This summer will certainly go down as a good one, as we’ve had so many visitors come and help pack it with fun! This past weekend followed suit, but it first started out Friday morning, with my WCCB segment on healthy road trip snacks.
I always have a few nerves beforehand, but it went well enough and once it was over, I was ready to fully embrace the weekend! David’s parents had arrived Thursday night and on Friday we decided to mix things up. We got a sitter and took the boat to dinner at The Blue Parrot.
It was great to have some adult time on the water and enjoy a whole dinner’s worth of uninterrupted conversation. It was a beautiful summer evening and a boat ride home at night always is exciting.
Saturday morning we hit up the farmers market to prepare for a fun crowd headed our way…
David’s brother and his family ended up coming in town too! It’s always so much fun to get the the crew together.
As soon as we downed lunch and most of the rain passed, we loaded up and headed out to play.
All the kids (Mema included) had a blast!
That evening will grilled up burgers, sipped wine and chatted while the kids settled in for a movie.
We sat outside until way past my bedtime, but that’s what summer nights are for. We spent the morning splashing in the lake and I was impressed at how well Hailey was able to hang with her older cousins. She’s getting so much more brave with jumping in the water and rough housing, which is a lot of fun.
Eventually everyone had to hose off and head out, but I loved how much fun we packed into those 24 hours. I just love getting to spend time with family!
Sunday afternoon Hailey and David got caught in a flash summer storm
so we ended up just playing around the house (my favorite game- NAP when Hailey pretends to be mommy and makes me snuggle under a blanket… oh twist my arm).
We ended the night with a documentary on US secrets that was so-so and some veggie-packed fajitas that were fantastic.
Then early to bed, because today starts another week!
How was your weekend?
Any documentary recommendations?
I’m always looking for good ones!

This summer has been fantastic! I’ve been enjoying summer activities, fresh food and lots of fun with family and friends. Now if I can only convince my husband to get a boat!

Mention a used pontoon to him! That’s what we have- reasonably priced and like a floating play pen fo the little ones 😉 Glad you had a great weekend and summer!

What a gorgeous time you all had! I love the photo of daddy and daughter caught in the rain 🙂 there is a French film/documentary called “to be and to have”. It’s all about this tiny school in the French countryside with this amazing teacher. Very simple. Very beautiful.

I’d recommend Fed Up as a documentary but I know you already watched it! 🙂 I’m obsessed with all those foodie ones, Food Inc, Forks Over Knives, etc!
Brittany Dixon says
I still haven’t seen Food Inc because I’m terrified I’d never want to eat meat again- even the good stuff that we bought from our farmer friend!

What a fun weekend! Our Saturday was great – aquarium and then dinner with Grandma – but Sunday the baby was sick all day! No fun.
Brittany Dixon says
Aw, glad you managed to get some fun in before the germs hit. Hope Ryan is feeling better today <3

Those fajitas look so yummy! We started our weekend off with crazy storms and a small tornado nearby, a birthday party for our nephew, and lots of outside fun.
Brittany Dixon says
oh yikes tornadoes!! We haven’t had any around us yet this year and I’m so grateful. I love a good thunderstorm, but the twisters freak me out!

Oh, that looks like a fun weekend! I love being out on the lake! We spent the weekend getting our home ready to sell and (praise the Lord) got an offer first thing yesterday! Woohoo!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my gosh that is amazing news!! Selling a home is so stressful and getting an offer that quickly is just so great. Hope it all works out!!

Three generations on a boat? Seems like no better way to spend a weekend! My small town in CT where I grew up had their Summer Festival this weekend, 70s-themed for the first time (think Gilmore Girls but a little less zany, we only do a few festivals per year).

This looks like the perfect summer weekend! How fun to have your girls growing up with a boat on a lake! Lake fun is the best! I soooo miss the warm summer downpours of the east coast. I used to love running out in the pouring rain as a kid. Plus, my curly hair looks awesome when it’s rain-drenched. Just not so much when it dries, lol!

That watermelon looks delicious. I am trying impatiently to wait for our garden watermelons to be ripe enough to pick and eat!

That pic of H flying in the air made my day! So fun!
Food Inc. is a documentary I always recommend to people. I get that these types of films are biased and can be one sided, but even if 30% of what was shown is true, well something needs to change! I literally cried my way through it.
