So lately I’ve had a like affair (not nearly strong enough to be considered love) with oats. Eggs haven’t sounded appealing to me since I saw this in the grocery store:
Quail eggs? OK, I can get behind that. But duck eggs? For some reason it made me so sad, so I skipped buying a dozen of the regular chicken eggs. I’m certain that this is just temporary, but anyway, yesterday I ate oats for breakfast instead.
Oats made with almond milk, peanut butter, 1/2 sliced banana and chia seeds. It gave me just the start I needed to get through a power hour of HOT YOGA!!
More on that later
After sweating like crazy (the only expression I can think of that involves a lot of sweat is ‘sweating like a whore in church’ and that just feels incredibly inappropriate to write on the blog… but I guess I just did….). Moving on. After yoga, I was glad I brought a snack!
Wholesome Goodness sent me a variety of their products that will be launching in the Charlotte area soon to try out. They’re healthy products that will be made available at a good price, and their mountain mix has chocolate in it. Must I say more? YUM.
When I got back home, I was hungry again.
I finished up the last black bean burger on top on greens with grape tomatoes, feta and Newman’s Own Balsamic, then spent some time doing work outside so Koda bug could enjoy the spring-like weather.
Then… I got hungry again. Story of my life.
More leftovers! Brown rice, refried beans, sautéed veggies, sour cream, cilantro and salsa.
Have I mentioned that Hailey stares at me and chews when I eat? She does it sometimes when I’m not eating, but I think the girl is excited to try some food. I’m still going to wait about another two weeks, but gave her a spinach leaf to play with. At first she wasn’t sure what to do…
Then I guess she decided she liked it. Like mother like daughter.
At this point I pulled it out of her mouth and let her chew on my water bottle instead.
Ok, ok, enough baby pics (as if there is such thing )
I found myself needing a snack before dinner, so I decided on a glass of almond milk. Except, I don’t usually drink almond milk by itself… until I found these little gems!
I found these Got Milk Drinking Straws at Target and thought they looked too neat not to try out. They are straws with little flavor beads inside that flavor the milk as you sip. They come in strawberry, chocolate and cookies and cream. I know, it doesn’t exactly fall into my wannabe hippie mind frame, but COOOOOOOOOL, and they aren’t that bad.
Plus Hailey thinks I’m the funniest person ever when I blow bubbles into my milk and I pretty much live to make her laugh. Almond milk (COOKIES AND CREAM FLAVOR!!!) held me over until dinner.
Grilled (on my panini maker) salmon with roasted veggies (red potatoes, onions, carrots, zucchini and squash) and a little bit of Annie’s Mac and Cheese. I actually find it pretty flavorless, so I’m not a big fan of the mac ‘n cheese.
Finally, I finished the day off on a sweet note.
Have you found a product lately that you just think is awesome?
I wish I would have created those milk straws…
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Those straws are genius. We have annie’s mac n cheese at least once a week over here but I agree, it is pretty plain. I’ll usually try to throw a bunch of veggies or spices in to kick up the flavor. Especially if we’re eating it as our main meal and not just a little side like on your plate.
Brooklyn @ Veggie Table says
Oh my goodness – those pictures of Hailey and the spinach leafer are toooooooooooooo cute!!! And I love me some crumbled veggie burger salads! Looks like a delicious day of eats!
Katie @ Legally Fit says
Those straws are awesome! I rarely drink milk (only with baked goods) but they would definitely give me incentive to do so!
My fave new product is this sugar and chocolate grinder from Trader Joe’s- I put it in my coffee every morning…l’m kind of obsessed with it!
Brittany says
I’ve heard they’ve had some cool grinders at Trader Joe’s lately. I must try some out!
Sabrina says
I need more Hailey pics please.
I love that you do WIAW because you give me ideas on what kinds of portions I should be eating. I’m 5′ 7″ and a lot heavier than you so I imagine I can have a heavier afternoon snack (maybe about 200 cals more) but keep the rest of my portions just like yours. I am going to try that this week and hope that R doesn’t starve again.
Brittany says
Hope R doesn’t starve?… did you milk decrease when you cut back on portions?
