1. I have a diagnosis for my recent illness. It’s call superwoman syndrome. Be warned, all woman are susceptible. Basically I never gave myself a true chance to recover and yesterday afternoon when I got sick again, in the parking lot of Hobby Lobby and again when I got home, I realized I had to stop. Despite a million things to do today, I’m limiting myself to a few morning errands and that’s it.
2. I must brag on David. When he got home at 8, I was curled up in bed, exhausted and perhaps a bit weepy about things I didn’t get a chance to do. He brought me a potato and water, then took it upon himself to do ALL the laundry, clean up the house, do all the dishes and then ask if there was anything else on my plate he could handle while I just laid there. Did I pick a great teammate for life or what?
3. I’m worried about the amount of weight I’ve lost in the past week. I’m 99% sure it’s dehydration and I’m drinking as much water as possible, but it has me unnerved. If it doesn’t come back on quickly I’m calling my doctor.
4. Despite not working out for almost a week now, my legs feel exhausted by the end of the day. Exhausted like I’ve done lunges all day long. Perhaps there is truth to this chasing-a-toddler all day theory?
5. I feel guilty when I have nothing of substance to post on here. I know, that’s dumb. After being sick and finishing my chicken noodle soup, I haven’t had much to eat and no purposeful exercise. After all, my dinner last night was a potato. If I’m not much better by tomorrow, I’ll probably spare you another woe-is-me post.
6. Emails and such- I’m behind and I’m so sorry. I’ll get to them soon. I really love hearing from you and hate when I can’t respond right away!
7. What an uplifting post today, huh? I try to keep life is perspective, but I’ll be honest, I had a bit of a pity party yesterday afternoon. Trying to pull it together.

Hang in there. Being sick is not fun, being sick and pregnant with a toddler is really not fun.
Blessing for better health are on the way.
Kathy says
Just take care of yourself and the rest will fall into place. If all your Christmas plans to get done–it is still ok. 🙂 What a great husband too! 🙂 And if you have read anything about Dr. John McDougall–potatoes are GREAT for you!!! Take care and I hope you feel better soon!
Kathy says
That should read–if all your Christmas plans -don’t get done–it will all be ok. 🙂
Christina says
I hope you feel better Brittany! Take care of yourself above all else, and the rest will fall into place! And as much as I love reading your blog every morning over coffee, it’s okay to take a blogging break too!
Karen says
Oh, you poor thing!! Hang in there and I know it’s hard with a toddler but try and stay positive. Hailey knows you don’t feel good and she’s the sweetest. xoxo
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Everyone deserves a pity party every now and then! Feel better!
Linda says
I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself and take a break. It’s hard to do it all and you don’t have to. Especially now that you are pregnant and have a toddler that’s a lot on your body. Try to relax – I know thats easier said than done, but sounds like you need it.
Marjorie says
We all have days like that. Hope you get to feeling better soon. I found that when I was worried about by pregnancy, I always felt better to call and talk to the nurse to answer any questions. I had a stomach bug (I guess that’s what it was) 2 weeks before I gave birth and I was so worried. Hang in there!
Tiffany says
Ugh…please rest and take care of yourself! You don’t need to apologize to anyone except that you may need to apologize to yourself and baby #2 for not putting you two first! Hope you feel better!
Daren says
Feel better soon!
Paulina says
As others have said, take care of yourself! I was sick with a cold and sinus infection for 6 weeks this pregnancy because I never took the time to rest. It’s hard to justify taking a day off. Maybe send Hailey to a sitter for the day and stay home and rest as much as you can. And read this: http://moreclaremore.com/mamas-little-holidays/
It’s a nice reminder to be kind to ourselves, especially during this busy time of year.

Thank you so much for sharing that link! It was exactly what I needed to read. <3

what a super husband and dad. so sweet. feel better soon and give yourself a break!

Feel better and rest! The weight loss is purely water; try Pedialyte, Gatorade or a electrolite replacement drink. Pure water may not taste as good. Ginger tea would be good, along with chicken broth or light chicken soup.
Katie D. says
Try drinking some gatorade or coconut water. Something with some calories in it. It may help you perk up and with the dehydration!
katie says
Do not feel guilty! Keep on drinking, and get better! I am so glad David can make his way around the house, you are a lucky lady!

