Yesterday we mostly hung around the house in hopes of helping Kaitlyn get comfortable with her new sleeping schedule and get in some quality naps. I’m happy to report it was a success and she slept 7:15-5:30 (then right back down). I can handle that! I’m happy to share what I’m doing but want to give it a few days (or longer) before I declare it a success.
Anyways, I actually really enjoyed being home for most of the day. It was gorgeous out and I really soaked it in, as Hailey will be starting ‘school’ soon (a couple mornings a week). However, as I went through the day, I started thinking if normal parts of our day would seem odd to anyone else, so what’s your take?…
Letting your two year old eat peanut butter straight from the jar while helping you meal prep.
Normal or not?
Bypassing right pass everyone’s pumpkin craze and diving right into dreaming about Christmas time.
Normal or not?
Feeling fairly certain you could rock unschooling if you really committed to it.
Normal or not?
Taking pictures of magazine recipes you’d like to try.
Normal or not?
Tempting your 14 week old to crawl using Greek yogurt and Jungle Munch.
Normal or not?
…and what am I trying to get myself into. I know I shouldn’t be so excited about the idea of her becoming mobile.
Being jealous of your two year old’s hair.
Normal or not?
Grinning and whispering Yesssss under your breath when you open the mailbox and find new magazines or packages with your name on them.
Normal or not?
A little girl obsessed with caterpillars.
Normal or not?
Eating Mexican at least two times a week. Sometimes more.
Normal or not?
What’s something you do on the regular that others might consider a little odd?
C’mon… share one with me!
Sherry says
None of your things seem odd—except already dreaming about Christmas.
It may seem odd to others that if I have a list of “things to do” and I do something that is not on the list, I’ll write it on the list so that I can mark it off!
Also, your jar salads look delicious!
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, I love that one! I’d say totally NOT normal, except that I do it too 😉
Kathryn says
I’m voting normal! I too am jealous of my two year old’s hair! And come on, is there anything better than receiving packages in the mail? I think not 😉
Katie Zell says
Omg I totally had to chime in on this because I was just talking w/ my husband yesterday about how NOT normal it is that we are currently using a blow up mattress as an indoor trampoline. My girls love it! Ha!!
….& totally guilty of letting my girls eat pb straight from the jar.
Lauren says
We are doing the same!! My husband blew up the kid size camping mattress and my two year old has had a ball jumping on it!!
Brittany Dixon says
I LOVE this idea- haha! Hailey would have a field day!
Stacey@BingeFreeMe says
I just LOL! I take pictures of recipes too! It just seemed like an easy way to remember to make them since I’m always going through my pictures anyway. LOVE IT!
Kate @KateMovingForward says
If eating Mexican twice a week is wrong, I don’t want to be right! 😀
Jen says
Mmmmm, Mexican twice a week or more is so normal! At least in my household. Okay, normal or not: Yesterday I ate leftover eggplant parm and green beans for breakfast. It sounded good and it meant zero prep other than plopping it on a plate and microwaving it. I’m TIRED, cooking breakfast did not sound appealing!
Brittany Dixon says
My mom and I always joke about it, but we love eating dinner-type foods for breakfast too! Leftovers and so easy and delicious 🙂
Tiffany says
Since I do almost all of the things on your list, I’m going to go with normal (or else…we’re both odd!). I know I shouldn’t be, but yes, I am already thinking about Christmas too! I blame it on my iPhone that when playing it on random has been trying to play me some Christmas music!
Jessica @Myhealthypassion.com says
oh geez, where do I begin…there are too many to choose from!!
Marjorie says
All normal, in my opinion. I can’t wait to hear what you think of the new Shaklee products! I have been reading about the vitalized protein online…looks good.
Normal or not normal? I take pictures of almost everything I eat, be it for Instagram or a blog post. I going to go ahead and say that is only normal for food/ health bloggers! Ha!
Brittany Dixon says
Emailing you back now! 🙂
Monica says
All of those things sound perfectly normal to me… so maybe we’re disfunctional together? Haha…
Lauren says
Totally normal! I’m excited for Christmas too.
My not normal…sticking my 13 mo in his high chair and rolling it into my bathroom while I shower/get ready. It’s a big bathroom and he is trouble if left to his own devices!
He’d scream his head off of I put him in his crib.
al says
putting your toddler in the high chair in the bathroom is BRILLIANT, not weird!!!
Brittany Dixon says
Ditto! I think that’s a great idea!! You know they are safe and they have a tray for toys- brilliant 🙂
jade says
I know time is flying by but how in the world is she already 14 weeks old!!!
Heather says
Seems normal enough to me… except for passing right over Halloween and going straight to Christmas! :p I hear you when it comes to unschooling. We’ve been having a lot of talks about how to handle school when the time comes and if we should start preparing for me to quit work in the next couple of years. The part of me that loves routine and being organized thinks it would be awesome.
Karen Cassidy says
Totally agree with the NORMAL of my jealousy of Keely’s hair…SO SO JEALOUS!!
Sara says
Peanut butter straight from the jar for all my kids – normal. Jealous of the kids hair – normal. Excited for Christmas – normal. Tempting the baby to crawl – not with you there. By number 4 I was really hoping he would wait to crawl until he was 1. That way I didn’t have to be so worried about the older kids toys all over the place. My not normal – getting up at 4:15 daily to get any kind of me time, when logically I know I could use a little more sleep. Whatever – I trade off sleepy grumpies for not getting any “me time” grumpies.
