I’m a little late on posting today (I’m sorry; I know you’ve been out of your mind with worry as to where I was) because I switched over to a SECURE site! See that little https in the url? Apparently it’s a big deal and I am grateful for the wonderful people that help me with my site so I don’t have to learn a thing about it. Technology, despite being a a blogger, isn’t really my thing. Moving on…
On Thursday I got a text from a friend inviting us to join them for a quick Labor day mountain getaway. The mountains speak to me and I felt a flutter of excitement for a minute before I considered how telling David about this overnight jaunt would go. I’m pretty sure he would immediately file for divorce, so using my better judgement, I decided we’d have to pass in favor of a low-key weekend at home.
I don’t mind being on the go fairly often, but I must remember, I’m home ALL week long. Since we’ve traveled or hosted people 6 out of the past 6 weekends, and with his crazy weeks with work lately, it hasn’t left much chill time at home for David. Understandably, his request for the weekend was a whole lot of nothing. So nothing we did.
Well, that’s not quite true, but no travel. On Friday we attended a luau to celebrate a friend who has now been cancer free for an entire year!
A worthy cake design for a worthy cause, right?!
I offered to bring pineapple salsa and was lucky to get through it with all my fingers still in tact.
Still, I was pleased with the result!
It rained cats and dogs that night, which made for a funny shoe pile at her front door, but didn’t do a thing to damper the celebration.
Saturday morning the whole family made our way to Burn Bootcamp’s Back to School bash. It consisted first of a family workout, which was totally insane given there must have been 150 bodies in the room. Trainers Daniel and Jake handled the crowds like pros and we all broke a sweat and had a ball.
Hailey loved it and left asking if she could do “burning” bootcamp again soon. Afterwards there was a DJ, a bounce house, snow cones, and even a dunk tank. Kaitlyn and Hailey both helped me seek revenge on those tough trainers of ours!
After a stop by Josh’s Farmers Market and a long shower, I passed out cold on the couch. While I was gone David took the girls to Lowe’s (he’s been working on a router issue all weekend) and I enjoyed an hour nap and a cup of afternoon coffee (#thisis33) in glorious solitude.
The late afternoon consisted of football, just the way I love a fall Saturday.
The dawgs beat out App state and I got a good night’s sleep. #Winning all around.
Sunday was project day. A lot of cleaning up, but David also wired and fixed the router and I cleaned out and organized my spices. The girls did their chores and by 2:00, we managed to knock out most of our to do list.
It left the afternoon open for a little play so we took off on ye ‘ol pontoon.
We cruised around and sipped a few beers before returning home to grill out and goof off.
The weather was phenomenal so we stretched the evening out a little later than we intended to since we couldn’t forsake an end-of-summer dessert.
Tip: when grilling peaches, select the more firm option. It softens up beautifully on the grill! The more ripe ones will turn into mush.
The girls asked for a slumber party and we figured why not. And for the first time ever on our home turf, they successfully went to sleep in the same room before 8:00!
Amazing!! This is huge progress for us and Kaitlyn was so proud when she woke up in the morning. “mom-mom (what she calls me now and I love it) I sheep all nigh long!”
PS- Hailey inherited my love for seasonal decorations and yes, all our fall stuff is now out. Not sorry.
Today has been about hanging out, playing in the backyard (more on my instagram stories), and getting things finalized. SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW!!!
And just like that, that’s (an unofficial) wrap on summer!
Not a La Croix ad.
But it should be.
Hope you guys had a great weekend!

Looks like a wonderful Dixon weekend – as it was for the Stathas family. Adorable pics of the girls. Good luck with home schooling tomorrow and after.

I have to remind myself to make sure my husband gets chill time at home on the weekends too, it can be hard to remember when you’ve been home all week! I have the best memories of having slumber parties in my sister’s room when I was little, so sweet 🙂

Your weekend at home looked great–but I’m confused–why would your hubby be so upset about going to the mountains? Not ideal situation, or what? Too spontaneous? You’re a good wife!! Good luck with homeschooling starting today!

He’s just been on the go way too much and needed some down time! Sometimes I forget that he’s not home as much as I am 🙂
