You know what I detest after a weekend away? Laundry. You know what I absolutely love? Restocking the fridge! Something about a clean slate to start from gets me excited to load it up with fresh, healthy foods.
Did I totally just give away that I’m an old fuddy-duddy or what?
…If not, I just said fuddy-duddy which more than confirms it.
Anywho (keeping with the fuddy-duddy theme here)… I was psyched to go load up on the good stuff, but just to guarantee I started the week off on a healthy foot, I hit up the gym first for this AMRAP.
My friend Jen puts together some of my favorite workouts and this one kicked my out-of-shape bootay. It was awesome and even better because I can feel it today. Then we were off to load up on veggies at Josh’s.
Hailey is in a notebook phase right now and I think it’s pretty dang adorable (don’t I always). She carries around her “list book” and a pen, asking me what we need to get, then writing some scribble and H’s down on paper. The best part? It keeps her occupied while I buy all the veggies.
and figs!
After some unloading and sorting, my fridge was happy and full.
Post nap time was spent on the swing set until Hailey offered to help me with dinner prep.
Please don’t call child services. It’s a butter knife. And I was right beside her. And she impressed me like WOAH. Taking the ends off green beans kept her focused for about 20 minutes, time enough for me to take care of the rest of the prep work and she was SO proud of herself afterwards. Especially when she helped me cook the beans for her dinner.
It was one of those pat-yourself-on-the-back parenting moments which are nice to have, especially when I look back at the pictures and realize I forgot to brush her hair all day. Food > Appearance.
With a full fridge, dinner grilled up nicely.
And somehow by the time we ate and cleaned up, it was 9:15. Where does the day go?
What is you least favorite task after returning from a weekend away?
Favorite in season produce right now? I can’t get enough rainbow chard- SO beautiful!
Heather says
I hate doing the laundry as well. Zucchini is my favorite vegetable during the summer!
Also, I had a question about what Hailey is standing on while cutting up the green beans. It looks like some sort of ladder, but more steady with a back.
Brittany Dixon says
It’s a stand that David built with an adjustable floor and rails to keep her in. We use it daily!
Karen says
Worst task is actually the travel home. I dont enjoy coming home ever, although I love my home, I do not like the state it is located in. I live and work from home, so being away is so wonderful for me. As far as the state it is located in, we are working on that as we speak:)
Favorite veggie right now would be zucchini or tomatoes….hard choice.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh, I’m intrigued! Where might you be considering?!
Jenny says
Josh’s market is the best! So glad we have a local farmer’s market in Mooresville.
My least favorite task after returning from a trip would have to be unpacking!
Brittany Dixon says
Ah, don’t you just love Josh’s?! That and Davidson’s Farmers Market make me so happy 🙂
Karen says
Somewhere warm. Arizona, N/S Carolina, Tennessee….
We are planning a trip to Arizona in the coming months to go check it out.
I have had it with the COLDDDDD winters here.
Although, hubby would still like to see snow a few times, so we have not totally agreed yet!
Time will tell…my thoughts are….happy wife happy life:)
Jaclyn @ BumpSweat says
Her carrying that little notebook around is adorable! Speaking of, my least-favorite task after being away is meal-planning, probably because my brain’s usually tired and my body hungry, making me not in a mood to think creatively about food and cooking.
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
We’re opposites on the “return from vacation” front. I don’t mind doing laundry. But my fridge needs an overhaul. I like how EMPTY your fridge looks while you’re on vacation. That can be a new improvement tip for me: empty fridge BEFORE going on vacation! Ha!
Marjorie says
I detest unpacking and laundry! Also the trip home always wears me down too. I am not sure what it is about sitting in a car for 5 hours that wears me out?! I am talking specifically about the drive to/from my parents’ house in Destin, FL. That is the main place we travel to. But it wears me out every time.
Favorite in-season produce? How can I pick just one?! Watermelon, peaches and tomatoes are all hits at our household as of late.
