17 Weeks Left

I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 weeks since I’ve updated you on Baby D’s progress…  Where to start…

How about the Facts?

How far along? 23 weeks- in 7 days I’ll be SIX months pregnant. Wow.

Weight gain? 16 pounds of beautiful baby (it’s all baby, right?!)

23 weeks

Just how big is that baby? At 23 weeks, babies are 11 inches long and weigh over 1 pound.  I’m anxious for out appointment next week so I can get some real stats – I think Baby D is bigger than average :)

How I’m Feeling

I’m definitely starting to notice changes.  Sitting up from a reclined position is becoming more difficult (ab muscles, where did you go??).  I’m beginning to feel winded more easily, like walking up the stairs.  Once I’m exercising, I’m OK, but it takes a little while to get warmed up.

I am also getting some calf cramps in the middle of the night.  Nothing too bad, and they’re normal, but what a weird symptom!  Getting up 2x/night to use the bathroom might be causing me to notice them more.

Oh, and did I mention my snoogle?? I finally got my snoogle pillow, and what a difference it makes in sleep quality!!

What I’m Eating

Everything?  I need to get it together.  I’m eating a lot and last week, pizza, Mexican and heavy carbs like bagels and pancakes snuck in more times that I care to admit.  Oops.

This week I’m recommitting to less processed, more made-at-home whole foods.

Exercise

Though I’ve been sticking to my schedule of wogging 3x/week + prenatal yoga, it’s becoming difficult.  I’ve been experiencing some pain in my lower legs on the outsides of my calves and I’m beginning to think that wogging may need to take a backseat until September.

My new plan? Prenatal yoga 1x/week.  35 minutes of elliptical OR speed walking at incline intervals 4x/week.

I’m also going to start adding in more strength training.  Instead of saying more, I should really just say adding in SOME, since I haven’t been doing much at all.  My Y has a circuit that covers both upper and lower body.  I’m going to do half the loop each time I go to the gym.

Now that I have some new workout gear, that doesn’t stretch tight across my tummy, I’m ready to go!

The Wrap Up

Baby D’s wiggles are my favorite part of pregnancy.  When I feel kicks and bumps it makes me smile and I usually end up rubbing my belly and saying hello to my sweet baby. ‘Keep growing, strong and healthy sweet baby! We love you!’

Any questions about my pregnancy? If so, ask away- I’m an open book!

I love pregnancy updates! I’m a girly-girl in that aspect. Can’t wait until I can do my own pregnancy updates in a few years!

You look great! And don’t worry , I’m short, too (only 5’1″) so I’ll definitely be waddling by 6 months haha!

Aww!! You look great :) Great job with staying active and I am sure that your overall eating habits are really good, even if there are a few more bagels in there!

you are too cute! I was obsessed with my snoogle — it is so incredibly necessary, i can’t believe some women wait so long – makes all the difference in sleeping!

You look fantastic. Way to keep up the healthy living! And its okay for eating unhealthy now and then. I’m not even pregnant, but have fallen off the bandwagon in the past couple of weeks eating out far too much. I need to get back on track too!

I can’t believe you’re already 6 months along!! You look continue to look so gorgeous! I’m sure some of the changes you’re talking about are tough especially when they start to affect your sleep and activity level, but you seem to always take things in stride and keep very upbeat!
Seeing that pillow made me crack up because of that movie with JLo…I can’t remember what it’s called, but a guy in the movie jokes that the pillow has replaced him in the bed with his pregnant wife. Anyway, it’s a funny movie if you haven’t seen it :)

Yayyy! Baby D updates! Love it. Pregnancy updates are one of my favorite posts between you and Daily Garnish. They’re so fun to watch throughout your pregnancy.

Yay 6 months! I have that same pillow on my to-buy list, glad to know it’s worth getting!

I’m loving the little kicks and jabs too. It’s such a weird feeling! Yesterday morning I was looking down and just happened to see one, my whole belly moved – it was so funny.

I’m with you on the strength training. Before I got pregnant I preached about how much I loved it and would keep going strong during pregnancy. Yeahhh. Not so much. I need to get back in there!

You look awesome & so happy! :]

I do have one question.. is there a certain max heart rate allowed when you exercise? I wasn’t sure if there was a cut-off to how intense your workouts can be when pregnant. I’m really active right now and am afraid that once I get pregnant I won’t be able to work out as hard/much. Thanks!

Reply

Brittany May 10, 2011 at 3:18 pm

If you google it, there is a recommended heart rate max, BUT I think it’s kind of outdated. What my doctors (yes, I have multiple- haha :) ) tell me is to listen to my body and to not ‘push through it’ the way you would when you aren’t pregnant. So that’s what I’ve been listening too. It feels great to feel my heart pumping, but I am careful not to overdo it- especially with heat. I’ll probably be in the gym more than outside this summer, since overheating is dangerous to the baby.

Anastasia May 10, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Thanks! I googled it but got a lot of different information. It’s good to know that I’d still be able to work out. We’re going to tour birthing centers here soon and I’ll ask them as well but I wanted to see what your personal experience was.

Love it! You are adorable! Good work on keeping up with working out–I totally stopped when I was preggers (although I have a very active job), and I totally regret it! So hard to work back up after 10 months off!

Reply

Brittany May 10, 2011 at 3:19 pm

haha, wogging is my made up word, but I’m submitting it to Websters ;)
It’s my exercise combo of walking and jogging- WOGging!

Suzanne May 10, 2011 at 12:37 pm

So, not to sound like a total bitch, but THANK GOD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WAKING UP WITH WICKED CALF CRAMPS!!! I appreciate knowing that 1) it’s normal and 2) others who have had fairly uneventful pregnancies also experience that wretched pain haha ;) I agree about the weight training, I need to get better about that again too. Sometimes I am just tired after wearing myself out doing cardio and it’s all I want to do. God Bless prenatal yoga. It is truly wonderful. I too miss my lower abs :( I know I’ve said it before, but I love that we are only a week apart and can share our experiences with each other :)

Hooray for pregnant mommas! I hear you about the working out part though, I was super crampy with baby #2 so stopped working out to be on the safe side. And when you’re short and pregnant every single pound looks like a lot, you look amazing though!! See you Fry-day, er Friday. ;)
