Guess who is napping in the crib for the first time?!

IMG_2039

Yes, those are bumpers. Yes, I still have them in the crib.  I’m OK with it for right now.  The crib is part of this new schedule thing I’m trying.  At readers’ requests, I’ll be posting about it soon- a day in the life style, but today, it’s all about the FOOD.

Breakfast

Wheat Toast with PB, chia and honey

Wheat toast, peanut butter, chia seeds and honey.  It’s my new quick breakfast- fills me up and is easy to eat while holding a clingy baby.  Of course, no fall breakfast is complete without…

International Delight Pumpkin Pie Spice

a cup of decaf with Pumpkin Pie Spice.  Usually I buy Breve Cream, which is just cream and sugar instead of this stuff that has unrecognizable ingredients… but the pumpkin pie spice suckered me in… sigh…

Lunch

tuna and spinach sandwich with apple

No morning snack? Nope.  Somehow the morning flew by.  Oh that’s right. It flew by because SOMEone didn’t feel like sleeping… not a wink… I let her fuss a little while I finally made lunch.

Garlic and herb tuna and spinach on wheat, with sliced HONEYCRISP (drooooooooool) apple on the side.

Afternoon Snack

hummus and wheat thins

I was going to sneak in some more nutrients with carrot sticks, but after only 2 days, the carrots had turned slimy. EW!

Be honest… who is in the mood to go watch Ghost Busters now? ::timidly lifts hand and blushes::

Dinner

Guess who stopped by to meet Hailey? Uncle Chris!

IMG_2035

Hubbs’ bro was in town for work and made it over to meet his little niece.  I was so happy he was able to stop by! I was a bit tired (OK, a lot tired), so I snuggled with Hailey while the guys took over dinner duty.

So… it wasn’t surprising when dinner ended up looking like this:

steak and sweet potato fries

Is that a man meal or what? I didn’t even bother asking where the green stuff was :)   It was delicious, though.  Who doesn’t love sweet potato fries?

The guys didn’t stop there… dessert was in order, too.

angel food cake, caramel swirl ice cream and peanut butter chips

Angel food cake with caramel swirl ice cream and peanut butter chips.  This dish could be served in a restaurant. It was a-mah-zing. (Anyone watch Happy Ending? Penny? Anyone? ::crickets::)

When your boyfriend, husband, dad, guy friend is in charge of dinner… does it come out looking like a man meal, like mine did?

WIAW: Return of the Calorie Count

by Brittany on October 12, 2011 · 29 comments

For the past month or so I haven’t paid much attention to what I’ve eaten.  That doesn’t mean it was unhealthy because I truly enjoy eating natural foods that energize me. However, in my attempts to keep up with Hailey, my meals have been a bit more ‘grab what you can when you can’, meaning more carb heavy.  I haven’t thought much about it, but now that she will be one month old tomorrow and I’m closer to feeling normal (though I’m not healed yet), I want to really start focusing on my post baby body goals.

Today I decided to bring back the calorie count version of WIAW- out of curiosity.  Does this mean I’m going to count calories everyday? Heck no.  I don’t have time for that.  But I am going to try and be more conscious about balancing out my carbs with those other nutrients and making sure vegetables appear more often in my meals.

The good news is I’m clearly doing OK, because Hailey isn’t having any problem packing on the ounces… just look at those cheeks!

Thoughts: I’m happy with the amount of whole foods I got in yesterday.  I must be honest and say that it hasn’t been like that everyday (usually a bit more Kashi GoLean Crunch and turkey sandwiches and apples sneak in- you know, basics).

What is your favorite grab ‘n go healthy food?

I’m always looking for new, easy ideas!

What I Ate…on my Due Date

September 7, 2011

Well, it wasn’t the muffins. Any other ideas? I’m quickly finding it difficult to focus on anything other than going into labor.  I know- it’s only one day past my due date, but it’s amazing how minutes seem like hours. Even my instincts are acting all funny. Proof? I’m not that interested in food.  Sometimes [...]

What {we} Ate Wednesday

August 3, 2011

It’s true what they say- first trimester symptoms start to make a return during the late third trimester.  I find myself a little queasy at time and drawn to starchy carbs and fruits over fat and protein.  I’m eating small meals more regularly because sitting down to a large meal does not sound appealing.  Just [...]

What {we} Ate Wednesday: BH Edition

July 27, 2011

BH stands for Braxton Hicks contractions.  I felt them all day yesterday, which was something new to me.  It’s when your baby bump tightens up and is really hard for a minute before relaxing again.  They don’t hurt, but yesterday I seriously felt them the entire day, which was something new to me.  I actually [...]
