With 10 days to Christmas, I’m mostly focused on going slowly, leaving some to-dos for a later date and enjoying this time of year that always seems to fly by entirely too quickly. This weekend we did just that. So as a different kind of weekend wrap up, here are 10 things we made this weekend…
1. S’mores. A holiday staple for sure. Friday night we did bath (mistake to do this pre-dessert by the way) and put Kaitlyn down, then David took Hailey outside to find the perfect stick. He showed her how to whittle it and then what she could use it for: ooey gooey marshmallow goodness!
Side note: an after-bath sugar rush makes for a later bedtime.
2. A dent in my book. I’ve needed a book for a long time to reignite my love for reading. Since I usually go for books I can learn something from, I finally forced myself to deviate and chose The Light Between Oceans. I’m really enjoying it and I find myself trying to fit in reading whenever I can, which isn’t all that often. However, on Saturday afternoon it was 60 degrees, so David and I kicked our feet up during nap time and soaked it in.
3. Banana Pancake Bites. Adding a sliced banana and cutting them into pizza slices proved to be a hit with the three year old crowd. I can see why- have you ever caramelized a banana? If not, stop what you are doing and go try it now. I’ll wait.
4. Kaitlyn an official family member. Poor second child. It took almost 7 months to get her name painted and hung up. Still, it looks pretty cute now in her neutral, nature-themed nursery.
5. The Olympic gymnastic team! Ok, not quite yet.
6. A trip to the grocery store.
7. An upgrade to our charging station. David switched out the regular outlet for a USB version. For some reason this made his day?
8. Vegetable soup. Steamed butternut squash. Boiled eggs.
And salad dressing. I’m really trying to make more of my own and really like this mixture of walnut oil, apple cider vinegar, agave and salt.
9. My child have nightmares. What is it about Santa that terrorizes young children? Oh… the fact that it’s an older stranger that sneaks into their house while they are sleeping? Gotcha.
10. An elf zipline.
And as a bonus, we made a Christmas memory that remained un-photgraphed, but etched in my mind. Last night we bathed the girls and put them in jammies. Then we loaded up in the car with hot (warm) chocolate and drove around to look at Christmas lights. Our neighborhood also does luminaries, so with those lit, it felt magical. Hailey shouted Merry Christmas to people out the window and pointed out every ‘icestickle’ she saw. David told her that just last year she called snowmen “no-somes” and I was again reminded how quickly time flies.
Mission “soak it up” is set to continue this week. Time to wrap some presents!
Did you make anything fun this weekend?
Food, crafts, memories?
irene says
omg Kaitlyn’s face is priceless!
John J. says
Those are some great “soakemups”! Way to enjoy the holiday season.

Oh what a fantastic weekend! I love that it includes family and you time. Driving around looking at lights is one of my favorite memories as a child that I’m trilled to start as a tradition with my new family!
Joanna @Makingmine says
I love this post! I thought it was going to be 10 different Christmas cookies haha! Seeing your family roast marshmallows makes me want to get our fireplace fixed – how fun!
Brittany Dixon says
10 kinds of cookies?! Haha! You clearly give me way to much credit 🙂 I was lucky to crank one batch out this year.
Ashley says
too funny! Ryan is getting some new USB outlets for Christmas as a surprise – the sad part is that he’ll be super excited! Men. 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Oh man, boys and their toys! I always laugh at how excited gets over gadgets.
Marjorie @APinchOfHealthy says
Aw, I LOVE this! Such sweet memories you are making. 🙂
We made Christmas cookies this weekend, and it was fun but a HUGE mess.
Jen says
That Santa picture is PRICELESS!!!!
We enjoyed the warm weather and took the babe on a few walks, which was lovely. Christmas is pretty low key for us this year, but I do plan on making some cookies today for the mom group I attend (since we’re having our party this week).
Lv @ Healthy Liv says
Haha Kaitlyn’s face in the Santa picture is priceless! Love that y’all made indoor s’mores– what a fun tradition. And the elf hipline is the most creative elf arrangement I’ve seen yet.
I made lots of fun Christmas treats this weekend!
Katie says
That photo is christmas card worthy!!!
Brittany Dixon says
I’m sure it will terrorize her for years to come 😉 Sweet thing is so easy going but she was not having it with Santa ha!
Lauren says
I love our USB outlet! It basically saves my life (and phone’s life) on a daily basis!
LaToya says
I made Corn and Black Bean Salad…. and a promise to myself to begin working out with my husband this week!
Love your pics!

