6 Months

It looks as though W(w)AW is here to stay! I really appreciate your feedback.  I enjoy posting all my eats weekly and it was nice to hear you like it, too.  Also, sounds like a lot of you like the nutrition breakdowns- I’ll do my best to add those on to my recipes, too, if you’re interested?

Today, though, is all about the BUMP! The 6 month bump to be exact.

24 weeks c

Tuesday I graduated to 24 weeks (6 months!!) and am only a couple weeks away from my THIRD trimester. What? When did that happen?

It’s also exciting that 24 weeks is when the baby is considered viable, meaning that Baby D would have a chance at surviving if s/he chose to come out now… but I’m hoping we still have a lot more time!

Baby D weighs over 1 pound and is the length of an ear of corn.  S/he is also starting to put on fat and developing blood vessels that will turn the skin pink and allow the lungs to function (in a couple more months!)

Oh, and my uterus? Is the size of a soccer ball according to the experts. Look at me- already a soccer mom :)

Now, it’s time for the breakdown…

How I’m Feeling

Pretty darn good! Better than I ever thought I would at 6 months pregnant.  My calf cramps during the night have subsided a bit, and I’m now an expert at making my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night without opening my eyes.

What I’m Eating

Besides Indian cuisine?

IMG_8675

Hmm… not much! ;) Kidding of course.  This week has been interesting because I’ve noticed cravings (which I haven’t had in forever) return.  Mostly it’s for Indian food, but also the infamous carbs.  I’m loving bagels (shocking) and Love Grown Granola.

My appetite has been really perking up this past week, too, so I feel like I’m eating more often, which is fine.  And I’ve felt a little heartburn from time to time, which I never have experienced before.  Seems the little one loves spicy food, but my body isn’t so sure?

How I’m Workin’ It

I’m still very pleased to report that my exercise routine has been rockin’! I’m actually staying active closer to 6 days a week than my 4-5 I was shooting for.  Between incline walking on the treadmill, bike rides (I know, I could fall of…but I’m super careful!), neighborhood walks with the pup and yoga, my body stays in motion.

Yoga is now hard though.  The 60 minutes seems to drag on as I fight through triangle pose and airplane. Child’s pose is even uncomfortable.  However, after class is the best feeling- I feel relaxed and stretched out, so I’m determined to stick with it.

I’m staying active around the house, too.  Laundry (which is becoming more difficult thanks to leaning over into the washing machine) and cooking keep me busy, and I’m still cutting the grass, too!

23 weeks mowing grass

Miscellaneous

I had my 24 week appointment Tuesday and I’m measuring right on schedule!  here’s some stats from the doc:

My weight gain: 16 pounds (doctor’s scale) 16.5 pounds (my scale)

My blood pressure: 108/72

Baby’s heartbeat: high 140’s-low 150’s

Stretch marks: None so far! I’m doing my best to stay hydrated inside and out

Movement: My favorite part! I felt kicks above my belly button for the first time, and in the evenings, I swear Baby D does boot camp.  S/he goes nuts! (as I’ve shared probably too often on twitter).

On the to do list: Nursery stuff! Hopefully an update or two on nursery progress will be posted in the next update.  Right now the ‘nursery’ is still holding all of Hubbs’ beer brewing supplies…

I’m thinking of adding a poll to see how many think Baby D is a SHE vs how many think a HE.  Stay tuned- I’d love to hear your guesses :)

Looking Great Brittany! That third trimester is right around the corner! Is it going quickly for you? I feel like everyone’s pregnancy but mine are flying by, but not too much longer : ) I definitely think you should do a poll. My vote is for boy!

YEs. I love the nutrition breakdown. I know it makes for a lot more work, but I think it’s worth it. I also like the breakdown/organization of this post!!

You looks awesome at 6 months pregnant!

A poll would be great :)
It’s nice to read about women like you, who still stays active right through their pregnancies.

YAY BABIES!!! You look great :) I am jealous of how much you get out and about. I need to make more time for that. Luckily my evenings are calming down and I’ll have a chance to get more active again. Are you having any swelling issues yet?

No swelling issues, yet, but we’ll see come summer. Even my rings are still lose at this point. Hope it stays this way for a while!

I think Baby D is a girl — I don’t know why, just a feeling I have.

You are so adorable!

For some reason, I’ve been thinking a girl too…

I’m so glad you’re doing so well though!

You look amazing!

I feel like in the end we are going to have the same amount of weight gain. I was about 13 lbs at 21 weeks so seems like I’m following your path!

Is that dress in the second photo new? Where’d you find it? I heard H&M has a lot of flowy stuff so I am going to go check it out asap!!!!

It’s from Forever 21! (non maternity) One plus about being short is that normal dresses don’t ride up too high because of my belly. I’d love to check out H&M if I had one!

You look wonderful! My mom swears that you can tell when a woman is having a girl because her entire face changes. I have no clue if that’s true, but she’s had two girls and swears that girls take over your body. Haha.

You look SO adorable! I think it’s incredible that you are staying active six days a week- that’s very inspiring!

I totally think you are having a girl. Are you keeping it a secret until birth?!

Brittany May 19, 2011 at 9:36 am

I’m doing the best I can to keep it a secret until birth- that’s our plan :) Some days it’s harder than others!

I had heartburn quite a bit with my first, and I’d heard an old wives tale that the baby is growing hair when the mom has heartburn. Sure enough, she had A LOT of hair. I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks, and we could even see her hair in the ultrasound!! I’ll be interested to find out if that old wive’s tale pans out for you too. :)

I heard the same thing as Melissa about babies with lots of hair cause heartburn. I think you should do a poll, my vote is for a girl. You look great, I am impressed at how active you are, I’m not pregnant and I have a hard time getting to the gym some days. Congrats on making it to the 6 month mark, I can’t wait for more pics and updates!

Your little belly bump is so cute! I love hearing about pregnancy so I appreciate the updates! You seem to be keeping really healthy!! Good for you!! I’m not sure what I would crave but it probably wouldnt be indian food (and I know nothing spicy!)

I think it is a girl…and I can’t believe how far along you are! You are looking adorable. But seriously, the last time I saw you, you were hardly showing and now look! This is not good considering we are practically neighbors, so I insist we have lunch together next week! Maybe we can eat in…you can come over and I will fix us something delish!
