I feel like I come here every Monday saying Oh what a great weekend! buuuuut yeah, another good one, though quite quiet. Friday was rainy and a perfect night for a movie. At your suggestions, I was set on watching About Time and figured we’d splurge and rent it through Roku for $3. However, when we saw it was $12, I had to pass (until I make a trip to our video store!) and settled on Noah. Eh. Still, it was a relaxing night on the couch.
Good thing too, because Saturday we sat out for a rare adventure for us—the mall. I don’t shop. David doesn’t shop. Therefore we both were in serious need of new shoes and a few staples, so we loaded up the girls and went for it.
It was quite a day. I nursed in dressing rooms, did laps so Kaitlyn could fall asleep and surrendered my kindle to the greater good of our mission. By the end, we were all exhausted and so we stretched out on the mattresses in Macy’s while Kaitlyn finished her nap.
FYI- Tempurpedics for the win.
In the end, it was all incredibly worth it. After organizing my closet and pulling out all that was maternity, I realized I really didn’t have much to work with so I’m so pumped for the fall fashion challenge and my new basics!
I’m also pretty excited about those that signed up with me. Are you ready?! I can’t wait to share some of the looks and help each other out because I’m still not quite sure if I can pull off boyfriend jeans.
After shopping, we dove head first into this plate of jalapenos… er, I mean nachos.
Then set up for football watching on the couch after the girls went down. There were some pretty great games to watch if you’re a college football fan- Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Alabama?!
Sunday I was ready to stick around the house.
Hailey made us breakfast, then she helped David cut the grass while I took Kaitlyn shopping. Food prep and other typical household to-dos followed. I made a big batch of vegetable soup for lunches and a Bolognese sauce for dinner.
I did my best to resist turning on the heat, so we wore hats instead.
Goodness help me when it actually gets cold out.
The stars aligned and I was able to work in a run with Koda. 3.7 miles felt relatively easy in the crisp 60 degree fall air.
And by relatively I mean that I huffed and puffed but didn’t fall down. Isn’t it odd how running can be so hard one day and feel so effortless then next?
We ended the weekend with spaghetti squash and between the cooler temps and all the squash I bought, I’m finally ready to pull out our fall décor.
Because fall certainly has arrived.
And that’s it! About as basic of a weekend as you can get, right?
Which weekends do you prefer- wild and crazy or low key?
What are your favorite fall wardrobe staples?

I signed up to do the all challenge too and am very excited. I love your cream vest – would you mind sharing where you got it? Thanks!
Brittany Dixon says
I got it at J Crew, and I’ll admit, it was a splurge, even at 25% off. I hope to get a lot of wear out of it! –> https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/outerwear/puffer/PRD~B0109/B0109.jsp?Nbrd=J&Nloc=en_US&Nrpp=48&Npge=1&Ntrm=women+vest&isSaleItem=false&color_name=BRIGHT%20IVORY&isFromSearch=true&isNewSearch=true&hash=row0

I got a very similar vest at JCrew factory the other weekend .. think it was $88?
Ellen says
I also am not a shopper, but where did you get the cream colored vest?? Did it come in other colors?
Brittany Dixon says
I got it at J Crew and also comes in navy, black and gold. I will admit, it was a splurge, even at 25% off. I hope to get a lot of wear out of it! –> https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/outerwear/puffer/PRD~B0109/B0109.jsp?Nbrd=J&Nloc=en_US&Nrpp=48&Npge=1&Ntrm=women+vest&isSaleItem=false&color_name=BRIGHT%20IVORY&isFromSearch=true&isNewSearch=true&hash=row0

You are brave to sport ivory with two little kiddos. I’m not nearly as confident! Navy for me 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Brave…. or stupid? 😉 Only time will tell!
Maria says
I love me some cozy fall scarves that I use to accessorize plain long sleeve tees.
Jackie says
I would love it if you could write a blog post on your buys from your fall fashion challenge and where you purchased the items.
Please keep writing! I love your blog. I look forward to reading it every day.