LOL at Kaitlyn’s face in that santa pic.
Laura @FItMamaLove says
Sounds like a fun holiday weekend! I made very little of anything this week!
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
I love this collection of things you “made” this weekend, both tangible and intangible. We played in the snow on Sunday and with a newborn in the house,we spent all weekend taking waaay too many pictures!
Paulina says
We drove around and looked at Christmas lights last week. It was nice to slow down and enjoy the season. The to-do list can wait a little bit.
Christy @TheMuddyApron says
Traditions with your kids are the best.
My hubs and I started last year on Christmas Eve. We go to Krispy Kreme and eat sugary donuts while we look at the lights. Some neighborhoods even have hot chocolate out with Christmas music. So much fun.

I can’t show that outlet to my husband because he will be ripping out our kitchen outlets, haha.
Love the banana pancake idea!
Alex @ get big, go to work says
What a great reminder to soak it all up and enjoy the little things. Those are the ones we remember! We had a really nice weekend as well. We made your veggie lentil soup for the week and enjoyed a really nice family dinner with my dad and brother! Always a good reminder to slow down and really focus on those quality moments.
Jodi says
Love the pictures!! Looks like a fabulous weekend!! I made Cranberry and mint gin martinis Saturday nite! Yum! Totally festive and totally going to be made again…
jodi says
Weird! Somehow the other half of my comment disappeared! I also said we made the peanut butter/oatmeal cookies that you posted last week. This morning Emmy ran to the kitchen, pulled a chair up to the counter and pointed to them until I caved. I figured oatmeal/peanut butter/eggs are all great breakfast foods right??? (minus the sugar and chocolate… ooops…)
TAnya says
Kaitlin’s face just made me snort hot chocolate out of my nose!
Lauren says
What a fun weekend! After c made peanut butter blossoms with my mom and loved unwrapping all the kisses, we made the pretzel kisses with m&ms this weekend, and I have to say, that was such an easy treat to make with a toddler! She could basically do it all by herself if she wanted to (except for the oven part ha).
Julie says
OMG that pic of the girls w/ Santa is HILARIOUS!!! Best ever! The ones w/ the older kid smiling sweetly & the younger one blowing a gasket are the BEST!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Your charging station is genius!! Also… I never thought I would want a fireplace, but for the sole possibility of being able to roast marshmallows in it… yeah I might have to change my mind 😉
Karen says
OMG she looks terrified in that picture LOL
Maria says
Despite not having children, we also made Saturday night our Christmas Lights Viewing Night. We had a friend tag long, went to dinner, got some hot tea and cookies and drove all around. I love making traditions and I’m sure its even more fun when you have kids!
I’m sorry for laughing at K’s expense, but that photo of Santa is hilarious. Especially comparing the two girls’ reactions 🙂
Shari says
Aww, it sounds like a truly magical weekend! 🙂
Matt says
Love the pancake bites idea!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
What a great weekend! Love the bonus! We didn’t “celebrate” Christmas growing up but most of my favorite childhood memories are from that time. I remember being with family and just enjoying e/o’s company.
Jo says
Fun post! Sounds like you guys had a great weekend. I have never heard of s’mores as a holiday treat before. Around here they are summertime thing!
Sherry says
So many wonderful memories y’all are creating. Love the Santa picture and the elf zip line!

And seriously, my second child will be doomed because I barely get around to doing those kinds of things for Nia, so the second one won’t even stand a chance haha!
I’m taking Nia to gymnastics for the first time ever tomorrow!!
We have the USB chargers in our kitchen, but they’re hidden in the corner, which is right behind my stand mixer so I never think to use them!!
Sounds like it was a good weekend (minus the crying from Santa haha)
Elizabeth says
Must try those pancakes. That book is becoming a movie this year
