Good morning-I hope you had a great weekend! We certainly did. Thursday night we took off to Nana and Papa John’s house in Georgia. The girls were troopers, but don’t sleep in the car, so they crashed hard into bed once we got there. Friday morning we woke to cloudy, drizzly skies, which were perfect for sipping tea, chatting and watching home videos from Legacybox.
Per usual, Kaitlyn was all about joining in. I love the mornings we can all just chit chat and relax.
After lunch, David and I took off to Atlanta, sans kiddos! We had plans to go to a concert at Chastain Park, but were unsure if the weather would hold off. We made it to Jay and Stacy’s place and decided we’d take our $0.99 ponchos and just go for it. The four of us met up with David’s brother, Chris, and his wife, Hilary, at their house to pack up the coolers and head to the venue.
It was first concert at Chastain Park and it. was. incredible. It’s an intimate venue and luckily for us, the weather mostly held out. We sat out our spread of food and drinks and our evening of jamming out with Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson began.
We had such a ball, eating, drinking, dancing and chatting. Willie Nelson was incredible, putting on an even better show than I expected. It just so happened that former president Jimmy Carter was in attendance too and the show culminated with he and his wife singing Amazing Grace on stage with Willie. Truly epic.
The next morning I was still humming Whiskey River Take My Mind as Stacy cooked up a delicious breakfast casserole and we all kept chatting over coffee.
The best friends are those that make it feel like no time has passed at all when you get together and we loved chatting with Jay and Stace so much that we didn’t end up heading back until after noon.
We arrived back at Nana and Papa John’s house in time for an afternoon tea party…
complete with pearls.
We followed up the tea party with fishing!
Camp Nana and Papa John is the best. That evening mom and dad had generously set a sitter up for us and the clouds cleared out, making for the most beautiful sunset cruise conditions.
You would think I would have thought to move the pretzel bag for that picture, but clearly you would be wrong.
We boated around, chatting and snacking, soaking in the gorgeous weather before ending up at Gaby’s for dinner.
It’s such a rarity to have an adult evening out and we thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and company. It was really special to have time to connect and laugh without chasing children.
We headed home in the moonlight to find the kiddos sound asleep.
The next morning Nana and the girls made our favorite smoothies.
Then we packed up and headed back to Charlotte. The entire weekend was wonderful and was one of those that really makes you feel like you were able to disconnect mentally from the daily grind.
We stopped midway home for a picnic lunch at Whole Foods in Augusta (which has a great area for kids to run BTW!)
Then, armed with my chicken-scratch list,
we stopped once more for groceries closer to home. I improvised a bit from the list, as you can see, and got suckered in to buying one of these as well. Luckily it turned out to be pretty cool and the kids love it!
Once home it was the usual- food prep, laundry and settling back in to prepare for the week ahead.
What was the highlight of your weekend?!

Looks like so much fun! My boyfriend and I try to make a point of doing special things when we see couple friends since it isn’t often our crazy NYC schedules align, and we are actually trying to plan a country concert outing 🙂

My four year old had her first ballet recital, and she was ADORABLE! Loved seeing her prance around on stage in her tutu. My husband and I LOVE Chastain! I grew up in Decatur, GA and my favorite was Paul Simon about 10 years ago. So glad you got to experience it.

Oh my gosh I’ll bet that was so cute!! Hailey has her first recital soon and I just can’t wait! I grew up in Kennesaw/Marietta area so I can’t believe I had never been to Chastain. I’ll bet Paul Simon was great there!!

I love that song too and it was really an emotional moment. Everyone was holding up candles and it was all really beautiful!

The only shows that I’ve ever been to at Chastain haven’t allowed outside food. I’ve always wanted to go to one that does. I guess the more rock-ish bands don’t.
