Life with my 4 Month Old

by Brittany on January 19, 2012 · 40 comments

Hailey is 1/3 a year old! Wait? Does anyone say that? I guess I could say 4 months, but 1/3 a year sounds much more fitting.

Hailey smile

Hailey and I have become pretty tight over the last 4 months since she came into this world and every day I find myself enjoying her more and more. We laugh a lot.

Why yes, I am wearing a fuzzy pink robe. Thanks for noticing my hot mom gear.

I feel like Hailey has started learning new things every day. Some of her latest tricks include:

  • grabbing and playing with her feet

Hailey and her feet

  • babbling and singing to herself. It sounds like she has her own language

  • holding onto my shoulder when I hold her upright. It feels like a hug.

Hailey and bear

  • She giggles and laughs, especially when Hubbs tickles her under the chin or I kiss the bottom of her feet.

  • Her head control is pretty good and she enjoys sitting in the bumbo.

Hailey in bumbo

  • She is so close to being able to really use her exersaucer…

Hailey is exersaucer

  • but isn’t quite there yet.

Hailey wants out of exersaucer

  • She blows bubbles, sucks on her bottom lip and seems fascinated with her mouth.

4 month

  • She can roll over…. sporadically.

Hailey wide eyed

We had her doctor’s appointment Tuesday and she weighs 14 lbs 13.5 ounces (75th percentile), is 25 1/4 inches long (75th-90th percentile) and her head is 16.5 inches (75th percentile).

Hailey 4 month appt

She wears size 2 diapers and can’t fit into 3 month clothing anymore. She’s eating 5-6 times a day, though the 6th feeding is usually just to top her off before bed. We start the bedtime routine around 7:00pm and after bath, feeding and being wrapped up like a burrito (yes, we still swaddle), she’s down by 7:30ish. She sleeps until 6:00am when I feed her and put her right back down and she’ll snooze until 7:30ish and then is up for the day!

Hailey worm

She is going to the gym with me at least 4 days a week and it’s going well! I still try to go at off-peak hours when I can.

It may sound cheesy as can be, but I really love this little girl more than I could ever describe. I must tell her ‘Mama loves you sooooooo much’ and ‘you are sooooooooo special’ at least twenty times a day. So what if it makes her grow up with superiority issues Winking smile

And last, but not least… how bad do you want to squeeze those adorable, chunky thighs?!

Hailey cute thighs

Any questions that I didn’t cover?

I keep saying this, but I’m guessing a mama can never get tired of hearing it: she is so precious!!

Brittany January 19, 2012 at 12:49 pm

You’re right, it never gets old to hear that ;) Thank you!

Ha…I always say thatch might say I love you before mama or dada bc he hears it so much! Our daycare gave us a grwattip about the exersaucer when cj was a little small…u can stuff a blanket in with. Her so she doesn’t fall back and forward and she might like it sooner rather than later.:)

Brittany January 19, 2012 at 12:49 pm

Oh, I’ll have to try that! Great tip- thanks :)

I also have used a couch pillow under the feet while in the extrasaucer if they’re a tad short to stand up in it. Works like a charm.

I just want to start by saying I love your blog! I only wish I had found it when I was pregnant because our daughters are just a few days apart! (Your due date was two days before mine)4 months is such a fun age :-) My daughter Aubrey is doing many of the same things that Hailey is doing and her rolling is definitely sporadic which worried me a bit but I feel much better knowing that other babies her age do the same :-) Looking forward to the next 8 months! 1/3 of a year a sounds so big,,, please slow time down! :-) Nice to have other moms to relate to! Keep up the good work!

Such a cutie!

I think I may have asked you this before, but how is Koda doing with it all? My husband and I have talked more about kids lately and I’m very worried that we will not give our dog enough attention.

