LOVING– I totally overslept this morning. Usually I’d file this under things I’m not loving, but mannnnn it felt good to stay in bed to 6:45. On that note, isn’t it funny how the definition of sleeping in changes as we grow up?
NOT LOVING– Avocado in the salad jars. I told y’all I’d report back and in my experience this week, the avocado failed. When I poured the salad out, the avocado was brownish and just didn’t look appetizing. Also, I realized I’m not a fan of creamy dressings for the jar.
LOVING– Fall recipes. How amazing does this butternut squash risotto look?!
LOVING– This simple tip for kids!
NOT LOVING– I made it to the gym yesterday! That, I actually love because it had been weeks. But I had visions of running 4 miles in my head, then realized at 2.75 that I had reached my limit. Guess I can’t blame pushing a double stroller as holding me back. Ha. (Awkward gym selfie because rule #497 of social media addiction says if you didn’t snap a picture, it didn’t happen)
LOVING– T. Swizzles’ Shake It Off song. Now that I have daughters I really like her. Such a good teen role model (if you go the pop star route).
NOT LOVING– My sense of style. I fully admit I need help, so I’m trying something a little out of my comfort zone. Style Me Pretty is hosting a 30 day style challenge and I signed up yesterday. It’s only $30 and will offer style advice, a full 21 days of outfits combos and more. I hope to share some pictures on here of what the outfits look like on me and get y’all to weigh in on if I can pull things off or not (I’m looking at you scarves!). If you are interested in joining in, too, click here (referral link) for more info.
LOVING- That Kaitlyn is now officially taking a bottle!!! This is life changing. What worked for us is consistency, lots of practice and the Calma nipple.
NOT LOVING– That movie theater movies are a thing of the past. I really want to go see Gone Girl, but it’s hard to justify paying a sitter to go spend a couple hours at a theater, especially when David doesn’t really like going to movies. I know, I know, #firstworldproblems, so with rain heading this way I’m thinking a movie night at home is in order…
Any great rental movies out that you’d recommend?
What’s your favorite movie of all time?
David’s is Captain Ron and if I don’t come up with an alternative, I’ll be watching that again tonight.
HELP!

My husband and I just rented Saving Mr. Banks (Redbox) and really liked it! It was a little sad so you may want to watch an episode of Friends afterwards if you choose to rent it haha. My all time favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber! 🙂

Movie theaters have just become a negative experience the last half-decade or so… everyone texts on their cell phones or talks on the, or doesn’t shut them off. They talk out loud… maybe I’m just old, but it is so distracting when you’re trying to watch a movie that you paid the equivelant to a month’s car payment to see!
My all-time favorite movie is probably still The Crow. Before Sunrise is a close second… I’m dying to see Before Midnight, but haven’t had a chance, yet!

I love Anne of Green Gables, Little Women etc. but doubtful David would be interested just like my husband. 🙂 But when your girls get older hopefully they can enjoy those with you along with some good Little House on the Prairie. 🙂 But as a family we love James Bond–Skyfall. Action packed and Daniel Craig is certainly easy to watch. 😉
Have a great weekend!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my gosh I loved Little House on the Prairie growing up!
And great suggestion- we love James Bond movies too!

I’ll have to ask jayson about the rentals! He literally has rented every movie at family video ( even the ones no one has heard of…) that’s his way of unwinding late at night, I typically fall asleep and never make it through any movie…. But we are sucking it up tonight and paying a sitter to go see gone girl. I know, painful price to pay, but he’s gone All next week, so this is our date nite! ( at least that’s how we justify the price tag!!) 🙂
Ashley says
About Time! (The movie…) Seriously the most underrated movie I’ve seen in a long time (and we rent a lot these days…). From the creators of Love Actually. Lots of dry British humor – but seriously – I laughed, I cried, I cherished my loved ones more than ever.
Brittany Dixon says
You had me at Love Actually! Did Ryan like it too? I just have to work on convincing him of a rom com because in totally on board! Thanks 🙂
Ashley says
Ryan (and his 25 year old brother and dad) liked it too! I wouldn’t say they loved it as much as I did (I would say it’s a top 3 favorite movie of mine) – but they thought it was really funny and good. It’s a nice mix of funny and thoughtful… Ryan’s normal taste in movies involves Will Smith, 300, or Fast and Furious movies – so the fact that he thought it was “pretty good” says a lot. Do it!

