1. It’s been 3 days since I admitted my jeans were too tight and I’m happy to report thy fit now! …but it’s only because I’ve worn them 3 days in a row and stretched the fool out of them. I haven’t exercised all week.
2. My allergies are something terrible. Is Georgia worse for allergies than North Carolina? My eyes and throat would vote YES.
3. My niece went home last night and we are all headed back into Atlanta today to take turns holding her to cook some meals and help clean the house. I’m giddy!
4. I took over dinner last night here at my parent’s house. It probably took me a solid 1.5 hours to make it since we were all in the kitchen sipping wine while shallots and garlic aromas floated around the kitchen. It was a great night and dinner didn’t turn out half bad either.
5. It’s only been 3 days, but I miss David and Koda. Maybe I’m too attached? I’m ok with that.
6. I feel a little guilty that when I’m home I let my mom take over almost 100% of Hailey duties. I know she loves it, but I probably take a little too much advantage of the extra helping hands. It’s just so nice to have family nearby to help! Those that live near family- I’m very jealous of you.
Have I mentioned Hailey found my old Cabbage Patch doll and takes it everywhere with her now? It’s so dang cute.
7. Though this toddler age is tiring, it’s ridiculously fun. Hailey is learning so many more words everyday and loves point out here Nana, Papa (which will be Papa John’s name for now!) and Mama. She’s learning how to say Baby Kyla…
What’s the best food dish to make for a new mom and dad?

OMG, that video totally made my morning…she’s too cute!!

the meal looks divine!!!

That video is ADORABLE! What a sweet smile she has!
I completely agree about the allergies. The pollen level has been off-the-charts here in Pennsylvania and everyone’s really feeling it. Ugh!
Tricia says
I too am guilty of letting my mom take over 100% when she visits. It is just so nice to have the help and like your mom, she really wants too! Yeah for moms! I too am insanely jealous of those with family near by especially when they don’t realize just how amazingly helpful it is!

After our daughter was born, we had several wonderful friends and neighbors bring us dinner (which I was so appreciative of!) But I think what I remember most is my friend bringing me a batch of freshly cooked waffles, packed into a freezer bag so I could pop them into the freezer and have them for breakfast all week long. It was so nice to have breakfast ready made after a long night with a newborn! I bet your freezable breakfast burritos would be a hit as well!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Your dinner looks like it turned out great. I am HOOKED on asparagus right now!
Hanna says
My favorite meal when we had Abby was a pot roast. It was so good! That video of H was so sweet! I just love her big round eyes. So precious. Thank you for sharing!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Ahhh she’s so precious! What a beautiful baby girl :). I’m lucky in that I grew up with my grandma literally two minutes up the street and my aunt, uncle, and cousins (we’re all around the same age) only 4 minutes down the road a ways. It made for some great Saturday night dinners with all the fam and worked out well if my sister or I had to stay home sick while my parents worked.
The dinner you made looks so good!
Presley @ Run Pretty says
I feel like I take advantage of the help, too. But you have to remember, they really do want their time with the baby! 🙂 My dad will literally just show up at my house to play with Maddux. SO SWEET.

YES Atl allergies are worst than Clt’s, seriously. That (and the traffic) are the reasons we left Atl. But of course now my brother moved there, and my parents may be moving, so I have a feeling we’ll eventually be back. Bring on the Zyrtec.
Erin @Axell's Kitchen says
Haha I love the part about the jeans- And I live 5 minutes from my parents. It is AMAZING and I am super lucky.
Lindsay@Fuel My Family says
I always make my chicken pot pie (recipe on my page). It’s free of any gas producing foods that may hurt a newborns belly if a mom eats and is a super healthy 1 dish meal!
Beth Sheridan says
Oh that little Hailey!! Those big brown eyes and that sweet smile…My little boy is 2 1/2 and is SO quickly growing out of the toddler stage and I am going to miss it terribly!
I make chicken and dumplings in the crock pot whenever I have to take food to a family and it’s so super easy and delicious!
Sarah says
I don’t live close to relatives either, and I totally take advantage of Grandma’s help anytime they visit us or vice-versa. Oh, you want Grandma to change your diaper? Okay, *I guess* that would be fine. =)
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I am SURE that your mom loves taking over the Hailey duties. My mom insists on stealing Michael whenever we are there. Grandmas live for that stuff! I absolutely love Hailey with the Cabbage Patch Kid. I wish that I still had all of mine, but they got ruined in the basement several years ago when there was a flood. 🙁 Have a great weekend!
Bethany says
Something healthy! I just had a baby 6 months ago and I think a lot of people want to make comfort food for new moms and dads, but I always appreciated it when someone made something healthy because the super cheesy fat-heavy comfort foods just made me feel more bleh! 🙂 Maybe a healthy veggie-heavy lasagna with whole wheat noodles? It’s part comfort food part healthy energy food!
Danica @ It's Progression says
Hailey is just so cute!!
I haven’t had a baby so I don’t know personally, but I brought a friend (brand new mom) snacky things that were easy to throw together – homemade granola, greek yogurts, nut mixes, sliced up veggies, hummus, pita chips, and air-popped popcorn – and she said she absolutely loved it all because she could easily grab healthy snacks between nursing sessions or during times when there just didn’t feel like time for heating up a casserole, etc.

Hailey is SO cute.
I usually try to bring something healthy but comforting to new parents, as I am sure that they are getting a fair share of casseroles (which are delicious too)! My go-to meal is pork tenderloin with an asparagus and orzo pasta side dish, which both can be eaten at room temp or warm, so I’m not stressed about getting it to them right out of the oven. I’ve gotten lots of good feedback with the healthy change.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
As someone who just had a baby, and is having lots of people bring us meals, any meal that makes lots of leftovers is great. We also loved when people brought us dessert or fruit or even boxes of our favorite breakfast cereal. 🙂
Chantal says
Love teaching babies new words!! My allergies down here in Alabama SUCK. So yeah, it’s the area.
Erika says
I let my mom take over toddler duties too when she’s around. Even though she lives 15 minutes away she only sees him once or twice a week. I don’t feel too bad about it – I figure it’s good for both of them.
My favorite made-for-me-meals when we got home from the hospital were things I could also freeze for later… for when we were really on our own or for when I went back to work. Chicken Enchiladas, Scalloped Potatoes and Ham, Lasagna, Potato Soup, and lots of veggies.
Maria says
Aww, I had a very similar Cabbage Patch doll when I was young. I still have it and it still smells like baby powder 🙂 It also may or may not have marker stains on it’s face…
I can’t watch the video because I’m at work right now, but cannot wait to see some H adorableness when I get home.
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate says
Have a good weekend 🙂
Vanessa says
Spinach lasagna! It is easy, healthy, and tastes even better when re-heated.
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I’ll come babysit for Hailey ANY time. 🙂 [Of course, I’d probably want to also be hanging out with you…so maybe just a girl’s day out.]
And now I want scallops.
And to go visit my dad and stepmom, where we sit around for two hours before eating dinner doing just what you described.
