup drinking tournament known to man. Can’t wait for the next one!
Liz @ iheartvegetables says
Haha it IS funny how reunions are a little different thanks to Facebook, but it’s still fun to catch up in person! Glad you had a good weekend!
Jessie says
What a fun weekend girl. So happy you & David were able to get out, let loose & enjoy lots of good drinks & food 🙂
If the hubs & I are in the states for our 10th year renunion, we will.

I am graduating high school next year. I can’t believe how fast three years have gone by and I’m gonna be a senior. Any tips for having an awesome senior year? I really want to look back and say that my senior year was the best it could be. I don’t want to go to my reunion hoping I did things differently.
