This past weekend was a bit of a whirlwind. The girls I drove down to Georgia on Thursday to visit my mom, dad and Grandma Betty. The drive went surprisingly well thanks to a well planned nap and the downloads on my kindle. We were welcomed with big hugs and delicious food!
We played hard on Friday, hitting up the pool and the playground before picking every flower in Nana’s yard. By the end of the day, the girls were beat and Hailey completely zoned out on the couch, immersed in The Gruffalo (so cute!).
Saturday morning I left the girls in good hands…
and drove into Atlanta to help co-host a baby shower for Kristin, one of my very best friends from all the way back in the 7th grade.
It isn’t easy to feel helpful throwing a shower when you live out of town. I tried to help out where I could with creating the game and ordering the gift, but I really have to give major props to Anna, Lauren and Kristin, who brought together all the smallest details to make it a gorgeous event.
The food spread was incredible.
The flowers and decor were beautiful.
And the mini bottles of Rose fit perfectly into the delicate, girly theme.
For me it was an extra special event, not only to see my beautiful friend during this exciting time in life (I mean, how cute is she?!)
but also because I got to catch up with so many high school and college friends.
Living far away means I don’t get to see these girls as often as I’d like. Thanks to facebook and group texts, we stay in touch fairly well, but nothing beats an in-person catch up to reminisce on how we’ve gone from Panama City spring break trips to swaddles and bottles.
And of course, my lovely co-hosts and our other Kappa Delta sisters…
It was a wonderful afternoon and I made it back just in time to nurse Kaitlyn before bed.
After a couple of hours of playing with Nana and Papa John on Sunday morning the girls and I headed home in the rain. We stopped to grocery shop on the way home and by the grace of God we made it through without a single tantrum.
Yes, Hailey decided to save that for bedtime instead. At least it wasn’t in public!
Today is all about playing catch up and there is plenty to catch up on
{::takes a big swig of half-caff::}
I hope you all have a wonderful Monday!
Do you keep in touch with high school and college friends?
What is your favorite dish to make or eat at showers?
I don’t think you can ever go wrong with pimento cheese sandwiches- delish!

Looks like a wonderful weekend! I definitely stay in touch with high school and college friends, its not easy, even living in the same cities we don’t get together often, but when we do it is so wonderful!

Great seeing you in person and seeing these pics with your wonderful friends. You always bring positive energy and connectedness to whomever you meet on life’s path! (feeling loving and philosophical this morning)

Looks like you had an amazing weekend. What a sweet shower! I went to a baby shower last weekend for a high school (middle school!) friend as well this weekend and had a ton of fun!

I love the grocery cart pictures – I’m always looking into other people’s carts for inspiration! But what’s for dinner – lots of cabbage in that cart! Slaw?
My favorite shower food to eat is a dip – like a layer dip, or a sausage dip – though they can get messy. My favorite shower food to make would probably be slow-cooker done shredded pork for folks to make bbq sandwiches. I’m expecting right now – and with baby showers and expectant mothers and all the noise about what you can versus can’t eat (no coldcuts, etc) it’s a bit of a pain. But without the bun in the oven I love a cheese & salami with crackers plate, too!
Brittany Dixon says
Yes- slaw! For fish tacos I’ll use half the head, then I’ll probably just steam the other half and eat with red wine vinegar.
Congrats on your pregnancy! It’s not fun to navigate all the “shoulds and shouldn’ts” but just do what feels right for you and don’t listen if someone has beef with it 😉

Love the picture of Hailey, Kaitlyn and your mom watching TV… three totally different looks on their faces!!!
My good friend from 25 years ago (!) and her boyfriend just came to visit us in Italy for two weeks. We talk nearly every day!! Thank goodness for FaceTime and Voxer!

That looks like such a lovely shower! My best friend is having her first baby in October, and I wanted to help her mom and sister plan a shower, but it was really tough while I am traveling now after the bar exam. So I’m doing the best I can and will be a little helper on the day of to do the setup 🙂

We are also playing catch up after a long weekend away! I missed your Periscope live but watched it after and it is pretty much an exact match to my morning (except I made it to 6:15 bootcamp–hee hee!) Oh and we are once again potty training Eleanor…eek!

That’s so fun you were in Atlanta this weekend! It looked like a great time. And I can totally relate – both my family and some of my closest friends are still in Charlotte or the North Carolina area and it’s always so nice when we are able to catch up in person!

Love baby showers (but not for myself!)
We had the BIGGEST tantrum in Kroger this weekend. Knocked over vases with water by the 3 year ol,d, screaming and banging her head on the shopping cart from the 1 year old. Let’s just say Lord knows what i ended up buying!
Lauren @ Oh Hey, I Like That! says
When I helped through my best friend’s baby shower with her sisters, none of us were in the same town as the bride, so thank goodness for email! It ended up being a wonderful day! You and your friends did a fantastic job!