LaToya says
I cannot wait for my son to crawl either. I feel so bad for him, just laying or sitting there and me and my hubby and his big sister flit about around him… I want him to be able to follow us! lol.
My abnormal thing – Wow, I cannot think of anything. I’ll have you know I pondered for a few minutes too. 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, yes! I feel like we all run around and K is just left there to roll around on her mat. I know it will be chaos when she can crawl but at least then she can play along 😉
Nicole @ Squash on Squash says
All of those seem totally normal to me 🙂
Hmm something I do on the regular that others might find strange…eating mostly breakfast food during the day, and then overloading on veggies at night to get them all in at once. I just crave oatmeal/yogurt/eggs during the day!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Eating Mexican food several times per week is most definitely normal! And AMAZING 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Totally normal to take pictures of recipes! Always do it! And now you have me craving mexican.
I have a feeling I’ll be jealous of my daughters hair once it gets longer. It seems SO thick. Mine..is not!
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
Your post today had me laughing out loud, several times. Sooooo funny. Not only do I eat Mexican at least twice a week, this morning I had loaded nachos for breakfast. Definitely not normal, but I’m blaming it on the pregnancy!
Brittany Greer says
Oh my goodness, hailey’s hair is gorgeous! Hm…my husband already thinks many parts of my day are not normal. Like planning/writing out each meal and snack for the day and crossing them out as I go along. That’s probably taking typical meal planning to the next level, but I love it!
Domi @ Eat, Pray, Lift says
All of it seems normal to me…which might just mean that I’m a major oddball, haha. 😛
I make my iced coffee each morning while still in my sports bra and yoga pants that I slept in. Normal or not??
I put the same Michael Buble album on repeat whenever I clean the bathroom. Normal or not??
I watch Kardashian reruns or Gossip Girl when I work out at home. Normal or not?? (It’s ok, I know it’s trashy haha.)
And I check political news semi-obsessively throughout the day. Normal or not?? (Probably NOT, at least for someone my age who’s not working in politics!)
Brittany Dixon says
I love Michael Buble! He sang our wedding song 🙂 I also love Gossip Girl and political news (when I can stomach it). Sounds like we’d get along swimmingly in our oddness!
Rebekah Anderson says
If it makes you feel any better, I call the spoonfuls straight from the Jar “peanut butter pops” so it sounds more official/acceptable when my daughter asks for it in public. lol.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my gosh, I LOVE this, haha! Brilliant. I might snag this idea from you 😉
Rebekah Anderson says
….And, I’m listening to Christmas music as I type. haha.
Jill Shelley says
I often bring part of my own food to restaurants. Like last night I took my own tomatoes and avocado to Red Robin since I’m fairly certain theirs are not organic. Normal or not?
Giselle says
What a fun post! I might have to borrow this idea if you don’t mind 🙂 Definitely normal that she likes caterpillars. I used to love playing with bugs, dirt and boy things. I had two brothers and no sisters so I think it was inevitable 🙂 My son started preschool last week and I’ve been loving having a few hours to myself a few days a week. Even though it would be awesome to homeschool him it’s a nice break for us both 🙂
Kelly says
I would say that’s all completely normal. I let my daughter eat out of the pb jar. My daughter LOVES caterpillars! I’m envious of my daughters hair…it’s full, shiny and looks great with no effort. I’m dreaming about Christmas too! I was googling christmas trees on Sunday. 🙂
Jillian @ Baby Doodah! says
I think every single one of them is NORMAL!!
i love that you do things outside of the box!
Emily says
Haha am I alone in that I WANT Mexican food 2x+ a week to be my normal?
char eats greens says
Being jealous of my daughter’s eyelashes. Jealousy is majorly in place there haha!! Ok, we have that Jungle Munch too, and it is SO good. We’ve been mixing it with cocoa Power O’s- thanks to my invention and Tyler now loves it haha.
Question for you actual: in the mail picture, is that your daytime you use to keep organized each day? I NEED one!!! I’m making a trip to Target today!
Heather says
I hope you’re able to share your sleep success story! My daughters are close in age to yours… My oldest will be 3 in September and the baby is 5 months this week. My baby was sleeping fantastically much like Kaitlyn, up once a night to feed and at 4 months one week she stated waking up twice, and now she awakes at 4am “for the day” and is completely off a sleeping schedule so I could definitely use your advice 🙂 exhausted here! I think your things are all very normal! 🙂 my 3yr old loves to help with chores… Sweeping , unloading dishwasher, laundry sorting /folding, vacuuming… Normal or not? Lol
Nikki says
When was your 14 week old able to gain control of her head like in your picture? My son is 11 weeks and tries so hard but cannot do it yet.
Brittany Dixon says
Kaitlyn started early with really great head control. Nothing that I did (no credit here!), just unique to her! She is rolling and loves her exersaucer already at 15 weeks and my older daughter was not nearly as physical this early on.

Hey would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?
I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future buut I’m having a tough time choosing
between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
Thee reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking
for something completely unique. P.S Apologies for being off-topic but

I’m curious to find out what blog system you’re working
with? I’m experiencing some minor security problems
with my latest website and I’d like to find something more safeguarded.
Do you have any solutions?
