Livin’ on a Prayer

Can’t get this song out of my head.

OHhhhhhhhhhhhh We’re half way there

ooooOOOHHh Livin’ on a prayer!

Because today I am officially have way through my pregnancy! Whoop whoop!  Let’s do a quick update…

How far along?

20 weeks.  I’m officially 5 months pregnant. Crazy.

Size of the baby:

A banana!  Baby D is 10 inches long (head to heel) and weighs about 11 ounces.

Total weight gain/loss:

11.5 pounds according to my home scale.  I’m beginning to imagine just how large I’m going to be come summer.  The belly is out there and has no where to grow but further out there.

20 weeks

Stretch marks?

Slathering on Bio Oil after the showering, and so far, so good.  Hope people are right when they say they’re genetic.  Mom didn’t get any.  Fingers crossed!

Food cravings:

Luckily I haven’t had many cravings.  And my appetite will rage one day, and be normal the next.  I’m doing my best to listen to my body and eat when I’m hungry.  Although bagels are fighting for a comeback, I’m trying to resist most days.

A neat fact? Baby D is drinking a few ounces of amniotic fluid each day now.  The taste of it depends on the foods I eat, and research shows that he/she will be more likely to enjoy vegetables, fruits, grains, etc if I eat plenty of them now.  Baby D will actually develop a taste for the foods I eat.  I think this is SO cool.  And extra motivation to keep wholesome food in my belly.

What I miss:

A martini.  Totally worth it, but I do look forward to my first Grey Goose martini, slightly dirty, with 3 olives and a twist.

Exercise:

Still doing it!  Wogging 3.5 miles 3x/week and prenatal yoga 1x/week.  Plus cutting the grass on the weekends and squeezing in other little walks and arm weights when I can.  I’ve noticed that it is becoming a bit more difficult with my extra belly weight, but it isn’t too bad.  And my legs are more sore afterwards and the next day.  I’m glad I’m only wogging every other day.

Movement:

All the time and it’s so much fun!  After a shower this weekend I laid down on the bed to watch my belly and was able to see Baby D kick and my belly move. Amazing!

Last night Hubbs was finally able to feel Baby D kick from the outside, too.  3 jelly beans did the trick- KICK KICK KICK! We have ourselves a strong lil bay-bay.

Milestones:

Hubbs feeling Baby D kick was obviously a huge milestone. AND I got my first pregnancy comment.  The mechanic at the oil change place said…

guy: “I hope I’m not about to be a huge jerk, but are you… umm… you know…”

me: “pregnant?”

guy: “yeah…”

me: “yes! I’m glad you can tell and just don’t think I’m chubby!”

guy: “oh no, you’ve definitely just got the belly”

me: hug and squeezes him. Ok, no I didn’t.  But it was fun :)

Spoiled Baby:

Check!  Baby D started receiving his/her first gifts!

I won’t lie… baby things are the softest, cutest things in the world!

Now off to a busy day before our doctor appointment at 4:00.  Can’t wait to hear what the doc thinks of Baby D’s growth and development! Wish us luck :)

What an exciting time! And yes, baby things are the cutest. I was just going through some of my daughter’s tiny clothes to pass to a friend, and it made me nostalgic.

So exciting the hubs got to feel baby’s kicks! Mine got to feel a couple little ones this weekend too, right after I ate my gummy prenatal vitamins. So amazing.

That comment is too funny – I love that he preempted it with an apology.

I’m longing for the day when I actually look pregnant…still not quite there yet. Each day I look down hoping I’ve “popped”. :)

So jealous that your husband got to feel your baby and that you can see him move. I have an anterior placenta so that will come later for us :( I love my doctor’s appointments. Hearing that little “whoosh whoosh” is the best! Have a great day ;)

Loving the baby updates. So funny that you can’t get that song out of your head. Joe and I love Bon Jovi and love that song – in fact it was the “last dance” at our wedding. so fun.

I love the awkward “Umm…are you, uhh…” questions, especially from men. I guess no one wants to be the guys who asks and the answer is no. You should say no next time just for a laugh!!

Ahh! I love hearing the stats on Baby D!
BTW, those little baby blankets in the last picture are SO cute! Anytime I walk past the baby aisle at Target I always want to buy stuff but then I remember I’m not there yet…haha.

Happy Half Birthday to Baby D!

Although, wait, I guess it would be happy negative 1/2 birthday, because 1/2 more gets you to zero. And then it’s not really 1/2 is it, because 9 months is only 3/4 of a year…so if the baby starts at -3/4 of a year, halfway to 0 would be -3/8?

Can you tell I teach math?

that’s so cool that the baby can taste what you’re eating!

Congrats…the halfway mark is huge! :) Hope your doc appointment went well!! I only have 6 weeks left and sometimes it still catches me off guard when strangers ask when I am due or other preggo related questions. Then I remember oh yes, I look seriously huge now. lol

So funny that you posted this video! I was in my cafeteria at work the other morning and this song was on the radio. Inevitably, it was stuck in my head all day long, but I didn’t mind! :) And you’re such a cute pregnant woman! I love it! Congrats on being halfway done!

I’m so glad you said that about veggies because I always wondered but obviously haven’t done the research yet.

And I’m sure this sounds lame, but I am so afraid to ask a woman if she’s pregnant. Our neighbor is so obviously pregnant and it took me forever to get up the nerve to make small talk about it. I’m so afraid of offending someone.