Kathy says
Two thumbs up to you! My least favorite is probably both laundry and meal planning. 🙂 however, laundry is always there! My fave produce now is probably corn on the cob and tomatoes! YUM!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my goodness, yes! Summer corn is unbelievably good!
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables says
I love a fully stocked fridge! I think you and I were on the same page today. I can’t wait for Baby D to be able to help me in the kitchen!!
Presley @ Run Pretty says
Maddux is getting into cooking now and I LOVE IT. There is nothing cuter than pure concentration on a toddler’s face. Nothing.
jen says
yay for getting back to more intense workouts! thanks so much for sharing my AMRAP workout and for the kind words about my workouts! i will get some new ones going here soon! 🙂
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Hands down it’s unpacking, doing laundry, folding laundry, and putting it all away! I dread it!
And OMG I love the H carries around a notebook – so cute!!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
That workout looks intense!! Like I’m pretty sure I would be lying on the ground afterwards! 😉
Kristi @ Inspiration Kitchen says
Whoa. If only my fridge looked that clean! I have so much stuff in there, I’m afraid the camera would be to scared to photograph it. 🙂 And you know what? Maybe I’m weird, but I love doing laundry! Everything goes in dirty but comes out so fresh and clean! 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Ugh, I’m totally with you on the laundry!!! I hate unpacking in general! But yes, loading up the fridge is always fun. It’s so refreshing to have a packed refrigerator full of fresh and healthy foods. I’m curious – how do you cook/prepare rainbow chard?
Kelli says
I have a question is it 7 min per exercise or 7 per each group of 3? Thanks!’
Brittany Dixon says
7 minutes per group of three! 🙂
Lauren says
Aww I wish we were neighbors-I think you’d be fabulous to hang out with and H and my daughter seem like they’d be great buds! I just posted a pic on insta today of C with bed head and cutting up watermelon with her little kid knife, and also, she loves to play Drs. office where she asks questions and scribbles notes on her paper and tiny clipboard 🙂 I love the idea of taking a notepad with to the grocery store-totally going to do that!
Danielle says
I must be a fuddy-duddy with you then because I love cleaning out and organizing the fridge. It seriously makes me smile to see all of the healthy foods ready for us to eat!
I love the pic of your daughter helping in the kitchen. I may have to try having my daughter help out with beans, too! She LOVES helping us cook and usually mixes when we bake. We’ve been on a plantain kick lately and she is so patient with peeling them apart to put on the baking sheet after we’ve added the coconut oil. They are capable of so much more than we think, aren’t they?
xo,
Danielle
Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength says
I love coming home and restocking and food prepping for a healthy week ahead. Although, I have to admit, I only love it when we come home early enough that I have time to do it and don’t have to rush around like a crazy person on Sun night. We are def old.
Jessica @ Absurd, She Wrote says
That was me, walking around with a little notebook!
I really don’t like restocking the fridge after a trip. I want there to just *be* fresh groceries waiting. There never are.
Matt @ Runner Savvy says
I hate unpacking after a trip! I normally keep my stuff in my suitcase and “unpack” as I need it.
Meg says
I’m not a fan of laundry any time!! The folding and putting away is the worst. My favorite summer veggie is sweet corn and fruit would have to be watermelon! My daughter has been using a real pairing knife since she was 3 1/2 (Montessori school). Children helping in the kitchen is a great way to get them to eat more things. They will usually eat anything they make!
Laura @FitMamaLove says
I love so many things about this post! Kicking off post-vacation mode with an awesome workout is the best! The notebook thing is adorable and I love how you get Hailey involved in the kitchen much like I do with my kids. 🙂
char eats greens says
That’s SO awesome she helped you in the kitchen! Can’t wait for Nia to do that!! I dread vacuuming, probably because it was a main chore I had to do growing up. But sadly, I do have to vacuum today haha!