Sabrina says
Yeah. Every time I lower my calories R starts nursing every hour starting 1-2 days later. I bring my calories back up and he goes back to nursing every 2-3. It’s a bummer since I see you and Emily having no problems with that. It seems like I have to eat a ridiculous amount of calories and water to keep up my supply (like 2200 calories before exercise!)
Brittany says
That’s so interesting! I keep saying I’m going to count calories one day just to get an idea of what amount I’m eating, but I’m too darn lazy. I just eat when I’m hungry and definitely have to drink a lot of water. I seem to notice that my weight drops more if I don’t exercise- it has me wondering if I’m not eating enough on exercise days to keep up with what my body needs. Who knows!
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
hahahaha spinach leaf face = priceless
Maggie says
Quail eggs are SO good !
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I’m loving on those straws – so cool!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I just got some chocolate Greek Yogurt (Oikos brand) that it delicious! You can’t go wrong with chocolate! 😉
Brittany says
mm… I’ve heard the chocolate is good, but haven’t tried it yet!
Lauren B. says
Brittany- I totally get the egg thing. I was a major egg lover until the day of my first prenatal appointment when my doctor said during my ultrasound, “and there’s the yolk sack…”. Yolk sack, what?!!! From that day on, I can’t do it to that poor little yolk sack! Ha! Sorry to those of you that I just totally put off of eggs forever. 🙂
P.s. I want to squeeze Hailey’s cute little cheeks!!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
oh my word, I NEED to try these straws. where in Tar-jay did you find those suckas?
Brittany says
They were set up at the end of an aisle, so I’m not sure where they are usually, but yes, you must find them!!
Rachael says
Ah, gummed spinach. We’re in that phase too – my girl can go at a carrot stick or avocado chunk like a pro :).
We used to have ducks, and while the eggs are pretty tasty, I think the experience of eating them was forever marred by my affection for the kid’s book “Make Way for Ducklings”….
Brittany says
Oh my gosh, I loved that book! Now I’ll never be able to eat duck again…. good thing I didn’t like it much to begin with 🙂
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
Hailey and spinach is so adorable! haha.
I can’t wait to hear about hot yoga! I’ve been wanting to try it.
Liz @ IHeartVegetables says
Wholesome goodness sent me some of their stuff too and I’m LOVING it! their little trail mix packs are great, and I’ve loved their chocolate almond milk!
Brittany says
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited to try heir chocolate almond milk!
Tt in nyc says
Choco almond milk rocks. my. world. Hot with cinnamon is amazing, and semi frozen into slushy ice is also rediculous.
Parita @ myinnershakti says
What a great idea with the straws! I wish I were creative enough to come up with something like that.
what katie's baking says
i saw those milk straws too! you’ve pushed me to want to buy them now haha.
your daughter is adorable!
and your eats look awesommeee. yummy!
JenRD says
So cute! Maya started staring at me when I ate too–it was a sign to me that she was ready for some food of her own! She wasn’t too thrilled with the baby cereal, but I puréed her some carrots today, and she seemed much more interested in those.
My fave products lately are Silk Dark Chocolate Almond Milk, and Stonyfield Farms Chocolate Underground yogurt. I’m not a milk drinker, but I want to keep my calcium intake up while I am breast feeding, so these make for great incentives!
Kristin says
those are the CUTEST pictures of Hailey eating the spinach!!!!! her expression is priceless! what a great moment to capture! 1st food!!!! Sort of lol 😉
christina says
ew duck eggs? REALLY? i can’t eat eggs anymore either. just grosses me out. i’m glad we’re both pescatarians at the same time!! 🙂 i’m loving it. are you?
blackhuff says
I do know about those straws. You get it here as well but I don’t like buying them anymore as the first ingredient stated in it, is sugar 🙁
Duck eggs is not something you find in our stores, which is cool because I too would feel sad if I see that in my local store.
Lovely meals you had yesterday.
Jules says
We have had those milk straws here in the UK for a while, they are so cool and my kids love them 🙂 I do too if I am honest 😉
