When I came to the computer this morning, it dawned on me that I hadn’t been on here since Friday morning. I usually try to set the computer aside over the weekend while I focus on family time, but 3 days without it is pretty good! So let’s see, what kept me busy?
Friday night was pizza at home, evening dance parties (also known as ice skating around the living room, which is Hailey’s favorite right now) and snuggles. That pretty much sums up this stage of life and I love it.
Saturday morning we headed out to breakfast at Sun Up Café.
After a delicious breakfast, David took the girls to Barnes and Noble and I went to get a facial (!!!). I realize that typing that out all nonchalantly makes this activity seem typical, when in reality I’ve had one other facial in my life, maybe 10 years ago? A place near us was running a half-off special and I was overjoyed to take advantage of it. It was fabulous, but then again, they could have just stuck me in a quiet room for an hour and a half and I would have savored it.
I saw this sign walking out of the spa and nodded, but added a mental addendum that said getting a facial makes it easier to make the best out of everything.
I grocery shopped on Saturday which felt bizarre and kind of nice. I picked up some food to make for Kaitlyn because somehow we are nearing the 6 month mark and will be starting solids this week.
While I’m in denial that almost 6 months have passed since she was born, I am giddy with excitement about introducing her to solid foods through baby led weaning. We had such a positive experience with it with Hailey. Of course, I’ll be sharing more details on that soon.
Saturday night we went out to an early dinner.
Then we hit up the bar scene and danced until the early morning hours.
Just kidding. We played Scrabble.
I remain the Scrabble queen. Any challengers?
Sunday meant a cozy morning and breakfast at home.
It was my first experience with the popular Kodiak Cakes and I give them two thumbs ups!
Later that morning was Hailey’s best friend’s birthday party.
Alison has more creativity in her pinky than I do in my whole being so there were many adorable touches, including these books as favors, which I though was a great idea!
The kids had a blast running around and learning some tae kwon do.
Then we gave her Kaitlyn as a present!
Ok, we wouldn’t really do that, but she could have been mistaken for a gift with that big ‘ol bow, huh?
After wearing them out, we gave the kids sugar to pep them back up.
It worked for an hour, then Hailey, Kaitlyn and I all took naps. It was glorious.
After the kids went down, David and I settled into the couch with our fish tacos, watched a little Last Man Standing, then called it a night. This week is another doozy, so I’m grateful for all the relaxation of this past weekend!
Would you rather have a facial or a massage? Loved my facial, but probably lean towards massage.
Are you a board game fan? YES! Though I really love charades more than anything.
What’s your favorite? Scrabble, Rumikub, Monopoly…
Danielle says
The only time I win at scrabble is when we play for low points! Haha 🙂 we love the game ‘Settlers of Cataan.’
I’ve never had a facial or a massage, but I think I would go for he massage!
Looks like your weekend was wonderful!

Love the family pictures!

What a great weekend – no wonder you didn’t mind being unplugged 🙂
We had a few dance parties of our own around here. My toddler had a wonderful time dancing at a wedding reception this weekend
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my gosh, I can only imagine how much H would love a wedding reception- I’ll bet that was a blast!!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Love it when weekends are full of small meaningful things!
I would much rather get a massage and I love board games (Taboo being my #1 fav!).
Liv @ Healthy Liv says
I think I’d have to go with massage since I can do a face mask at home and call it a day (totally not the same thing but you know 🙂
I’m probably more of a card game fan! Sometimes it seems like board games drag on foreverrrrr!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Such a fun party for the kids!
I love board games but no one ever wants to play with me! Scrabble is awesome!
Tanya says
I got a facial last week two!!! As in, my second one ever…so amazing. The choice between a facial and a massage was a difficult one but I figure at this point my body is just going to hurt not matter what, but my face needed some special treatment.
Brittany Dixon says
Good for you Mama 😉 It won’t be long now!
Lindsey @ Simply Lindsey says
I love board games! My favorite is definitely Scrabble, but I also love Scattergories, Snake Oil, and Dixit!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my gosh YES to Scattegories!! I haven’t played in forever but I love it.
Katie says
I would go massage, but I’ve only had two in my life.
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
What a wonderful, relaxing weekend. We went to Barnes & Noble too! We are big bookworms.
I would rather get a massage than a facial. I love Scrabble, but I can’t say I’m the queen of Scrabble!

