Just Do It

Yesterday I came across a note…

Dear self,

I can’t find the time to exercise.

It’s really busy around here lately and for the past week I’ve had a little congestion that seems to be sticking around.

I have presents to wrap and cookies to bake. It’s Christmas time- that’s what I should be focusing on anyway, right?

I just can’t find the time.

Laundry is piling up and there are emails to get to during nap time.

When the day is done, I’m tired. My energy is drained.

I’m sorry self, but I just can’t find the time.

Love, Me

I know what she wanted. She’s been here before. She wanted a big hug and a sympathetic look. She wanted me to tell her that it’s ok, that everyone hits this point this time of year. She wanted me to tell her to not worry about it, that she could just relax and get moving again when January comes around. So I wrote back…

Dear Me,

You’re right. It’s impossible to find time… which is why you have to make it.

You don’t find time to do things that are important to you, you make time.

Exercise keeps your immune systems fighting strong, it gives you energy and it makes your feel accomplished. Just do it.

Exercise will help clear your cluttered mind of stress and make the holidays a happier time. Just do it.

Exercise will make you feel better when you don your gay apparel… or that red Christmas dress.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure that if you have time to keep up-to-date on the latest episode of Nashville, that you have time to exercise.

Let’s stop whining now, ok?

Love, Self

Message received.

Laces tied.

just do it- walking to the gym

Treadmill approached.

3.1 miles ran in 35 minutes.

just do it- treadmill run

Curls released.

After glow realized.

just do it- sweaty stretch

Don’t wait until January.

Have a little heart to heart.

Make the time.

Just Do It.

LOVE this!!!! I 100% agree that there is no need to wait for the new year and that there’s always time when you make it.

Agree!! I have a 5 month old and totally a germaphob so I don’t want to take her the the nursery at my gym. I’m trying to figure out what to do—the answer is prob to get a treadmill at home. :) Santa?! You listening?!

But germs are good for babies!! Its scary but it makes them healthier and strengthens their immunity.

Yeah, seriously, you’ll be doing your kid (and yourself) a huge favor by exposing her to other kids, germs and the like. She may get a few more colds now but she’ll have a much stronger immune system when she’s older and really needs it! I get sick all the time and i’m convinced it’s because my parents took a similar approach to yours.

If it’s important, you will MAKE the time to do it. I try to make exercise as routine as brushing your teeth. It’s extremely important to your health! :) Good job on getting it done!

I’ve been preaching this for a few weeks now, you have to MAKE the time. If you have an hour to spend on Facebook, you have an hour to kick your ass in the gym. I used to think that there was no point to working out or watching what I eat during December and now I realize how totally stupid that thinking was! Yes, there are things I plan on celebrating this month, but in between those things, I can eat clean and train mean and dirty. LIFE will always be there, there is ALWAYS a holiday or event to look forward to, it’s what you do in between those events that counts :)

Yah! Love this. Just do it! There’s no point of waiting for the New Year when today is just as good! The new year isn’t some magic starting point, it’s just another day! And what’s better than right this moment to improve yourself! We shouldn’t wait if we want to improve something in our lives!

Thanks for the reminder! This is such a busy time of year but we aren’t doing ourselves any favors by not focusing on our own well being. :)