Agree, About Time is such a lovely movie!

That risotto DOES look good, and risotto is one of the hardest things to make look good! Kudos to that chef! I am also loving shake it off, definitely a good song….although not a big fan of her!
I am actually the opposite with movies right now, Steve LOVES going because he loves putting a years worth of butter on his popcorn. I could take him to any movie and he would be happy because he has his popcorn. I guess I should be more grateful! I haven’t seen rental movies recently, so I am no help!

I’m loving that it’s Friday!!

O no, I’m sorry for posting a second message but everything I typed in my first one seems to have been deleted when I hit post.
Putting avocado in my salads well in advance hasn’t been working for me either this week. Too brown and “blah” tasting.
Great job on your workout yesterday. Some miles are better than none. Great accomplishment!
Divergent is a recent movie I watched. Fast paced, female lead and entertaining. Definitely recommend.
Check out the Kentucky frats spoof of the Shake It Off video. Sooo entertaining!!
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve tried googling it and can’t find the video! If you have the link will you send it to me? Thanks 🙂

I just watched a cute movie with my boyfriend last night called Serendipity! Its christmas-sy and romantic!!
Renee @ Bendiful Blog says
Serendipity is one of my favorite movies of all time! So NYC
Tammi @Momma's Meals says
I LOVE movies. My husband usually falls asleep 20 min so normally I get to choose however last weeks Date night consisted of “Blended” with Adam Sandler. I thought it was a cute movie and he did watch the whole thing. Where I live we have a movie theatre called Chunky’s. It plays movies, you sit at tables with really large seats taken from a Lincoln. You order dinner and even a bottle of wine if you choose. Those are the only movies we go to these days! 🙂
Colleen C says
Now that she takes a bottle … Go to the movies with a girlfriend! Or alone! (Gasp, imagine being alone with a bag of popcorn?!)
Brittany Dixon says
Just talked to a friend this morning about setting a movie date- wahoo!
Bring on the popcorn! 😉
Rosey Rebecca says
Haha I love the social media addiction rule. 2.75 miles is still pretty awesome. I think you need to categorize that under ‘Loving.’ I love risotto and that one looks awesome and the shoe trick is pretty clever. Will have to remember that for the future! Happy Friday!