I’m super confused as to why David brought you a potato with your water? Am I reading that wrong…? lol. I feel silly asking but I don’t get it. Feel better and I hope you really do rest!!
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, just because I was nauseous but hungry, so he made me a plain baked potato and water (to make sure I was staying hydrated). So super secret cure there 😉
Alex @ The Really Ones says
RELAX… hang in there momma
Lauren B. says
I hope you feel better really soon. There’s nothing worse than being a mom to a toddler (and pregnant!) while being so sick. Bless your heart. Prayers for you today!!
Maria says
Ick! Not fun! Hang in there and remember that you don’t have to do and be everything! It’s so easy to get caught up in making sure that things are perfect and to-do lists are checked off…I struggle with that on a normal day, let alone being sick and pregnant!
Also, that holiday video card was brilliant. I hope I’m a cool parent like that one day…though I’m sure if those kids were older, they’d be cringing 🙂
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Feel better ASAP!!!
Kathryn says
I am a RN and a mother and I would recommend calling your OB’s office to talk to a nurse about the illness/weight loss. I had a terrible stomach bug when I was pregnant and had to go to the hospital for fluid replacement. It really eased my nerves to know that my baby was getting all the fluids and electrolytes she needed. It sure wouldn’t hurt just to make a quick phone call to get some guidance to know you’re doing the right thing.
Ashley says
Oh Brittany!!
I’m sending you a hug from Seattle. I am so sorry. Being sick is terrible especially during the holidays. There is always so much to do. Know that we all love you and are rooting for you to be healthy soon. I hope if it doesn’t ease up in the next day or 2 you go get checked out. I’m hopeful you feel better as the day goes on. Sometimes overdoing while sick makes it take 2x as long to rocover…not that I’m guilty of that ;).
It’s so hard for people like us to sit still and lay low. I had my first pregnancy spooky sympton Friday night when my feet swelled up HUGE. I had done too much and my body said slow down. I listened to the nurse and put my feet up way more on a weekend then I have in years (yes, I still had a dinner party Sat night but relaxed all day prior to). It is tough to chill out. I’m not good at and I can’t imagine having a 2 yro.
In my humble opinion you are doing fantastic and Hailey, baby, David & Koda are VERY lucky to have you. Chin up. It will get better! Big hug!
Happy Holidays
Verna says
Sorry you aren’t feeling better! Rest up, mama!!
Jen says
🙁 I’m so sorry that you’re still sick and really hope you feel better soon. David gets a high five for being so awesome last night!
I’ve been dealing with superwoman syndrome too. After starting to get braxton hicks last week, I cut my exercise intensity and am trying my best to eliminate stress in my life and relax every night. And you know what? No fake contractions since Sunday. I guess mamas do need breaks!
Ashlee@HisnHers says
Not sure if this could be it, but my arms and legs always feel heavy and tired when I’m dehydrated. That’s usually the first thing that tips me off! Maybe that is why your legs have been so tired?
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Hang in there!! Sometimes you just need a life-break! I know feeling sick might not be the most fun way to take one, but I’m glad you have David to help out!
Tara@PNWRunner says
Oh No! I hope you feel better soon! It sucks being sick or getting diagnosed with an illness. I am sure you’ll be up and at it again soon! 🙂
Danica @ It's Progression says
You most definitely have no need to feel guilty about missing a post or writing about how you’re feeling – we all love you and hope you’re feeling better ASAP! (just said a prayer for you…relax now so that you can feel fully charged and healthy soon!)
Susan says
I feel for you! But it’s fantastic that your husband helps out! Hope you feel better soon, and I’m sure your blog readers will understand if you take some much needed rest. Sending positive energy your way!

Lisa says
Hey~I love that you’re honest! And I feel you on the stressboat, I got myself sick and had to chill out today too…Hope you feel tiptop again soon 🙂
Lauren says
I really enjoy reading your blog – healthy foods, what Hailey is up to and your pregnancy (congrats!). I wondered if you had a few minutes (ha!) to tell me how you started out with your blog. My son was recently diagnosed with a condition, and I think I might want to start a blog about our journey. Enough about me, I hope you’re feeling well very soon! 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Hi Lauren, I’m so sorry to hear about your son. I hope it is nothing too serious.
The easiest way to start a blog (in my opinion) is through blogger.com. The set up is very easy. Most bloggers switch to wordpress because it allows you to control more of the design and elements in general (though it’s more complicated) and you can put ads, etc on it. If you are looking for a spot to share your journey, I’d probably start with blogger. If you want it to turn into something more, perhaps go with wordpress.
Good luck and I’ll be thinking of you! <3
