Happy Friday the 13th! Back in the day, I would have squealed with the excitement of renting scary movies and making the most of this infamous date, but now I can’t even watch the trailers for scary movies. I kid you not, I close my eyes and sing lalala to myself. Whyyyyy, whyyyy watch something so terrifying when there is already enough scary stuff out there in the world. You know, like the fact that high-waisted pants are making a comeback. (Shudders)
Ok, I digress, but happy Friday regardless!
Per usual, I’m jamming a bunch of unrelated topics into a post because it’s Friday and I’m feeling footloose and fancy free. Let’s start with good news.
We got Koda’s preliminary test results back yesterday and her lymphoma is B-cell instead of T-cell, which is the less aggressive form! We were thrilled to hear this and the vet seems really pleased with how everything is going. You know that dogs live in the moment, they don’t dwell on past or future the way we do, and I have no doubt that Koda is wondering what she did so right to suddenly be getting the extra peanut butter and permission to be on the bed. All I care about right now is that our sweet pup is feeling good and loving life. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
My mom came up for a couple days midweek, undoubtedly after hearing me fall apart last week, and it was wonderful to have her here. Hailey was spoiled rotten with attention after seeing Mema and Nana in the same week.
I just love having helping hands anytime I can get them. I’ve said it before, but those that live down the street from your family, I’m way jealous.
While we are talking about mom, I definitely inherited my eating preferences from her. We both love salty food (pickles please!)
and adore leftovers for lunches that are veggie-heavy.
We also both struggle with dressing ourselves. Evidently I inherited my missing fashion gene from her. And don’t worry, she’s not offended by that; though she always looks great, she is nodding along and smiling because we both hate clothes shopping.
With that, I’ve been getting Stitch Fix deliveries on the regular (affiliate link), but haven’t posted much about them because I’m trying to figure out my own personal style and trying lots of different items. I have the Cher Horowitz problem that things I think look really good on me in the mirror end up looking baggy and unflattering on me in pictures, so I’m working hard at getting comfortable wearing more figure flattering clothes and seeing how they look in selfies. I know a sense of style is incredibly personal, but I loved how this jacket fit me!
I think it will work really well for me for day to day… you know, if I ever decide to change out of yoga pants.
Hmm… what else?
Oh, more about my girls?
Sure, no problem! (Wait, why are you rolling your eyes…)
Kaitlyn is such a joy. She’s the happiest little busy body of an 8 month old and will keep me on my toes for years to come, no doubt, but my goodness she is such a sweet little thing.
However, we are totally at the age where going out to eat as a family is pointless. She can wiggle out of any highchair and prefers to try and crawl across the table. Between wrangling her and keep Hailey focused on her food and in a chair, going out to eat is nothing less than a five ring circus.
With that in mind, I’d like to offer my apologies to the new Famous Toastery (Ok, I’m just going to keep calling it Toast) for our stellar appearance yesterday morning.
I’m sure everyone exhaled heartily when we finally left.
However, locals, the Mooresville location is now open and the people are just as nice and the food is just as delicious, so go check them out!
Have I yammered on enough for one post? I think so.
Let’s chat…
Scary movies, love or hate?
Any Valentine’s Day plans?
Eaten anywhere fun and delicious lately?
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
Yay for Koda’s results! And I also love that black jacket.
We are going out to eat for VDay and redeeming gift certificates for massages Sunday that we received for Christmas. I cannot freaking wait.
Kelly says
I 100% agree with you on scary movies. I used to love them but now they give me anxiety for weeks.
Brynn says
No on the scary movies, but yes on your jacket and the meals! I want to come eat at your house because you make everything look delicious!
Andrea says
Where have I eaten lately that was delicious? My own home! Inspired by your post which included a picture of Chana Masala I’ve been diving a little bit into Indian cuisine at home lately with the help of hippressurecooking.com. Her recipes include times for electric pressure cookers and include few Indian dals. Plus, isn’t tumeric really good for you??
Happy to read Koda is doing better. Praying you have the opportunity to make a million more happy memories with her!
Valentine’s Day…wings and antipasto. Not super romantic but a guilty pleasure of mine AND I don’t have dishes to do.
Have a great weekend!
Andrea
Brittany Dixon says
Yes, tumeric IS really good for you (the brain especially) and now I’m clicking over to hippressurecooking to check it out so thank you for sharing!! π Have a great weekend!
Andrea says
Definitely check out her 1-Minute Quinoa and her cookbook is AMAZING!
You have a wonderful weekend too!

Valentine’s: I’m presenting my famous Valentine’s meal for the love of my life, your Mama, and Grandma Betty! Champagne, Caesar salad, twice baked potato, grilled filet mignon, fine wine, followed with chocolate truffles. And, of course, specially chosen cards, with a poem for Sherry. Such fun!
Brittany Dixon says
A dad classic that never fails to impress! Sounds delicious- send some up my way as I’m pretty sure we’ll be kicking it with pizza and wine (though that’s not too bad either ;))
Molly says
Yay Koda! And I love that jacket! Billy was at Toast yesterday morning, too. Haha. He keeps hitting up all our new restaurants with work and I need to get out more!
JessicaE says
Your Mom seems SO wonderful!
Happy happy thoughts for Koda. <3

I’m so glad to hear about you pup. Its almost like I wrote the part of you describing eating out haha I have a 1 year old girl ( last month) and almost 3 years old boy (next month) it’s caos
Marjorie @APinchOfHealthy says
My mom and I both struggle with that fashion gene too! But we can make a yummy dinner like nobody’s business. Priorities, I guess. π
I like that jacket. Super cute!