Reply

Brittany January 19, 2012 at 12:54 pm

I won’t lie- Koda got fat. :) We need to get her out to run more. She is actually doing very well with the new addition, but I knew she would because she is a very passive dog. She definitely doesn’t get the same attention she used to get, which makes me feel guilty. I’m really looking forward to the weather warming up so we can all go outside together. I try to make sure that Hubbs and I both give her a few uninterrupted minutes Koda time every day. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but I think it helps. Also, once Hailey goes to bed, I’ll cuddle with Koda on the couch. Even though I think she misses being the center of attention, I feel like she understands… even if that sounds weird.

yay!!! I’m so glad it turned out perfect. I hate when spaghetti squash gets overcooked, so I always try to follow the directions spot on :)

Is Hailey taking naps consistently? I find that our 4 month old Kherie has been all over the place lately and sort of crabby. I am not sure if she is just going through a growth spurt or what the deal is, I have been trying to “convince” her to nap in her crib so this may be part of it. But she is literally needing a nap it seems about every 1 1/2 hours and only napping for an hour tops. Just trying to get some perspective :)

Brittany January 20, 2012 at 6:17 am

I would have said yes, consistent, but the past 2 days Hailey has been all over the place, so I don’t know if the shots threw her off or if this is the new normal. She’s also been a little crabby. The doc did say she was working on her bottom 2 teeth, so even though I can’t feel anything poking through, it could possibly be teething. Maybe Kherie is teething? Is she drooling a lot?

Reply

Katie @ Pop Culture Cuisine January 20, 2012 at 8:21 am

I have been wondering if she was teething, because the drooling has been crazy and she just has been sort of irritable. I am hoping that is the case and she just ins’t fussy for no reason :) We are still swaddling too and I am nervous to stop because who knows how that will affect the good sleeping she is doing at night. Day time naps as I said could be better, but someone said they start to even out around 5 or 6 months, here’s hoping!

Morgan January 19, 2012 at 3:52 pm

Wow, she sleeps that long at night without waking??? When did that start? My daughter will be 8 weeks old on Saturday and the most we ever get out of her in one stretch is 3 hours. I’m hoping that changes soon because momma needs some sleep!

Reply

Brittany January 20, 2012 at 6:48 am

I don’t remember exactly when, but I got very lucky because Hailey is a good sleeper. She was sleeping 10ish hours a night by 2.5-3 months I think. Trust me, I count my blessings everyday for a good sleeper! We do still swaddle her, which I think helps. It will be interesting to see what happens when we stop.

The picture of her on her tummy made my day. So cute! Sounds like she sleeps amazingly.. I’m glad when my bubba goes 8 hours, but he’s still only 2 1/2 months. :D Something to look forward to!

It is so funny how similar out babies look! They are only a week apart in age, and hitting those milestones around the same time. They even have similar facial expressions! Maya also has those chubby thighs and cheeks which you want to pinch and bite. Hailey is adorable!

ahh I love chubby babies. My first was soo chubby and my second is tall and skinny. I keep waiting for Cassidy to get chubby but the girl sleeps too much. I guess its a fair tradeoff I shouldn’t complain about!

Congrats on your baby being a 1/3 of a year old. Love how you use this term and not 4 months :) So original.
Have a great weekend

My baby boy is also 4 months old and is so much fun, doing much of what Hailey is up to :) Someone asked you about naps…just curious, is she sleeping long naps? My LO will only go down for about 45 minutes at a time. He also doesn’t sleep as long as Hailey at night but we don’t swaddle (never really did) Enjoy her, those thighs are yummy.

PS. I also do the pillow in the exersaucer and it works

She is most certainly adorable, Brittany!

You take me back in time to when mine were babies. You know what, I am still gaga over my kids. I look at them and feel overwhelming love. It’s such a cliche but so true, having kids changes everything.

Have a great weekend!!

Hi Brittany,

I just started reading your blog and I love it! I feel like I can relate to everything you write about. I about about the same height and currently at the weight you were when you started your weight loss. I hope I can look like you some day! Your daughter is adorable. I have two girls, 4.5 and 9 months. I love having girls! My baby also has the EXACT same birth mark on her forehead! I think it is the cutest thing.
