Another week down with no baby. C’mon little one- I’m getting so excited about cooler weather and want to share it with you… not to mention I’m getting pumped about fall fashion. If you haven’t checked out the comment’s on Friday’s fashion post, you definitely should. I didn’t know there were so many fashionistas out there and I am excited to start wearing real clothes again, thanks to your help!
FYI: it looks like scarves are the winning accessory.
Moving on… another week as a family of two means another date night come Friday. It’s a little treat that keeps my spirits up. This week we tried out another new place, Choplin’s Restaurant in Cornelius, NC.
I chose this place because it’s locally owned and has a commitment to local farms. Very cool.
My only struggle was not giving the stink eye to all the people around us sipping on big, beautiful bottles of red wine. 😉
We started with the Hot Crab & Spinach Fondue.
It arrived it a hot skillet and with a full loaf of bread. Thick, creamy, filling and yummy! Success.
Hubbs loves bread-based appetizers, but I knew the dish that I was dying to try. A spinach salad with fried goat cheese nuggets!
Though the salad was heavily dressed, it tasted fresh and the goat cheese nuggets lived up to my expectation. Creamy and warm on the inside, crunchy on the outside. Goat cheese nuggets = my favorite food.
We both ordered entrees. Hubbs had tilapia and shrimp in a cream sauce and I chose the seafood linguine with scallops, sea bass and shrimp in a red cream sauce.
Hubbs’ dish was delicious. So flavorful and the shrimp were perfectly cooked! Mine, unfortunately, was bland and the seafood was mushy after being under a pile of pasta and sauce.
I didn’t end up eating more than a bite or two, and when the waitress noticed, I hesitantly told her my thoughts. This was so difficult because I truly hate complaining. To my surprise, they took the whole dish off the meal. Truly, it wasn’t what I was trying to do, and was quite impressed with Choplin’s commitment to serving great food.
Friday date night was a lot of fun and those carbs served their purpose the following day when Hubbs ran in the WARRIOR DASH!
Have you ever been to one of those events? It’s pretty cool!!
It’s an all-weekend-long field party with beer, turkey legs and a 5k race full of obstacles. I’m definitely finding one to run in next year!
Amazing.
Oh yeah, I was there, too. Here’s proof:
What? I consider being 9 months pregnant to be ‘special needs’ 😉
Do you ever complain about food in restaurants?
Ever run in or seen a Warrior Dash?
Did you like it?

I love fried goat cheese! So good. I’ve been eating it a ton during pregnancy, since my lactose intolerance will likely comeback once baby is here.
Your husband is awesome for doing one of those races! They scare me so much. I’ve been tempted to do one but I’m so scared of getting hurt.
And why are you still pregnant? I really thought you would have had Baby D by now!

I ran the Rugged Maniac in April this year – I was terrified of the fire pits, 12 foot wall climbs, and ESPECIALLY the barbed wire crawls, but in the end it was the most fun I’ve ever had. I got a group of people together to do it – definitely the best way to become a Rugged Maniac or Warrior!

I ask myself every morning why I’m still pregnant. I think I’ll have a September baby though instead of August, so maybe Thursday?!
Fingers crossed…

I love how you and hubby have date nights each week. Do not let this fall away when baby is there. Although it won’t be possible for every week, maybe try once a month. Me and hubby make sure we get the kids off to grandparents or Auntie for once a month where they sleep over and have the entire evening to ourselves with sleep-in the following morning. So make sure this does not fall away.

I have had a waiter ask me about my food (after I had taken only a bite or two like you) but I have not ever flagged someone down to tell them how bad the food is. Honestly, I don’t think it has ever been so bad that I felt the need. I guess I’m ok with mediocre food (not sure if that is a good thing or not!)
I’ve never done a Warrior Dash — looks like you hubby had fun though!
Katie @ Legally Fit says
Dinner looks so great! I love that you guys are enjoying date nights before Baby D gets here.
I definitely want to run the warrior dash next year! I ran a mud run last year with a similar premise (though not quite as many obstacles)- it was quite the experience!
Brooke @ Veggie Table says
Looks like a great weekend – that last picture made me laugh out loud!

I don’t usually tell the server I don’t like it but once on a trip in Portland, OR my mom and I couldn’t even touch our entrees’ they were so disgusting! He totally knew too and took them back and didn’t charge us. He felt terrible which made us feel bad, but there was no way we could eat them. : (
I’ve never seen anything like that race! Looks so funny!
Maria says
Haha. Great last picture.
I hate complaining in restaurants and I’ll usually just say that I’m full and I’ll take the rest home. Then go some place else for dessert! But really, that’s what they are there for, so no need to feel bad!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
gotta love date night! They mean the world to me now…especially after two kids. Such an important tradition to have.
Lauren B says
I am betting that this will be your last Friday date night as 2! 🙂
I typically don’t complain, but I find that the higher the price of the food, the more willing I am to say something! If I am shelling out 25 bucks for an entree, for example, I will be sure to let them know if it’s not edible. Of course, I do it as sweetly as possible so they don’t spit in my next round! HA!
Brittany says
I hope you’re right!!
And I agree- I don’t complain, but when the dish cost $22 and they asked, I felt like I might as well be honest and cross my fingers for a spit-free version next time 😉
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers says
I thought about doing warrior dash. It looks like so much fun, but I wasn’t sure if it was worth the $, especially since the times/dates I wanted were sold out.
Sam says
Omg those goat cheese nuggets look so cool! I bet the salad was delish. Sucks about your main dish but at least you weren’t charged. That’s pretty good of them. The warrior dash sounds so cool! I have heard about them EVERYWHERE. I want to do it next year too!
Donna@Life of a Happy Blonde says
Bahahahaaaa special needs port a potty, too funny!
Fried goat cheese sounds amazing, your posts always make me so hungry 🙂
Lauren says
Those goat cheese nuggets sounds absolutely amazing. I hate complaining at restaurants too 🙁 And it has to be pretty bad for me to not eat something. We have a Warrior Dash here in CO (I think it just happened this weekend!), but I’ve never done it. I can run and all, but otherwise I’m pretty un-athletic. You do not want to see me trying to jump over any flaming hurdles…
Jen says
you are too cute with the portajohn photo. we thought about doing the warrior dash but all of the good time slots were taken by the time our group wanted to sign up.
Lauren says
Like I commented earlier, the Rugged Maniac comes to Asheboro, NC every April for the Charlotte/Triad run. It. Is. So. Amazing. I say you should definitely sign up for next year’s – you’ll have tons of time to train before the event!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
You look so cute! And 9 mos pregnant is definitely special needs 🙂
I once had to send a burger back 3 times! It came with mushrooms which I didn’t order. When I asked for it to be redone, it came back with one last mushroom on it meaning they just scraped them off. Then when I was halfway done with the third burger they brought me, I found ANOTHER mushroom! Clearly they didn’t really care that I could have been allergic to them! Finally the manager came out and apologized and I got my and my friend’s meals for free!
Heather says
The Warrior Dash looks very similar to the Spartan Race my older sister did in Ottawa. It was a very fun day the race looked so like so much fun but so intense!! I think it would be a lot of fun to sign up with friends and do one next year 🙂
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
I’m running in a warrior dash this fall, so excited to get dirty!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Thanks for the Warrior Dash pictures! My little sister ran in one but I never got to see photos of her…just hear about the fire and the mud and whatnot.
Our conversation about it went something like this:
“So Sarah, I was in a Warrior Dash! I ran through fire and through tunnels and rolled around in the mud! It was AWESOME.”
“Yeah. For YOU.”
[Let’s just say the weird warrior tendencies don’t run in MY blood. ;)]
