First, thank you all SO much for your thoughtful, loving comments. It means so much to have your support. Y’all really are the best!
And now…
Mmm…
It’s been a wonderful couple of days with my mom. She came up Sunday, knowing I’d get the results phone call near the beginning of the week. I was so glad she was here when I got the good news. I’m also glad that she has spoiled me rotten while she’s been here. I don’t think I’ve changed a single dirty diaper. Spoiled, I tell ya.
Hailey loves Nana and has been over the moon since her arrival. We’ve played at the park, read stories and run errands. Yesterday afternoon, however, a cold front started to blow through.
In just a few hours the temperature dropped 30 degrees. Some areas of Charlotte saw flurries. We decided the cold, rainy late afternoon would be best spent in the kitchen.
I’m usually more of a cook than a baker, but yesterday’s cozy afternoon begged for baking.
And butter worms.
So bake we did.
I was surprised that Hailey handled the privilege of flour so well. She poured it from cup to cup, somehow managing to keep it off the floor.
Her shirt, however, didn’t fare quite as well.
It didn’t take long to whip up a batch of scones.
They baked, I cleaned up and Nana and Hailey snuggled while watching George.
For not being a baker, I was surprised how delicious these scones turned out. Perhaps I kept them a bit too thick because the centers were slightly soft, but the combination of craisins, walnuts and dark chocolate was heavenly.
I’m enjoying another one now with a hot cup of decaf. The perfect way to start a 23 degree morning.

OMG, I LOVE the picture of the three girls!! Those scones look amazing as well.

Ohmygosh I can’t wait to “see” Hailey become a big sis! She’s too cute!
And I prefer cooking because there’s more room to get creative. Baking, to me, is more of an exact science whereas cooking is more of an art. But that doesn’t mean I won’t bake some cookies if need be!

Cranberries + walnuts + dark chocolate is a fabulous combo! So good, in fact, that I keep making myself a little janky homemade “trail mix” out of that trifecta of goodness. 😉

Love those pictures of Hailey with her Nana. My mother is “Nana” too. 🙂
It got really cold here too yesterday. 29 in Birmingham this morning…brrr!
I love both cooking and baking. I do more cooking, though. Mostly out of time constraint and neccessity at the moment. I cook dinner most nights. I will bake mostly for special occasions. I wish I did it more. Those scones look amazing!

…and PS, mentioned you in my WIAW post today. 🙂 XO

It got cold quickly here, too! We even had our first snow yesterday.
I love to bake! I love the mixing and measuring and that a blob of batter turns into something delicious. I’m a science kind of person, though, so baking is like a science experiment to me.

Three pretty girls and tasty scones. I’ll be welcoming Nana home today, perhaps she will bring a scone or two back with her!

It’s always so nice to have mom in town and be spoiled! I love that more than anything.

Aww. So many warm fuzzies seeing you, your mom and H baking together.
I have been dying to make cinnamon chip scones and cannot find cinnamon chips anywhere! I might have to buy 10 bags of them in bulk from Amazon. I’m serious.
Oh and I enjoy baking more than cooking. I often use a cooking scale to measure my ingredients and love it! It’s like a science experiment.

Yumm! Those look delicious, Brittany!
Danielle @ Long May You Run says
Brittany- your recipes seriously never fail to to be awesome! I had the day off and went ahead and made these scones, and I’m surprised at how easy and good they are. Thanks for another keeper =)
(we got a couple of inches of snow and weather in the teens from this front… oh how I miss Charlotte!!!!)

It’s probably due to my (usually) raging sweet tooth, but there is just something about baking that i LOVE. It’s also probably bc I don’t do it too often.
I am so so happy that you had good news from the doctor! And what a sweet, supportive mom you have!

I love cooking and baking, being in the kitchen is my favorite past time! I prefer to cook though, because having all the extra baked goods in the house isn’t healthy whereas when I cook, it’s always a healthy meal! 😀
Glad you enjoyed the time with your mom!
