No, not the president, though I do think he is a pretty great guy. (Nothing like a little political controversy to get you going in the morning, huh? More exhilarating than coffee!!)
Today’s post is brought to you by the letter ‘W’ with the questions ‘where’ ‘what’ and ‘why’ 🙂
Where did I go yesterday?
The Mooresville library. It is really nice! And did you know that they let you take books for FREE? I guess I can start saving a few bucks that I usually dish out at Barnes and Noble.
Why was I there?
Because I finally had to read this book. It’s been recommended to me a billion times and I’m so excited to finally have my hands on it. Once I dig in, I’ll share some of the studies, interesting points and my personal take on it. I’ve heard fabulous things. Have you read this?
Why did it take me so long to start adding fruit into my salads at home?
I have no idea, but this salad is killer. Mixed greens with spinach, red peppers, walnuts, blueberries, celery and goat cheese. If that’s not a powerhouse of nutrients, I don’t know what is! I’ve been eating them several times each week. Drool.
What is on my ‘must try’ list?
Chia seeds! I know, I’m late to the party, but I’ve had trouble finding them. But did you know that their shells are easily digestible, unlike flaxseed, which must be ground up to reap their nutrient benefits? They provide omega 3’s, antioxidants, protein and calcium, and they are rich in boron, which helps your body use the calcium. Pretty impressive for a little seed. Cha-cha-cha- CHIA!
What was that other brand of natural bacon I was talking about?
Hormel! I actually prefer this brand to Applegate Farms in the bacon category. Hormel is heartier and gets crispier than the Applegate Farm variety. Personal preference.
Why is my post late?
Early clients! But I’m not complaining 🙂 In fact, I’m enjoying the new Whole Grain Breakfast Power Sandwich (quite a name, no?) from Panera by blogging next to the fire. This new sandwich is 330 calories, 14 g fat, 31 g carbs and 22 g protein and is pretty tasty. I actually ended up taking the ham off and it was still yummy!
Happy Wednesday!

I love adding pineapple and strawberries to my salads, but then again I have always been a fruit over veggie girl! I try to eat my greens though!
p.s. Have you read W.’s new book? I’m thinking about reading it myself.

I’m so excited you are reading The China Study. It’s not easy reading, but there is a lot of interesting information in there. By the way, the salad looks amazing!

Totally agree – fruit in salads (especially berries and citrus fruits) are amazing! I just bought chia seeds for the first time a couple of months ago and I’ve fallen in love – they totally change the texture of oatmeal, smoothies, baked goods…they are one of my new favorites!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
That Panera sandwich made Health magazine’s list for top healthiest fast food breakfasts. 🙂 I had one last year and I enjoyed it…I remember it being very small, though.

That sandwich does look yummy! And I love the library. So helpful. Now, if only I had time to read again. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the book.

I love reading your blog and seeing your photos and going “I know where that is!” So is that the XL print version of China Study, because I’ve had my hands on that same exact copy. I only made a few chapters in before I had to return it though. So I’m next after you! Had fun at lunch today! Can’t wait to hang out again!