Eating out with a baby truly is pointless! My little nugget had her nine month appointment at her doc in Asheville this week, so we thought it would be a good idea to out to lunch after.
We were wrong.
I had barely had a few bites of my salad before the screaming commenced, and I ended up breastfeeding her in the car (I tried in the restaurant but she wasn’t comfortable and it just wasn’t working out) while my husband ate alone. Then when she was done I went back in and crammed some food down my throat so we could get out of there and hit Trader Joe’s before it was time for her nap. Such is the life of a mom!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh gosh yes haha, I’ve totally been there!! Makes you kick yourself for paying for the restaurant experience and food without actually get to enjoy it, but hey it happens π
Kathleen Ojo says
I’ve never liked scary movies really, but now that I’m a mama, I even hate the trailers! My husband is from Nigeria and moved to this country as an adult, and he hates them but find the whole thing fascinating. At first he didn’t understand why they were so popular. His conclusion is that since the majority of Americans lead relatively sheltered lives, never really experiencing terror or violence firsthand, there’s a darker part of us that’s fascinated by all things scary. For him, having grown up in the time and place he did, he’s seen a number of truly terrible and violent things, and doesn’t understand why anyone would willingly seek out those visuals. It’s an interesting perspective.
Anyway. Happy Valentines Day tomorrow! We’re hibernating to avoid the crowds (awww, introverts in love) but are planning a date for the Monday holiday π
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my gosh, what an interesting point and I totally think your husband’s perspective makes sense. It’s probably why I used to love them (when I was in a blissful bubble) but now prefer something happy and uplifting instead.
PS- we tend to be introverts in love on Valentine’s Day too π

Hi there! First of all, I’m SO HAPPY to hear about Koda. That’s wonderful news! Second, I’m with you on scary movies! I used to watch them but now that I’m “all grown up,” just watching the nightly news is a horror movie for me, so I refuse to watch them now! As for Valentines Day, our date was last weekend when my daughters daycare hosted a “date night.” We went to a new, fun place called Birroteca. If you’re ever in Baltimore, I recommend it! So actual Valentines Day will be a low key, dinner and movie at home kinda night :). OH – I meant to comment on your post yesterday. I love seeing how you handle teaching your girls about food. I learn a lot from you. I especially like that you don’t use food as a reward and that “food is food” whether it be broccoli or a milk shake. I think that’s super important. So I’m curious how you plan to handle fast food – like when you’re being begged for a kids meal. Will you cave? What will you tell them about that particular food? I dread the day I have to explain it to my daughter, much like I dread the day she begs me to go to a circus. Ugh! Anyway, sorry for the book :). Have a great weekend!
Brittany Dixon says
I’m not quite sure how I’ll handle fast food because I’ll have to see what the situation is like when it arises. We rarely eat fast food now, just the occasional Chick-fil-A. At 3, Hailey does not know what a kids meal is, so it’s not a battle I have to face yet. I’m sure at some point I will be open to talking to her more about food choices, but I will probably wait until she is older and can grasp the idea.
Helpful huh? π
Have a great at home Valentines; we will probably be doing the same!!

Happy to hear that about Koda! That jacket looks great on you. π
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables says
Oh friend… going out with Baby D is also a challenge. He doesn’t know what an inside voice is. He LOVES to scream at the top of his lungs the entire time… happy or mad. I feel ya!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Oh that Toastery looks yummy! I’m excited for 50 Shades of Grey tonight!!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Major YAY for good news about Koda! I’m glad she is loving life π
Julie says
So glad to hear the good news about Koda!! And aren’t moms (g-mas) great?! So sweet of yours to come after hearing you were upset. I have one of those good ones, too. π
That jacket looks great on you! You should definitely stick w/ the form-fitting stuff. You have a great figure – show it off! (Besides, baggy stuff is never flattering. It’s human nature to try to cover ourselves up when we’re not feeling our best, but form-fitting is always more flattering.)
Lauren Brennan says
Happy happy news about Koda!
I realized late into my twenties that I most definitely did NOT need to subject myself to scary movies to be “cool” anymore. Now, if even a scary movie preview comes on, I will mute it- because isn’t the scariest part the creepy music and sound effects?
Julia @ LordStillLovesMe says
Iβm continuing to pray for Koda! Itβs so encouraging to hear that so far things are looking up. I know how important pets can be to our lives, and I am beyond thrilled to hear that your sweet pup is feeling better.
I love pickles too! Grr⦠now I want a salty pickle. AND an omelet. I cannot read your blog when I am hungry, Brittany!