Facials all the way. My first one was at age 24 when I got a gift to do 4 leading up to my wedding. When my. Esthetician (sp?) told me doing even 2-3 a year could prevent signs of aging, I have made it my mission to get at least 2 a year. Since that was just over 10 years ago I might not have abided to two a year every year but done years I manage 4 so I figure it all works out. I don’t bother with massages since the benefits are short-lived and my facial glow usually lasts 3-5 days and is hopefully going to pay off when I am 50, 60, 70+++. You can let me know…
Scrabble, rummikub and cranium wow are my faves!
Brittany Dixon says
Sounds like it makes sense to me, but I’ll take whatever ‘proof’ necessary to rationalize getting them more often. Maybe we can trade off- I take the girls, you get a facial and vice versa?! 🙂
Heather says
I would probably go for a massage over a facial.
LOVE board games! Our favorites right now are mostly for bigger groups (Dixit, Superfight, Cards Against Humanity), but we also play cribbage now and then and Bananagrams.
Monica says
I LOVE Scrabble, but my husband doesn’t like it, so we never play! This weekend I just saw a wall Scrabble game in HS catalog that I thought would be so cool when your kids are older… everyone has their own hanging letters and when you have time, and happen to be walking by, you play. I want it!

Oh my gosh that is SO awesome!! Thank you for sharing. I kind of want to get that just for David and me 🙂

Oh I love a facial (with the added foot massage) otherwise I am a total massage girl (as long as my feet and head get rubbed LOL). I have a thing for people rubbing my feet obviously!
Love games – Scrabble, Taboo, plus almost any card game!
Laura @FitMamaLove says
I love books as favors! Those fish tacos look delish! Yay for spa time and facials! I think I would choose massages over facials every time. Looks like a great weekend!
Sherry says
Enjoyed all the pictures. Will challenge you to a game of Scrabble over Thanksgiving–now to go study the dictionary for those x-z- & j words!

Massage all the way! Your weekend sounded great – perfect mix of relaxation and busyness!
Alex says
I think I would prefer a deep tissue massage, but a facial sounds like such a nice treat too! My favorite games are CatchPhrase and Yatzee. I’m looking forward to a lot of game playing with the upcoming holidays and family time.

Awe, goodness your little girls are darling! I am excited to see how you approach baby-led weaning- I love reading about all of the munchkin meals you prepare your girls!
Christy O'Dwyer says
Wow! They grow up so fast. I remember reading about her arrival.
Lynn says
Glad you had a fun weekend. My husband and I booked a couples massage, facial and herbal foot soak this past weekend. Totally would always go for the massage! We LOVE board games and LOVE anything yahtzee. They have actually come out with several variations over the years. Hope you have a fantastic week! Your babies are adorable. I have two boys….12 and 15 months.
Kari @ Cooking with Toddlers says
How exciting your little one is starting solids; can’t wait to read more about how it goes. Your weekend sounds lovely!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
I love that quote about happy people making the best of things! 🙂 And oh my gosh, the girls are getting so big!
Danica @ It's Progression says
I’ve never had a facial before – they always look so expensive and it seems a little risky with sensitive skin? If I saw half off like that though I may take the plunge. Massages, especially deep tissue, are my absolute favorite self-care type of treat.
Shari says
I love, love, LOVE Scrabble!!

Kodiak Cakes are awesome 🙂

I love Last Man Standing! My family lives in Los Angeles, so we actually go to the tapings occasionally. Tim Allen has always been such a hunk to me