We watched ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ the other night and it was pretty good. It’s funny you said the movie thing because just last night Tyler said we should go to the movies soon! I really need to get to the gym because I need some ME time. Or, the hot yoga studio.
austin says
My husband and I have watched Hunger Games and Divergent movies lately. He didn’t read the books and he liked both of the movies a lot.
Courtney says
We watched Dallas Buyers Club at home this past weekend and it was great!!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I really want to go see Gone Girl too! The previews make it look sooo good!
Have you seen The Fault in Our Stars yet? Great movie…but fair warning – it’s a tearjerker!
Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says
I hear you on the movies! I also hate that they are so expensive nowadays. We have a sitter for Sunday afternoon so we can see a “Gone Girl” matinee, and it will eat our entertainment budget for the weekend. We rarely see movies for that reason – my husband and I can’t even remember the last movie we saw together in a theater.
We are watching “The Following” on Netflix. It’s not a rental or a movie so to speak but we’re really enjoying it. We prefer to get hooked on shows on Netflix since our 3-year-old has quite the bedtime antics, and I’m too tired to stay up to watch a whole movie. #firsttrimesterwoes
Christine says
I want to see Gone Girl too!! I read the book and loved it! But at 35 weeks pregnant I don’t know if I really want to sit in a movie theater. Hopefully it comes to On Demand while I’m on maternity leave! My favorite movie of all time is National Lampoons Christmas Vacation!
Jen says
Blended was so funny!! A great movie to watch.
Colette says
Lol, I’m totally trying to figure out how to get to the movies to see Gone Girl too! Not easy with a 3wk old! Plus I’m afraid I might fall asleep and miss the whole thing anyway. #momproblems
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
So excited to hear you’re joining in the Style Me Pretty Challenge! You could totally pull off scarves! They’re one of my favorite accessories actually. They can instantly add so much to a plain tee. 😉
I’m excited to see Gone Girl too, and I totally understand having a hard time paying a sitter to go spend more money on watching a movie. We wait until a lot of them are out on video these days for that very reason. We rented Divergent a couple weekends ago – I loved it! I also heard Moms’ Night Out is cute, but I haven’t seen it yet.
Brittany Dixon says
I tried to link to you since you shared it with me and once I posted my draft to wordpress, I couldn’t hyperlink? Long story short, I’m having tech issues with wordpress but what’s new… Thanks for sharing it with me!!
Jen says
We just watched Fed Up – the documentary. Not exactly a “fun” movie but we both enjoyed it.
Brittany Dixon says
That’s on my list to watch for sure! ‘Ive heard great things!
Lee says
My style is severely lacking. I’m thinking about signing up for that service.
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I really want to see Gone Girl too! I think we’ll make it happen though. AhhhH! I can’t agree with you on Tswift. I can’t stand her anymore. Loved when she was a country singer and not a pop singer.
Tiffany says
I just signed up for the Fall Style Challenge too! I need an overhaul in my wardrobe and ideas since it’s been awhile since I’ve worn normal Fall clothes since last year I was wearing maternity! Can’t wait to see the outfit ideas! I also love that sticker idea for left and right shoes. I need to try that as my 3yr old has trouble with that!!
Renee @ Bendiful Blog says
The sticker idea is cute! How did I not ever think of that with my boys? Awkward gym selfies are always a must! Movie I have been watching old school I watched Tommy Boy last week and laughed my goofy face off.
Lisa O says
Hi Brittany, I miss movies too! But i miss solid sleep more with my beautiful newborn only 4 weeks old! I love your blog as the age gap between my number one Stella and number two Archie is the same as your girls! Thank you times a million for your posts which help me so much (oh and ps I was 2 weeks over with both too… Aargh!).
So here’s a hot tip for you! Please rent “Chef” it’s absolutely gorgeous, such a feel good movie perfect for a foodie!
Hope you have a fab in-house movie night xx
Julie says
We loved Chef, too!
Lisa O says
Oh! I thought of another one, “Begin Again” with Mark Ruffalo is so good and if you’re a music lover, the soundtrack is excellent. It wasn’t big in Australia, but we absolutely loved it. Hope you enjoy!
Erica Sparkenbaugh says
So before we had our son, my hubby and I went to roughly 2 movies a month (we lived in Michigan so there wasn’t a lot to do in the looooong winter). Anway, I’ve been really missing those movie theater dates and like you, can’t justify the cost of babysitter to see a movie. If we’re paying someone I want it to be for a fancy dinner out or night with friends. So recently I went to a movie by myself during my son’s afternoon nap! It was glorious – I saw a movie that I wanted to see without making my hubby see it with me and it was cheap because I went to a matinee. It was a really refreshing personal day. If you can swing it, I’d highly recommend it!
Sagan says
All you need is Netflix 😉 Mr Science just watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s with me the other day and he actually liked it!
And I’m with Erica – going to a movie by yourself, if you can manage to squeeze it in, is awesome and totally worth it. Trade off a night with David so you can each have a few hours just to yourselves!
LaToya says
Congratulations on your little one taking the bottle. I love Taylor Swift’s video, this is the first time I’ve seen it.
Movies are so dang on expensive these days and I cannot think of the last rental we’ve gotten. It’s so hard to do with littles.
