Happy Friday! If you are from Florida or the eastern coastline, I hope you’re somewhere safe and sound. I’ll be thinking of y’all as Matthew moves through. Here in central North Carolina, we aren’t supposed to see much of anything beyond some rain later today and tomorrow, so I’m trying to figure out something fun for a rainy Saturday, but honestly, all I can think of our house projects. Adulting y’all.
I’m sure you didn’t stop by for the weather report, so instead let me share some things I’ve been loving lately. I always love when you share you favorites with me in the comments too!
Balayage (Hair Painting)
I took about 5 years off from putting any color in my hair beginning right before I got pregnant with Hailey. I really don’t mind my dark natural color, but a year ago I wanted to play with it just a bit. I went back to highlights but the upkeep was such a pain. I bounced around to a few places hoping someone would understand what I meant when I said subtle and grows out well. Well I finally found my solution at Savvy Salon and Day Spa (in Cornelius for the locals). Brittney is awesome and the technique she uses paints the color on my hair in such a natural way that I can wait 3 months between appointments. I love it!
And if someone could teach me how to blow dry and curl my hair like a professional, I’d love you forever.
Being Basic
I’m really not a huge pumpkin spice nut. I love apple and cinnamon a bit more, but some inner basic tendencies made me reach for this. I’m so glad I did! The flavor is subtle and adds just the right amount of fall flavor to oatmeal (or anything else you might want to use it for… like straight from the spoon).
Local Organic Elderberry Syrup
Winter is coming. {Any other GoT fans out there?!} But really, germ season is on its way so when a friend put me in touch with a lady that makes her own elderberry syrup, I picked some up. It’s great for boosting the immune system and speeding up healing, so since I can’t get the girls to chew on raw garlic like I do, I’m hoping this will be a good alternative. You can read more about it and find out how to make your own here.
Being a Bag Lady
Unfortunately it’s not the cool kind sporting the Chloe bag, but more so the mom kind with new lunchboxes. Personal Creations sent me this purple one and it’s quickly become Kaitlyn’s favorite.
And yes, I cut the cheese and ham with a pumpkin shaped cookie cutter. After saying #NeverWouldIEver. (Spoiler alert- it worked. The kids loved it.)
Halloween Crafts
Oh how I want to take credit for this and have you think I can sit there patiently for hours and do crafts with my kids, but I can’t. I’ve mentioned I have a sitter one day a week, but maybe I should also mention how much I LOVE HER too. She shows up with all sorts of fun crafts in mind and the kids totally dig it.
The bat clothes pin was/is her favorite.
Coupons
Honestly, I kind of suck at couponing, but when I’m completely out of wine and a $20 off coupon rolls in, I take notice.
Dorot Garlic & Herbs
If you haven’t yet found these little gems in your grocer’s freezer, look for them! They come in multiple varieties and I love grabbing the ones I don’t usually keep on hand (like fresh ginger) to use in recipes, like this teriyaki chicken I made a couple days ago.
David’s Snaps
Is there any other response to this besides the crying laughing emoji??
Forgetting to Cancel my Blue Apron Order
So it showed up and caught me by surprise. I’m lucked out though in that I was out of food (but was really looking forward to take out Indian food – wahh) but all three meals that showed up looked like really good ones. We ate two of them last night and both were really tasty!

Glad you’re out of the way of the storm! It sounds like a doozy. Also, thanks for reminding me to check my Blue Apron schedule since sometimes a surprise box is okay, but we just had one of those and I don’t need another! Haha! Right now I’m in love with dark fall lip colors and dark nail polishes, oh and big cozy sweaters. I need to find more sweaters that aren’t tight in the sleeves.
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Oh my gosh your hair looks AMAZING! And I love those Dorot spices. I always have the cilantro ones in my freezer! Perfect for making cilantro rice 🙂

My slow cooker and soup! Hoping the two will make it fall like weather here… luckily a cold front is on the way!
Love the crafts… I hope I can be with it enough to do some crafts when the little isn’t so little.
I will also be chilling out with my candles this weekend… no big plans.

I’m so excited for real soup weather! We’ve dipped into cool temps a few times and I’m already itching for homemade vegetable soup… mmm!

I have heard good things about elderberry juice, but I am so scared to trust others canning procedures and I have no time myself to can this product.
The reason for my fear is a friend bought some canned juice at a local farmers market vendor and gave it to her little boy(2yr old) and he ended up in ICU for three days from a bacteria that came from improper canning the professionals said. So scary…..
Be careful and make sure you know who canned your product. I would hate to read that something you meant to keep you healthy made you all very sick in the long run.
Brittany Dixon says
That story is terrifying!! Canning kind of freaks me out for that same reason. The lady I got this from did not can it; she just made it the other day. I read on wellness mama that you can freeze it so I froze it into cubes of 2 tsp (1 each for the girls) + 1 Tbsp (for me) so I can defrost when I need them. Hope that works well- we’ll see!

Aww, I am also loving your hair! Love u sweet friend! {insert kissie emoji}
