Post Baby Body: Perspective

by Brittany Dixon on July 17, 2012 · 40 comments

We’ve hit double digits, y’all! Hailey is 10 months old now, which among other things, means I need to start thinking about her first birthday party! Say whaaaaaa??

I’ll get to it, but today I’m focused on another post baby body update: the 10 month version.

post baby body- 10 months postpartum a

I started preparing for this post like any other post baby body update, assembling the camera and tripod in our bedroom to take my body shots. (PS- can I tell you that I’ve had more than a few odd looks when people see our room and discover a tripod set up beside the bed because I’m too lazy to put it up? It’s not what you think, people!)

post baby body- 10 months postpartum b

Snap, snap, snap. Koda looked at me with a disgust, as only a vizsla can, while I ran back and forth snapping self-timed photos.

post baby body- 10 months postpartum c

She seemed to say ‘You’re doing this again?’ Why?’ I don’t blame her; I’m not sure why I’m doing another update either. I don’t look any different. My measurements are almost identical to last month, minus my weight reading 112.5 instead of 112, but on a scale that only measures weight by the half pound, it hardly counts.

I think I’ve reached my body’s happy place. I define this as the place where my body comfortably settles into when I eat well and move, but still leave room for treats (hello Tostitos and Jack’s fresh Salsa!).

I’m still up for challenging myself (and I will in Tina’s new round of bootcamp- registration open until Friday if you want to join in!). However, I don’t really feel the need to track my physical post baby progress in such minute detail.

Now, when I look in the mirror, I see this:

Love Your Body Post Baby because of

So, if only for a day, I challenge you to look in the mirror and say I’m good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me!

Kidding.

…but do take a minute and give yourself credit for one thing that your magnificent body allows you to do today. Yes, your body, the way it is at this very moment. A little self love and appreciation is important and at the risk of sounding like a cheese ball, you’re worth it.

So what do you appreciate about your awesome body?

PS- You have until tonight at 9pm to GO BANANAS for Yonanas Winking smile

Every morning I am thankful for my strong legs that allow me to get up out of bed and carry me through the day.

My son is now 11 months and even though my belly isn’t exactly where I’d like to be I know it went through a lot to bring him here and that in time it will come back.

It is so refreshing to see this kind of attitude! I’ve been so over tracking every minute detail of my body and now love just going by how I feel. Feels so much better this way! And you seriously look awesome!

Brittany, I have been reading your post-baby body posts for a little while now, but never commented before. I had to say something about this one though, because I am so impressed with it, and with you. With this post, you have really put the whole “get your body back after baby” discussion into incredible perspective. You look completely amazing, and have an attitude to match. Hailey is lucky to have such a great mom, and such a wonderful role model for living a healthy (and fun!) lifestyle.

Right now, I appreciate that my body is carrying a little baby. :)

Girl Power! (lol) but seriously, I’m so thankful that my body made a baby and fed the baby for 9 months and counting. I have so much more body confidence since having a baby than I ever did before. It’s crazy because, my tummy is now soft and covered in stretch marks, my boobs are huge, but saggy, and my eyes usually have dark circles from lack of sleep. But, I don’t care! I think I look great. I must have the opposite of body dysmorphic disorder.

I love your perspective–we all need to gain a little thankfulness and positivity! It’s hard to do that sometimes, since media is constantly focusing on what we can make better….I went for a nice run this morning and along the way I thanked God for legs that can take me where I want to go and for an overall healthy body. It feels so good to appreciate what we have!

I love this! We all need this reminder! I have 39 days to go until I meet my baby boy, and I have to say that I have never loved my body more! My big, full, round tummy is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen it. I thank God that He’s given me that perspective during pregnancy, and pray it continues when I’m tryin to shed the baby weight. Thank you for this post- you are amazing!

What a great post, Brittany! I love your thoughts about yourself- beautiful indeed! And, you look beautiful! Hilarious about being too lazy to take down the tripod- reminds me of The Office- and also makes me laugh ’cause I am the same way. If I know I’m going to use something again soon, why put it away? :)

This post literally made me cry a little when I was reading your comments on your photo… I just had my bambino two months ago and have caught myself on more than one occasion catching myself loathing my self image. I have to remind myself that I carried my little miracle and love my body for it more often. Thanks for always being honest and sharing your journey!

About a week or so ago I did my first ever handstand. And yesterday, I did more than a dozen. Not only is that a cool trick, but it also means that I’m learning to trust my body, mainly my arms’ ability to stay straight under my body weight and not drop me on my head. And all of this while I’m sporting a couple of layers of stitches in my arm. Yeah, my body’s pretty dang awesome.
And I absolutely LOVE your body appreciation picture. It’s all so perfect and true.