We are all about low key weekends at our house! I am in desperate need of new clothing. I never shop either, and I have a closet full of clothes that I cannot wear like half of.
Since my weight went up with baby and back down, the sizes vary greatly. But I am left with very little to actually wear. My closet needs a major overhaul. I am thinking I am going to have to take a day off work or something to ever get around to it!
Lauren says
I am ALL about hooded zippered jackets in the fall. They used to be so sporty but now they can be really cute!
Tiffany says
Good for you on braving the mall! I’m thinking I may need to do the same thing to get my fall pieces for the challenge. Or…maybe I can convince my husband to watch the girls so I can go shopping myself?? 🙂 That vest is the exact one I was thinking about splurging on! I wanted to get it last year, but couldn’t justify the money, but I’m thinking since I will have several outfit options to wear with it after the challenge, it is worth it now!

I LOVE cosy scarves… all about that! I like cosy weekends, but I also like fun-action packed ones… need to balance them!

About Time is SO, so good. I watched it a few weekends ago when my hubby was gone – total tearjerker!
Danica @ It's Progression says
I think a mix of fun plans and relaxing is my ideal weekend, which was how mine went this weekend so that was great!
I hope you get to watch About Time (for cheaper than $12) soon, it’s honestly one of my absolute favorite movies.

I see you mentioned renting off of your Roku–I have been researching these but hadn’t made a decision yet. Would you recommend one? Pros/cons? What “channels” do you have–Netflix, Hulu+, etc?
Brittany Dixon says
We have really loved our ROKU box, though sometimes it restarts itself which is frustrating. We use Hulu Plus, Netflix and Amazon (we really should cut on of those…) and also use PBS Kids. We also have an antenna so we get all the major networks live.
It’s worked out really well for us- more options to watch than we know what to do with and a lower monthly bill!
jodie says
I prefer a good mix of the two. Maybe 1 or 2 thing planned that aren’t stressful but I don’t like being away from home.

Really excited to what you come up with for the challenge! I plan to go through my closet this weekend and send off another large bag of stuff to Thred Up and sell some stuff on Ebay. I have a load of new clothes coming from Old Navy (for some new basics) and Nordstrom (some fun stuff). One of my favorite trends this fall are kimonos. They look great for layering and will dress up a pair of jeans. Also, a pair of cropped black pants are a fall must for me. I am trying the Pixie ones from Old Navy because they have great reviews.
I had a pair of boyfriends jeans previously and I felt like a slob in them unless I wore heels. And umm, I don’t wear heels more than 5 times a year, so they were donated 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
I’d love to see some of your outfits too! Will you post some? I really need to look into ThredUp too. I’ve heard good things!
Maria says
I’ll definitely share some of my new finds and hope I can wear them soon. It’s still 85 degrees here (our summers come in October!).
Huge fan of Thred Up. Last time I used it, I received $75 for a bunch of clothes that I never touched anymore. I have a lot of old Lululemon stuff I’m giving them this time, so I think I’ll make out pretty well. It’s easy and also exciting to see your things sell online 🙂

It’s always nice to have activities on the weekend from time to time, but I mich prefer the low-key ones, especially with the fall weather. My go to fall wardrobe usually includes an oversized sweater, scarf, skinnys and a pair of boots if I go out. Otherwise you are likely to find me rockin sweats.
Made a big batch of your Veggie lentil soup this weekend

Fall is here, too!! We were going to head to the mall, but Tyler had to work that afternoon and I didn’t want to feel rushed but I really DO need a closet makeover. Love everything you picked up! I’m sure you look pretty in it all! I might partake in one of these style challenges once we move and I have access to the outlet malls!!
I really need to go more meal preps on Sunday like you do!! Sauce and soup sound like such a good idea!
LaToya says
I love a low-key weekend!!!
My fall staples are boots and scarves… leggings and dresses. 🙂 Oh and Cardigans. (I have a lot, huh?)
Matt @ Runner Savvy says
The best kind of weekend 🙂
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Simple weekends are my absolute favorite! And you should check out the Lou & Grey line at Loft. I think you’d like it!
Julie says
You def need to still rent About Time! My bf & I both loved it.
Also, so true about running – sometimes it seems so effortless & other times I die! For me, I think it’s all about the temp outside (50-60’s is optimum for me) & fresh legs!

I am expecting baby #2 this spring, and am looking into double strollers. What is the brand of the stroller you have in the picture in this post? Thank you! I enjoy reading your blog 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Congrats Ann!! It’s a Bumbleride Indie Twin and I’ll be sharing more about it on Friday 🙂
