What {we} Ate Wednesday

by Brittany on July 20, 2011 · 38 comments

Welcome to another W{we}AW! I’m really debating whether I’m going to keep this a weekly event, or just a ‘sometimes’ post, but either way, I’m here today, so here we go!

Breakfast

1 egg on a whole wheat deli thin with 1 oz shredded Cabot cheddar, topped with some Jack’s fresh salsa.

I had a sliced white peach on the side with an (un-pictured) cup of decaf and cream.

Lunch

I picked up a brown rice California roll from the grocery store (how many of you just ewww’d??).  I don’t think I could ever eat anything raw from the grocery store sushi counter, but I must admit I like the brown rice Californias.

Paired with watermelon… because obviously those go together. ;)

And a hefty serving of homemade hummus that was made using yesterday’s tomato almond pesto.  Delicious combo! With kashi’s new pita crisps, which are quite tasty.

Movie Treat

Hubbs and I watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last night.  It was day 3 of Harry Potter movie madness.  We’ll watch the Deathly Hallows: Part One on Thursday and be fully prepared to watch the newest Harry Potter on Friday night … I totally already bought VIP tickets to the screening and could not be MORE PUMPED about the Harry Potter date night extravaganza!

Is Hubbs the best husband or what? He is being such a good sport and indulging his 8 month pregnant wife’s love for Harry Potter… GOLD STAR for Hubbs!

Anyways, I ate a small handful of Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips right from the bag.  Luckily they are sweet enough that only a few go a long way!

What {we} Ate Wednesday: Popeye Edition

by Brittany on June 29, 2011 · 29 comments

The Sailor Man would have been proud with the amount of spinach I snuck in throughout the day yesterday…

Breakfast

Bagel with peanutbutter, banana and chia seedsbagel with pb banana and chia seeds

I was in need of something filling and comforting, and this hit the spot! It’s half of a Thomas’ Whole Wheat bagel with 2 Tbsp of JIF Natural Peanut Butter, half of a banana and a solid sprinkling of Chia seeds.  Gotta love getting in some omega-3s with breakfast!

*Also, I had 1 cup of orange juice, which is unpictured because my sweet Hubbs brought it to me while I was still in bed.  Sometimes my blood sugar is a little low in the mornings if I sleep for a while, and OJ helps give me a boost. Oh pregnancy

Lunch

Shrimp spinach zucchini and basil pasta

Lunch started with leftover Zucchini, Basil and Shrimp Pasta (recipe to come!), which I heated up over a bed of spinach before mixing it all together.

Plus, a hummus snack plate with a few Juice Plus Gummies on the side!

Afternoon Snackage

True to form, I snacked throughout the afternoon…

Self explanatory above, followed by a simple egg salad, which I made up as I went along.  2 boiled DHA eggs, celery, 1/2 Tbsp Smart Balance light mayo, mustard and a cut up dill pickle slice… served on spinach, of course.

Then, there was more hummus.  Creamy Sabra, you sucker me in every time!

Dinner

We really do eat a lot of (homemade) pizza, and last night the craving struck again!  Started off with a simple spinach salad with tomato, feta, kalamata olives, onions and Newman’s Light Balsamic…

And ended with homemade veggie pizza, made with a new New York Styles crust recipe I tried out, topped with broccoli, spinach, roasted garlic, onions, peppers and fresh mozzarella.  I had 2 slices.

I’d like to have protein be a higher percentage of my calorie total, especially with all the brain development going on with Baby D this week, but overall, I’m happy with yesterday’s eats :)

Best thing you ate yesterday?

I’m always looking for new ideas :)

Cheese for the Non-Dairy Eater

June 21, 2011

I’ve seen almond milk become main stream and I love it in smoothies!  However, a little while ago I came across a product that was new to me- ALMOND CHEESE! I thought it would be a great alternative for someone with a lactose intolerance and decided to try it out.  I was further impressed by [...]

What (we) Ate Wednesday – Improvised Edition

June 1, 2011

Yesterday’s eats were a little all over the place, thanks to the fact that I’m all thrown off because of the short week.  Not that I’m complaining about a 3 day weekend   Yesterday I made it to the grocery store late afternoon, so before that, I had to improvise… here’s what I mean… Breakfast [...]

What (we) Ate Wednesday: Veggie Version

May 25, 2011

Welcome to another What (we) Ate Wednesday! By pure coincidence I realized that I didn’t eat any meat yesterday (if you don’t count eggs or dairy as meat).  What great timing because it just so happens to be National Vegetarian Week (at least I think I’ve heard that’s true). Let’s get started… Breakfast Breakfast consisted [...]

What (we) Ate Wednesday

May 11, 2011

Yesterday was a full day- yoga, business meetings and clients, but I managed to do a pretty good job of sticking to healthy eats.  Somehow that pesky bagel managed to sneak it’s way in though.  Baby wants CARBS! Breakfast I started the day with a some delicious well-roundedness.  1 egg + 1 egg white omelet [...]

Celebratory Sandwiches

May 3, 2011

I loved all the sweet comments on our anniversary post from yesterday.  2 years down, and a lifetime more to go Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling 100% yesterday.  I tried to shake the icky feeling by staying busy and even made it to the gym. I thought some movement might help, and I ellipticalled for 35 [...]

An Easy & Impressive Easter Dinner for Two

April 25, 2011

Goooooood morning! Did everyone have a nice (maybe even a nice, long?) Easter weekend?  I did!  Some of the highlights included trying a strange food concoction: It was disappointing. Grilling out with friends. And staining our back deck. Do we know how to celebrate, or what? I wanted to try something new for our Easter [...]
